  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of application levels of food waste compost andmineral nitrogen in 3 cuttings per annurn on the nutritive value and nutrient yields of orchardgrass (Dactylisglomerata L.). Annual food waste compost (FWC) and mineral nitrogen were applied at levels of 0, 10, 20,40 and 60 ton ha-', and 0, 90, 180 and 270 kg ha-', respectively. The contents of crude protein (CP, %) oforchardgrass were significantly higher at the application levels of 40 ton ha-' yr-' by FWC than those atapplication levels of 0 ton ha-' yr-' (p<0.05), the contents of neutral detergent fiber (NDF, %), acid detergentfiber (ADF, %) and hemicellulose were also higher in FWC applied plots, except for the FWC levels of 10and 60 ton ha-' yr-'. The contents of total digestible nutrient (TDN, %) and relative feed value (RFV) oforchardgrass were significantly higher at FWC levels of 10 and 60 ton ha-' yr-' than at levels of 0 ton ha"yr-'. Annual yields of CP and TDN were increased with increase the FWC levels. The highest contents ofCP of orchardgrass were obtained at 1st cut, NDF and ADF at 2nd cut. As the mineral nitrogen fertilizationwas increased, the contents of CP, NDF, ADF and hemicellulose of orchardgrass were significantly increased, but TDN and RFV were decreased. .Annual yields of CP and TDN of orchardgrass were significantlyincreased with increase the mineral nitrogen fertilization.(Key words : Food waste compost, Mineral nitrogen, Crude protein, Neutral detergent fiber, Acid detergentfiber)rgent fiber, Acid detergent fiber)

  • In this study, dietary fiber contents in cereals and pulses were determined by Mongeau-Brassard method to compare those to the AOAC officied method. The average total dietary fiber (TDF) contents by AOAC official method were 3% for cereals and 21% for pulses. The average ratios of soluble dietary fiber contents to TDF contents were 40% for cereals and 43% for pulses. The differences between TDF values (dry matter basis) by two methods were 0.1%-1.0% for cereals and 1.0-7.0% for pulses. The differences between two methods were caused by residual protein in fiber by Mongeau-Brassard method and by residual starch in fiber by AOAC official method. TDF\\error boundary values by Mongeau-Brassard method were little higher than those by AOAC official method. But seven foods except highly milled rice, brown rice and mungbean were F/Fc>1. Therefore, Mongeau-Brassard method was evaluated as precise as AOAC official method.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the supplementary effects of Suwon 464, which has over two times of dietary fiber content compared with normal rice (Ilpum), on blood glucose in diabetic mice. We supplied 5 kinds of experimental diets (corn starch diet as a control (CO), Ilpum polished rice diet (IP), Ilpum brown rice diet (IB), polished rice diet (SP) and brown rice diet (SB) of Suwon 464) to diabetic mice for 8 weeks, after analyzing dietary fiber contents of 5 experimental diets. Diet intake, body weight and contents of blood glucose, hemoglobin $A_{lc}$ and insulin were measured. The dietary fiber contents in CO, IP, IB, SP, and SB diets were 1.0, 1.2, l.4, l.4, and 2.0% respectively. Body weight was lower in SB group than the other groups though there was no significant difference in diet intake among experimental groups. The concentration of blood glucose in diabetic mice was lower in SB group than the other groups during the supplementary period of experimental diets. The hemoglobin Ale and serum insulin levels were lower in SP and SB groups. These results suggested that the brown rice of Suwon 464 with high dietary fiber can control diabetes in diabetic mice by reducing the blood glucose and hemoglobin Ale. • The conditions to which pulp fibers are exposed during paper production, converting, storage, use, and recycling can induce various changes in fiber morphology, surface characteristics, and suitability for paper production by recycled fibers. Most of those changes can be described by hornification. Paper has highly hygroscopic properties which affect dimensional change by relative humidity variation of surrounding condition. The purpose of this study was to investigate the dimensional stability, moisture contents and dip elongation of handsheets at different relative humidity conditions of recycled kraft pulp and BCTMP. By using recycled fibers, dimensional stability was increased because hygroscopic properties of fibers decreased with repeated recycling treatment. Dip elongation of recycled pulp was higher than that of virgin pulp because of its weak fiber-to-fiber bonding. By recycling pulp, the relative bonded area was decreased because fiber could not swell more than virgin pulp. Dimensional stability largely depended on the equilibrium moisture contents of paper, the fiber-to-fiber bonding strength, and the relative bonded area.

