  • Optical link design technique for compensating of distorted 40 Gbps ${\times}$ 24 channels WDM signals is researched. The considered optical link consists of optical phase conjugator (OPC) placed at 100 km and 900 km, which are non-midway of total transmission distance, and dispersion management (DM). It is confirmed that optimal net residual dispersions (NRD) are 800 ps/nm and 900 ps/nm when OPC placed at 100 km and 900 km, respectively.

  • Because of rapid technological advancements, increased data rate support has become the key criterion for future communication medium selection. Multimode optical fibers and multicore optical fibers are well matched to high data rate throughput requirements because of their tendency to support multiple modes through one core at a time, which results in higher data rates. Using the numerical mode solver OptiFiber, we have designed a concentric core fiber by investigating certain design parameters, namely core diameter (µm), wavelength (nm), and refractive index profile, and as a result, the number of channels, material losses, bending losses, polarization mode dispersion, and the effective nonlinear refractive index have been determined. Space division multiplexing is a promising future technology that uses few-mode fibers in parallel to form a multicore fiber. The experimental tests are conducted using the standard second window wavelength of 1,550 nm and simulated results are presented.

  • In this paper, we report the experimental results of a hybrid wideband fiber amplifier. The amplifying medium is a concatenated hybrid fiber consisting of Er-doped fiber (EDF) and dispersion compensating fiber (DCF). The gain mechanisms are based on stimulated emission in the EDF and stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in the DCF. Since we simultaneously use optical amplification by the two processes, the gain bandwidth is easily expanded over 105 nm by a two-tone pumping scheme. Using an experimental setup constructed with a hybrid structure of EDF-DCF-EDF, we analyzed the spectral behavior of amplified spontaneous emission for pumping powers. We achieved an optical gain of over 20 dB in the wavelength range from 1,500 to 1,600 nm under optimized pumping conditions to make the spectral gain shape flat.

  • In this study, it evaluate the impact resistance of UHPC by repeated impact. smooth steel fiber and polyvinyl alcohol fiber were reinforced in UHPC respectively. Overall, the impact resistance of the specimens reinforced with 0.4vol.% PVA fiber was high, and the crater diameter was small in specimens using 13mm fiber. When 19 mm steel fiber is used, the fracture depth is small due to the increase of macro crack resistance compared with other specimens. On the other hand, in the case of the fracture area, it is considered that the use of the fiber of 13 mm causes an increase in the stress dispersion effect to occur small.

  • Cylindrical dry forming mould was developed to carry out a feasibility study of dry forming of papers. The effect of disintegration, forming, humidification and pressing on dry formed papers was examined. Dry disintegrated fibers showed the similar fiber length distribution to wet disintegrated fibers, but they showed distorsion and damaged appearance on the surface. Process parameters required to form a uniform fiber pad was investigated. A proper screening and air dispersion method was selected that gives proper formation. Humidification and pressing conditions were examined to get a good dry formed papers in dry forming. Results showed that dry forming method can be used to make a sheets with reasonable formation and properties.

  • In this paper, we present theoretical designs for a beam steering phased array antenna that uses a true time delay optical feeder. A variable true time delay is achieved by employing one tunable laser source and high dispersion fibers with different length. The wavelength tunable optical carrier propagation in a high-dipersion fiber realizes a true time delay, with the steering direction set by a single voltage controlling the wavelength. Beamsteering of a phased array antenna is obtained by controlling the tunable laser source. An employment of a high dispersion fiber response shows wide-band operation of beem steering antenna system.

  • We experimentally measured the dependence of FWM efficiency on channel spacing for G.652, G.653, G.655 optical fiber with various dispersion values and compared the results with analytical results. Also, we investigated the dependence of XPM efficiency on channel spacing and dispersion in pump-probe experimental configuration.

  • Anionic water dispersible copolyesters were synthesized and characterized. Viscosity of the copolyester is lower than that of routine acrylic water dispersible polymers. Adhesive force of the copolyester was much higher than that of water dispersible acrylic polymers. Particle size of the copolyesters in water decreased with the increase of DMS or DEG feed ratio. With the conclusive study of the data of particle size and potential, it was found that the dispersion stability of copolyesters in water increased with the increase of DMS or DEG feed ratio. Judging from the results of potential and particle size of copolyesters, there seems to be competition between two dispersion stability factors, i.e. electrostatic stabilization and steric stabilization and as a result, morphological change of particles occurrs. Tg decreased with the increase of DEG molar feed ratio or oil contents.

  • The characteristics of dispersion compensation in uniform fiber grating is studied according to grating length, the refractive index modulation depth, and Gaussian window parameter(G). A 50cm-long uniform grating apodized by Gaussian function(G=10) with bandwidth of ${\sim}0.8nm$ and small noise is designed.
