Purpose: This study was conducted to measure job stress and to explore risk factors of female workers in the retail and sales industries in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Incheon. Methods: A total of 321 participants responded to a self-administered questionnaire that included 24 items of the KOSS(Korean Occupational Stress Scale) and sociodemographic characteristics. The 240 questionnaires were collected from January to March 2007 and analyzed. Results: The mean scores of female workers' job stress in the retail and sales industries ranged in Q50~74 compared with the average scores of female Koreans. The level of job insecurity was significantly high, and ranged in Q75~. However, the level of insufficient job control ranged in Q~24. Multiple regression analysis was used to explain the risk factors of female workers: monthly salary and insufficient sleep were of statistical significance. Conclusion: High level of job stress suggested that appropriate stress management programs be implemented for female workers in the retail and sales industries.

Objectives: This paper aimed to provide an in-depth analysis of the factors influencing the dietary habits of male and female workers at a facility in Gwangju and their awareness of the same. Methods: A total of 32 workers were divided into eight groups based on work type, gender, and age, and focus group interviews (FGIs) were conducted. The FGIs included cognitive, behavioral, and environmental questionnaires based on dietary habits and the social cognitive theory. The interviews were analyzed by subject and sub-subject using audio recordings and transcriptions. Results: Male workers in the concerned company favored meat while female workers preferred vegetables, yet by and large, the preferences were irregular. Male workers living alone frequently ate ready meals and female workers often skipped meals. An analysis of the factors influencing the study subjects' dietary habits from the cognitive, behavioral, and environmental perspectives showed that the main factors negatively affecting their dietary habits were shiftwork, living alone, and drinking. Workers were unaware of these factors and their poor eating habits. Instead, male workers complained of poor cooking skills, while female workers complained of loneliness. Workers thus appeared to need the support of nutrition education and a counseling assistant to cope with this situation. Conclusions: The study identified the fact that the absence of nutrition education left the workers unaware of their poor eating habits. The workers would need counseling and support to help them build healthy dietary habits. It would also be necessary to focus on raising the workers' cognitive awareness of dietary habits and enhancing their behavioral ability to cope with bad eating habits through nutrition education that reflects the reality of their situation.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing smoking cessation in female workers. Methods: This study was secondary analysis based on the data from the Community Health Survey, 2014 with the subjects of 2,007 female workers. The data were analyzed using $x^2$ test and multiple logistic regression. Results: 29.2% of female workers had the intention to quit smoking. The subjects with office jobs showed higher smoking cessation intention than non-office jobs. Smoking cessation intention was influenced by the amount of smoking per day, previous attempts to quit smoking, sleeping time, the presence of chronic disease, the presence of depressive symptoms, weight control behavior and subjective body images. Conclusion: These findings show that tailored interventions should be provided depending on the types of occupations in order to increase smoking cessation in female workers. In addition, smoking cessation programs need to consider not only the smoking related factors but also physical and psychological health including chronic disease, weight, and depression.
This paper investigates the relationship between the occupational gender wage gap and the proportion of high wage earning female workers in Korea. The main idea is that an increase in the number of high wage earning female workers in the workplace could lead to a decrease in the gender wage gap by eradicating the prejudice or reducing the statistical discrimination on female workers. We constructed a panel dataset by using the raw data from the Korean Survey Report on Labor Conditions by Employment between 2009 and 2016. The result shows that greater presences of high wage earning female workers in male dominant occupations have statistically significant negative impacts on residual gender earning dispersion.
Present study aims to describe who are the non-regular female workers in South Korea. The dominant form of employment of Korean female non-regular workers is characterized by instable contract, low wage, long-time work and exclusion from the state and occupational welfare. Also, non-regular female workers are not homeogenous but there are various groups of women among female non-regular workers including young part-time workers, high educational middle class contract professionals, particular contract workers such as home-schooling teachers. However, it would worth noting that over 40s, low-educational, low income, breadwinning women who are working in sales, service, and simple handy job are most likely to become non-regular female workers in South Korea. Those women are the major group among non-regular female workers. The public assistance (in cash) for non-regular workers are necessarily needed for them at this point in South Korea.
Purpose: In Korea, the proportion of female workers among occupational injury is steadily increasing. The purpose of this study was to identify the workplace risk factors that threaten the safety and health of the female workers. Methods: Qualitative study was conducted, using focus group interview. Data were collected from five focus groups of eighteen female workers who were working in the manufacturing, health service, and educational service industries. Results: The seven themes of occupational safety and health risks of women workers are as follows: 1) Workplace with various risks; 2) Sliding, falling, burning, and cutting accidents; 3) Chronically lasting musculoskeletal symptoms; 4) Chemicals that may be harmful to workers; 5) Unprotected infectious disease; 6) Psychological safety accidents(Relationship conflict and emotional labor); 7) Loud, hot, stuffy, scary, and tired. Conclusion: The Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) Act should be rearranged gender sensitively and women's participation in the OSH decision-making process should be guaranteed. OSH education should be properly implemented in the field, and support should be provided for women workers in small businesses. A supportive organizational culture for marriage, pregnancy and childbirth should be established, and the working environment should be provided safely, taking into account gender differences.

PURPOSE: This study examined the differences between male and female workers by investigating the various factors that affected the workers' abilities to return to work according to the International Classification of Functioning standards. METHODS: We analyzed the personal factor, environmental factor, work performance and participation factor related to ICF according to worker's gender. For this purpose data from the third Worker's Compensation Insurance panel survey conducted by the Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service were analyzed. In order to verify the research model, we used frequency analysis, cross analysis to compare the differences between male and female workers according to personal, environmental, work performance, and participation factors and hierarchical regression analysis to identify significant factors affecting job performance. RESULTS: The results, indicate that the level of education, license status, working period, socioeconomic status and employment type of female workers were lower than those of male workers. Factors that have the greatest influence on job performance are grade of disability, status of disability, economic activity status, and instrumental activities of daily living (p<.05). CONCLUSION: It is necessary to provide socially stable employment support and social policy support without discrimination to allow disabled female workers to return to work and maintain their jobs and to study factors influencing job performance further.

The most important points this thesis has placed stress and appealed, are as follows : 1. The scope and variety of women workers' jobs should be broadened. 2. Opportunity for promotion should be guaranteed for women workers based upon the ability and capacity of individual woman worker. 3. Equal wage principle between men and women workers, should be established based upon the idea that men and women should be equal. 4. The age limit or marriage limit of employment applied only to female workers, should be abrogated. 5.
