공과대학 여대생을 위한 여대생커리어개발센터 프로그램 개선방안 연구 (A Study on the Improvement Method of Career Development Center Program for Female Students of Engineering College)

  • 본 연구는 공과대학 여대생의 진로 및 취업 준비 현황을 조사하고 이를 지원할 수 있는 여대생커리어개발센터 프로그램의 개선안을 제안하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 10개의 4년제 대학교에서 167명의 공과대학 여대생을 대상으로 설문을 실시하였다. 대표적 연구결과로 첫째, 목표를 설정한 여대생은 절반 이하 수준으로 나타났다. 진로효능감은 평균 수준이었으며, 전공흥미도는 다소 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 전공과 관련된 분야로 진출하기 희망하는 정도는 평균 수준을 보였다. 두 번째로 취업을 위해 가장 필요한 능력이자 부족한 능력으로는 전공활용능력을 꼽았다. 세 번째, 진로 및 취업을 위한 학교의 지원에 대해서는 만족도가 2.81로 낮은 수준으로 나타났으며, 여대생커리어개발센터 프로그램에 대해서는 면접준비 프로그램에 대한 만족도가 가장 높았다. 참여를 희망하는 프로그램에 대해서는 맞춤형 직장 체험 프로그램을 가장 희망하는 것으로 나타났다. 연구결과에 따라 여대생커리어개발센터의 프로그램 개선방안을 제안하였다.

공학계열 남녀 졸업생의 조사를 통해 본 교과과정 내의 활동의 취업 기여 (Contribution of Curricula and Extra-Curricular Activities on Successful Employment Derived from an Engineering Graduates Survey)

  • This study investigated various attributes that contributed to successful employment in order to develop employment support programs, especially for female engineering students. We surveyed engineering students who graduated between 2006 and 2011. The 401 employed graduates participated in an online survey. The surveys inquired about their attachment towards their major, participation in various academic and non-academic activities, and their participation's contribution to their successful employment. In regards to their majors, women, in general, had lower levels of satisfaction, confidence, attachment, and motivation to succeed in their fields when compared to their male counterparts. These results show that engineering colleges still need to work on empowering female engineering students to gain confidence in their engineering major and attachment. The graduate school experience was highly rated by both men and women, whereas double majors exhibited somewhat lower scores. Among academic activities, part-time work experience and major-related internships were rated as the most helpful, and among extracurricular activities, study-abroad for language training and participation in student council or clubs received high scores. There was little difference between men and women in study-abroad participation, and women participated more actively in student councils. However, women had much less major-related work experience, reaffirming that colleges need to expand internship and field experience programs for female students.

공대 여학생의 남자교수 상담에 대한 만족도와 요구도 (Satisfaction and Needs of Female Students in Engineering with Counseling Men Professors)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the satisfaction and needs of female students in Engineering with counseling male professor. Subjects of this study were 92 female students in Engineering from a university in K city. Results of survey showed that women students in Engineering were most satisfied with the usefulness of counseling and next with male professor's attitude as counselor. Counseling needs of female students in Engineering was highest on receiving concrete information on finding a job from counseling and next to it on understanding women students. Results of focus group interview and suggestions for the study in the future were presented respectively.

공학교육에서 학생 생성 질문 교수학습방법을 적용한 수업 사례연구 (A Case Study of Student Generation Questioning Strategy on Engineering Education)

  • The purposes of this study are to describe the case of student generation questioning strategy on engineering education and to find advantages of applying this strategy and any suggestions of this strategy for the improvement. First of all, Questioning Sheet, the methods of applying the sheet and evaluation were developed, And then instructional model for using this strategy was designed which is with this sheet students are encouraged to ask questions at the beginning and the end of class. K class is for the sophomore of Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering in K University. 40 students were visited. Among them 8 was female student and 32 was male students. Only 20 students were used the questioning sheet and asked the questions. The rest of students did not use the questioning sheet. And high achievement students were more asked questions than low achievement students. At the end of the semester, the attitude and the satisfaction of the class were investigated. Achievements of students were measured also. Students of generating questions are more achieved and more satisfied. Students who generated questions have more positive attitude for the study.

공과대학 여학생의 전공만족과 심리적 안녕감과의 관계 탐색 (Exploring the Relationships between Major Satisfaction and Psychological Well-being of Female Engineering Students)

  • This research aims to examine the relationship between major satisfaction and psychological well-being of female engineering students. To achieve this goal, first, differences in major satisfaction and psychological well-being among engineering students were examined. Second, differences in major satisfaction and psychological well-being among female undergraduate students were investigated. In addition, the effects of psychological well-being, as perceived by undergraduate students by gender and major, on major satisfaction were explored. A total of three hundred and forty-nine (349) undergraduate students from two universities in Korea responded to survey based on a two-variables scale. The findings were that, firstly, male engineering students scored higher in two variables including their most sub-factors, and that gender differences in relation satisfaction as well as positive relationship with others, autonomy, and environmental mastery were statistically significant. Secondly, female engineering students scored higher in major satisfaction and several sub-factors of two variables, and that major differences in major satisfaction (total), social perception satisfaction, and autonomy - a sub-factor of psychological well-being - were statistically significant. Thirdly, a positive correlation among major satisfaction and psychological well-being was identified. Finally, psychological well-being could explain about 19% of major satisfaction. The practical implications of these findings are discussed herein, with attention on education for promotion of major satisfaction.