  • In this study, an experiment in the field was performed to analyze the variations of rebound ratios of SFRS with silica fume after fabricating the panels and placing the plain concrete of simulting a base rock with thickness 7cm. And the experimental parameters which are the reinforcing methods(steel fiber, wire mesh), steel fiber contents(0.0%, 0.5%, 0.75%, 1.0%), silica fume contents(0.0%, 10.0%), and the three parts(lower, middle, upper part) were chosen. According to the results of the lower part in this test, the larger the fiber contents are in case of steel fiber reinforced shotcrete, the less the rebound ratios are within the range of 20~35%, compared to the wire-mesh reinforced shotcrete with silica fume content of 10%, and these results are true of the middle and upper part, respectively. In addition, the four-stage phenomena of the rebound of SFRS were estimated on the base of a series of the test results.

  • This study was conducted to survey the end-use properties of the commercial men's socks. Date were obtained from 16 samples of men's socks gathered from department store, markets, specialty chain and variety store in street. Stretchness, performance of rib top, fiber contents, strength (abrasion and bursting), pilling properties and color fastness of socks tested in this study were as follows. 1. Stretchness of socks was sufficient but elongation of rib top was insufficient, therefore these facts are getting to become problem to consumers. 2. Fiber contents of samples were not in accord with the labelled item and criteria of Textile Fiber Product Identification Act. 3. Strength and pilling properties were vaious in according to fiber contents of socks. Socks blended of synthetic fibers were superior to that pure natural fibers in strength but not in pilling. 4. Color fastness to perspiration and rubbing were sufficient on the whole, but fastness to laundering in stain were very insufficient.

  • In this thesis, the fatigue tests were performed on a series of SFRC (steel fiber reinforced concrete)to investigate the flexural tensile behavior of SFRC varying with the steel fiber contents and the steel fiber aspect ratios. Beam specimens of 10$\times$10$\times$60cm are used. the specimen series are classified according to the steel fiber contents varying 0.5. 1.0, 1.5%, and to the steel fiber aspect ratios varying 60, 80, 100. The three point loading system was used in the fatigue tests. The minimum value of repeated loading was fixed at 10.0kgf and maximum value was 75% to static ultimate strength for periodically using concrete strain gages located at the lower end of the mid-span, and the stress-strain curves were drawn for each specimens, respectively. From the tests result, it was found that the larger steel fiber content and the smaller the steel fiber aspect ratio is , the tensile strain of SFRC under fatigue load proportionally increases. By the regression analysis on these results, the empirical formulae to predict the tensile strain of SFRC were suggested. In comparison of the tensile elastic modulus under fatigue load, it was also found that the larger steel fiber content and the smaller steel fiber aspect ratio is , the smaller decreasing rate of the stiffness of SFRC under fatigue load decreased.

  • In order to investigate the applicability of lyocell fiber to filter paper, papper sheets were manufactured with the addition of lyocell fibers in various length(1.5 denier: 2, 3, 4mm) and content(10, 30, 50%) and their physical characters, such as fibrilation rate, adsorption efficiency of methylene blue(MB), paper formation, and crimping ability, etc, were tested. The level of main fibrilation from lyocell fiber was higher in wet beating process than that in free beating because of the higher strength of lyocell fiber compared with wood fiber. Fibrilation could be observed at the degree of beating over 30$^{\circ}$ SR in wet beating with Valley beater. The air permeability and tear factor of the paper increased and the paper formation index decreased according to the increase of fiber length. The weak binding force of lyocell fiber in spite of its higher fiber strength, might be a limitng factor in addition of lyocell fiber to the natural wood pulp in manufacturing the paper having the needed physical properties. High contents of wood pulp decreased air permeability, the breaking length, tear factor, the bursting strength, and paper formation index in paper sheets. As the contents of lyocell increased from 10% to 100%, the adsorption efficiency of MB was elevated to 1.7-7.9 times compared with that in 100% wood pulp. But the length of lyocell fiber did not affect the MB adsorption.

  • The results of an experimental study on the manufacture and the mechanical properties of fiber reinforced fly ash$\cdot$lime$\cdot$gypsum composites are presented in this paper. 'The composites using fly ash, lime, and gypsum were prepared with various fibers (PAN-derived and Pitch-derived carbon fiber, alkali-resistance glass fiber) and a small amount of polymer emulsion-styrene butadiene rubber latex (SBR). As the test results show, the manufacturing process technology of fly ash$\cdot$lime$\cdot$gypsum composites was developed and its optimum mix proportions were successfully proposed. And the flexural strength and toughness of fiber reinforced fly ash$\cdot$lime $\cdot$gypsum composites were increased remarkably by fiber contents, but the compressive strength of the composites were influenced by the kinds fiber more than by the fiber contents. Also, the addition of a polymer emulsion to the composites decreased the bulk specific gravity, but the compressive and flexural strength, and the toughness of the composites were not influenced by it, but were considerably improved by increasing fiber contents.
