The results of an experimental investigation on the characteristics of compaction and compressive strength of polypropylene fiber reinforced soil are presented in this paper. This study has been performed to obtain the physical properties of PFRS(polypropylene fiber reinforced soil) such as strain-stress relationships, OMC(optimum moisture contents) and ${\gamma}$dmax (maximum dry unit weight), with four different contents (i.e., 0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5% and 1.0% weights ) of mono-filament and fibrillated polypropylene fibers. From the compaction test results, it is found that OMC increased with the contents ratio of fiber, but ${\gamma}$dmax decreased. It means that the improvement of the workability and the reduction of the weight of embankment structures by the asddtion of the polypropylene fiber. And, from the compression test results, it is found that the additon of the polypropylene fiber remarkably improved the compressive strength of PFRS. And it was observed in the viewpoint of strength that the fibrillated polypropylene fiber reinforced soil is more effective than the mono-filament polypropylene fiber reinforced soil.

The purpose of this experimental research is to evaluate the workability and strength properties of hybrid fiber reinforced concrete containing amorphous steel fiber and organic fiber. For this purpose, the hybrid fiber reinforced concrete containing amorphous steel fiber(ASF) with polyamide(PA) and polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) fiber, respectively were made according to their total volume fraction of 0.5% for water-binder ratio of 33%, and then the characteristics such as the workability, compressive strength, and flexural strength of those were investigated. It was observed from the test results that the workability and compressive strength at 7 and 28 days were decreased and the flexural strength at 7 and 28 days was increased with increasing ASF and decreasing organic fiber.

In this study, to prevent the nonhomogeneity of fiber orientation during the molding of GFRP composites, GFRP prepreg was fabricated using roving fiber and polypropylene resin. Analyses on the degree of impregnation, tensile strength, and microstructure were conducted on the fabricated prepregs. A lower pulling speed, higher resin temperature, and longer die length showed a greater degree of impregnation of the prepreg. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) micrograph showed, a homogeneous fiber orientation. As a result, fundamental techniques for improved productivity were suggested for the manufacturing field.

By incorporating a polarization-diversity loop configuration, we have demonstrated the inline switching of transmission and reflection spectra of one of two short-period fiber gratings (SPFGs) with different resonance wavelengths without reconfiguring the filter structure. The proposed filtering apparatus consists of a fiber-pigtailed polarization beam splitter, two SPFGs, and three quarter-wave plates (QWPs). The proposed filter can independently choose the transmission or reflection spectrum of each SPFG through the appropriate adjustment of the orientation angles of the QWPs within the filter without additional optical switches and couplers. The average insertion loss, band rejection ratio, and side-mode suppression ratio of the fabricated filter were measured as ~4.59, ~17.88, and ~19.67dB, respectively.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the compressive behavior and characteristics of amorphous metallic fiber-reinforced concrete (AMFRC). Compressive tests were carried out for two primary parameters: fiber volume fractions ($V_f$) of 0, 0.3, 0.6 and 0.8 %; and design compressive strengths of 27, 35, and 50 MPa at the age of 28 days. Test results indicated that the addition of amorphous metallic fibers in concrete mixture enhances the toughness, strain corresponding to peak stress, and Poisson's ratio at high stress level, while the compressive strength at the 28-th day is less affected and the modulus of elasticity is reduced. Based on the experimental results, prediction equations were proposed for the modulus of elasticity and strain at peak stress as functions of fiber volume fraction and concrete compressive strength. In addition, an analytical model representing the entire stress-strain relationship of AMFRC in compression was proposed and validated with test results for each concrete mix. The comparison showed that the proposed modeling approach can properly simulate the entire stress-strain relationship of AMFRC as well as the primary mechanical properties in compression including the modulus of elasticity and strain at peak stress.