Investigation and Analysis of Mathematics Application Ability of Student of Senior One

  • Students' mathematics application ability is a hot spot which mathematics education pays attention. So, I have carried on the test of mathematics application and the questionnaire survey to student of Senior One of the two middle schools. Through the test and the investigation, I discover that the level of the students' mathematics application ability is not high. To the simple application question, the difference of the male and the female is not big, but to the difficult application question, the male and the female has the remarkable difference. The students' lack of flexible and the original cognition monitoring ability in mathematics application process are afraid of studying mathematics application since childhood and lack of the training of this aspect. They thought mathematics foundation and reading understood ability is the key of mathematics application. Through analysis result of investigation, this paper proposed the way to raise mathematics application ability of students.

공대 여학생의 전공 관련 심리적 특성의 탐색 (Examination of Psychological Correlates of Woman Engineering Students)

  • 국내 공과대학 여자 졸업생의 전공분야 진출이 낮은 원인을 탐색하기 위하여 공과대학 여학생의 전공진로 장벽과 관련된 심리적 특성을 파악하고 이를 남학생과 비교하였다. 전국 8개 대학 1,968명의 남 여학생을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 전공에 대한 가치와 기대, 열망, 만족도 및 자기 효능감을 조사하였고 이러한 심리적 특성들이 대학 경험을 통해 어떻게 변화하는지를 조사하기 위하여 학년에 따라 그 수준을 비교하였다. 그 결과 전공에 대한 가치에 대해서는 남 여 학생간의 뚜렷한 성차가 발견되지 않았으나 기대, 열망, 만족도 및 자기 효능감 등을 비롯한 대부분의 전공 관련 심리적 특성에서 여학생들이 남학생들에 비해 낮음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 남학생들의 경우 전공에 대한 기대, 열망, 만족도, 자기효능감 등이 공과대학 경험과 교육을 통해, 학년이 증가 할수록 일관되게 증가하는 반면 여학생들의 경우 거의 변화하지 않거나 오히려 낮아지는 경향을 보였다. 따라서 이와 같은 공대 여학생들의 심리적 특성을 개선하기 위한 교육 환경 개선 노력이 제안되었다.

공대 여학생 진로장벽과 관련된 공대 교수의 성인지적 태도 탐색 (Examination of Gender-Related Attitudes of Engineering Professors as a Correlate for Career Barrier of Female Engineering Students)

  • 국내 공대 여학생의 전공 진로 장벽과 관련된 사회 환경적 요인을 탐색하기 위하여 공대 교수들의 성인지 인식 및 행동을 파악하고 여학생 비율이 높은 타 전공 교수와 비교하였다. 220명의 교수(공대 169명, 비공대 51명) 설문조사 결과 공대 비공대 교수들 모두 여학생들이 학업과 관련된 능력보다는 모험정신, 리더십, 능동성, 자신감 등과 같은 소프트 스킬이 부족하다고 답변하였다. 여학생의 전공 분야 진출 가능성에 대해서는 공대 교수들이 비 공대 교수 보다 높은 수준의 기대를 나타냈으나 직장에서의 핵심 업무 담당, 리더십 발휘 가능성에 대해서는 더 낮은 수준의 기대치를 보였다. 공대 교수들의 수업 관련 성인지 행동 수준은 비 공대 교수보다 낮았으며 여학생들이 실제 인식하는 수준보다 자신의 성인지적 행동 수준을 더 높게 평가하였다. 또한 여학생의 전공 분야 취업 확대를 위한 교육 강화 필요성에 대해 비 공대 교수보다 낮게 인식하고 있었으며 참여 의지도 낮은 것으로 나타 났다. 이러한 결과를 통해 공대 여학생 교육 강화를 위해서는 공대 교수들의 여학생에 대한 인식 제고를 위한 활동이 선행되어야 함을 확인할 수 있었다.

Does "Women Friendliness" Matter in STEM Education?: Differential Effects of High-Impact Practices on Career Aspiration of STEM College Students by Gender

  • This study examined the differential effects of High-Impact Practices(HIPs) on the career aspiration of STEM college students by gender. Through the theoretical lens of Social Cognitive Career Theory(SCCT), a two-level model analysis was conducted. A sample of 2,101 third- and fourth-year undergraduate students majoring in STEM at 38 universities, which had been collected from the National Survey on College Student Experiences and Learning Outcomes funded by the Korea Research Foundation, was used. This study found that the three HIP domains(learning with peers, faculty support, content relevancy) had different influences depending on gender. These findings suggest that HIPs can benefit the development of female students' career aspiration and have gender-differential effects on students in STEM majors. Based on those findings, this study also deduced implications about the roles of faculty members and higher-education institutions that might foster the retention of women in STEM.

A Study on the Improvement of Students Academic Ability

  • Based on a survey conducted on 125 students in the Department of Computer Engineering at K University, the following results were obtained by analyzing ways to improve academic ability. Male students should pay more attention to grade points management than female students before completing their military service. Students with high self-assessed academic ability score higher than students with low self-assessed academic ability. As long as students don't spend too much time, a student's part-time job is not an obstacle to their study. Compared to Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon regions, students from Gangwon and other regions should pay special attention to some pre-classes to understand regular university lectures. In undergraduate education, a student's major aptitude is not a big problem. In order to change major, students need counseling about their major's aptitude only at the beginning semester. In order to get good grades, the achievement of the will to study is more important than the will to study itself. Professors should encourage students to review what they have learned in class after class and always assure students sincerity in their studies through the counseling process.