The family of unidirectional continuous fiber reinforced polymeric composites are currently used in automotive bumper beams and load floors. The material properties and mechanical characteristics of the compression molded parts are determined by the curing behavior, fiber orientation and formation of knit lines, which are in turn determined by the mold filling parameters. In this paper, a new model is presented which can be used to predict the 3-dimensional flow under consideration of the slip of mold-composites and anisotropic viscosity of composites during compression molding of unidirectional fiber reinforced thermoplastics for isothermal state. The composites is treated as an incompressible Newtonian fluid. The effects of longitudinal/transverse viscosity ratio A and slip parameter $\alpha$ on the buldging phenomenon and mold filling patterns are also discussed.

This study reviewed various current methods of evaluating the toughness of steel fiber reinforced concrete specimens and criticized the use of various multiples of first-crack deflection to define toughness indices. The load-CMOD curve to determine toughness, instead of load-deflection curve, was used. The notched steel fiber reinforced concrete specimens With different water/cement ratio(0 35, 0.40, 0.45, 0 50) and fiber volume content(0.0%, 0 5%, 1 0%, 1.5%) were tested under third point bending.
Aluminum alloy matrix composites reinforced with various amounts of $Al_2O_3$ short fibers have been produced by rheo-compocasting accompanied by hot pressing. When composites reinforced with fibers are produced by rheo-compocasting, S-L process is the most effective method for homogeneous dispersion of fibers. A sound composites with the improved orientation(3 dimension${\rightarrow}$2 dimension) of the fibers and increased volume fraction of them have been fabricated through the hot pressing of the casted composites. Fibers are broken down when rheo-compocasting, hot pressing, and $T_6$ treating. Among them fibers are broken down most heavily in the hot pressing. And even in the case of the composite reinforced with 30 vol% fibers, which showed the hardest fiber break down, aspect ratio(11.6) is higher than critical aspect ratio(10.7). The fiber strengthening effect in the composites has showed upto 573K. As the test temperature increases to the range of 573K, the effect has been higher. The fracture of composites is controlled by fiber from room temperature to 473K, but the fracture of composites is controlled by interface between fiber and matrix alloy above 473K.
Sisal fiber, an agricultural resource abundantly available in china, has been used as raw material to prepare activated carbon with high surface area and huge pore volume by chemical activation with zinc chloride. The orthogonal test was designed to investigate the influence of zinc chloride concentration, impregnation ratio, activation temperature and activation time on preparation of activated carbon. Scanning electron micrograph, Thermo-gravimetric, $N_2$-adsorption isotherm, mathematical models such as t-plot, H-K equation, D-R equation and BJH methods were used to characterize the properties of the prepared carbons and the activation mechanism was discussed. The results showed that $ZnCl_2$ changed the pyrolysis process of sisal fiber. Characteristics of activated carbon are: BET surface area was $1628m^2/g$, total pore volume was $1.316m^3/g$ and ratio of mesopore volume to total pore volume up to 94.3%. These results suggest that sisal fiber is an attractive source to prepare mesoporous high-capacity activated carbon by chemical activation with zinc chloride.
Shape memory alloy has been used to improve the tensile strength of composite by the occurrence of compressive residual stress in matrix using its shape memory effect. In order to fabricate shape memory alloy composite, TiNi alloy fiber and Al2024 sheets were used as reinforcing material and matrix, respectively. In this study, TiNi/Al2024 shape memory alloy composite was made by using hot press method. In order to investigate bonding condition between TiNi reinforcement and Al matrix, the micro-structure of interface was observed by using optical microscope and diffusion layer of interface was measured by using Electron Probe Micro Analyser. And the mechanical properties of composite with three parameters(volume fraction of fiber, cold rolling amount and test temperature) were obtained by tensile test. The most optimum bonding condition for fabrication the TiNi/Al2024 composite material was obtained as holding for 30min. under the pressure of 60MPa at 793K. The strength of composite material increased considerably with the volume fraction of fiber up to 7.0%. And the tensile strength of this composite increased with the reduction ratio and it also depends on the volume fraction of fiber.
