This study was conducted to assess the information of food safety by college students according to mass-media reports. To accomplish this, a survey was conducted to investigate the preference and reliability, of primary mass-media sources of BSE information, and BSE-related knowledge of college students. The most common sources of media by male and female students were terrestrial television(60%), the internet(21%) and newspapers(11%) and terrestrial television(60%), newspapers (18%) and the internet(17%), respectively. The reliability of media of male students were terrestrial television(53%) and the internet(40%), while for female students these values were terrestrial television(55%) and internet(37%), respectively. In the case of male students, the primary sources of information regarding BSE were terrestrial television(54%) and the internet(38%), but for female students the primary sources were terrestrial television(57%) and the internet(37%). Both male and female students were found to have less knowledge regarding prions, SRM, and MM type genes associated with BSE when compared to the other factors associated with this disease. In addition, the important determining factors for the food purchase of male and female students both were the orders of taste, hygiene, price. The preferences for meats and the beef-alternative meats of male and female students were the orders of pork, chicken. Based on these results, greater efforts should be made to provide meaningful information regarding the safe production and distribution of meats.
The researcher worked with 1001 middle and high school students so as to inquire into the family-related variables affecting the adolescents' school maladjustment from the results of the average, standard deviation and multiple regression analysis. The followings were the major findings. 1. The study activity was the first thing that the subjects did not adjust among their school life and the relationship with teacher, with opposite-sex friends, the rule-keeping and the friendship were the next in the order. 2. The researches on family-related variables affecting the school maladjustment were performed by gender (male / female), gender/school(male and middle / male and high / female and middle / female and high), school(middle / high) and system(academic / vocational). The most influential variables were the structural environment one in case of male students and male and middle school students; the parent-relationship one in case of female students, female and middle school students, female and high school students, middle school and vocational high school students; and the physical environment one in case of high school students, male and high school students and academic high school students.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to identify risk behavior related to the school accident between male and female elementary school students. Methods: 838 School accident data provided by Seoul School Safety Council were analyzed by gender. Based on the results above, survey questionnaires on characteristics of school accident were developed. Self-reported data were collected from a sample population of 433 students in grade 5 to 6 students attending 4 elementary schools in Seoul. Results: The students who answered they experienced the accident in school for the past 1 year, accounts 60.5% of male and 39.5% of females students, which has statistically significant difference. The male's cases happened most around corridor/door, while female's cases happened most in the playground/gymnasium. As for the accident risk behavior, male students had the risk behavior by using the personal belongings/toys, while the female students had much risk behavior related to physical facility/playground. When classifying the characteristics of risk behaviors according to the accident causes, male students showed higher score in the accident risk behaviors related to play/fight than in those of the female students(p<0.05). Conclusions: Health care providers should develop school safety programs by characteristics of risk behavior between male and female elementary school students.
A survey was carried out to investigate relation between life stress and nutrient intake status in female university students. It was represented that increasing trends of food intake under the stress condition and preference taste was sweet and hot in female students. The female students thought that food intake for coping with stress was produced negative results and they perceived the relation between stress and their health problem. There was a positive correlation between stress level and the change of food intake in female students statistically(p<0.01). They had higher stress in future prospect, academic problem, friend relationship, personality and family relationship. The average calorie intake of female university students was 1553.06kcal(77.65% of RDA). The intake of protein, calcium and iron were quite less than the RDA, whereas the intake of phosphate, vitamin A, $B_2$, C, niacin were more than the RDA. In changes of nutrient intake under the stress conditions, the higher stress group had decreased intake of calcium, iron, vitamin $B_1,\;B_2$, C than the lower stress group(p<0.05).

Firstly, social and cultural backgrounds and concepts of N generation, and then characteristics and influencing powers of female students were reviewed. And this study also included questionnaire surveys of 500 female students in middle and high schools located in Seoul. Data were processed using a SPSS$^+$ program and analyzed by using frequency, percentage and the $X^2$-test. The major findings run as follows: Female students have the effects of spreading their words quickly and abilities of making a decision what to buy. And they accept consuming behaviors itself as a part of cultural lives. Therefore, industries have acknowledged them as new principal consumers with a powerful influence in the market. They also play an important role in active consumer as emotional generation who has distinct personalities and prefer fashion trends, changes and innovations. They show conformities with their peer groups and they also want to identify themselves with characters or stars. The cosmetic behaviors of female students relating to demographic characteristics showed a significant relation to grades, majors, school groups and places of residence. Female students have a lot of interest and knowledge about cosmetics. And they use various cosmetic products. This study demonstrated the age for using make-up for the first time has been becoming younger more and more. Recently, female adolescents tend to use face powder, lip gloss, mascara and eye shadow. It is assumed that cosmetic purchases of female students can be considered as an impulsive aspects. However, before purchases, the proportion of students having any particular cosmetic brand in mind previously has been increasing. They take into consideration skin safety, the quality of product and color, when purchasing cosmetic products.

This study was performed to investigate the consumption of coffee beverages and energy contribution ratios of coffee beverages and accompanying snacks by college students in Deajeon City and Chungnam Province in Korea. Questionnaire survey, dietary survey, and snack survey using food record method during 3-days were carried out. As a result, we found that 86.9% of male students and 75.6% of female students consumed coffee beverages usually, with no differences between the two groups. However, the frequency of coffee beverages consumed by female students out-numbered that of male students by 1 cup a day to 1-2 cups a week (p<0.05). Furthermore, male students most likely consumed coffee beverages at schools or academies, but female students consumed them at coffee shops (p<0.01). The reasons male students gave to consume coffee beverages were for scent, taste, fatigue, and to stay awake. Similarly, the reasons female students gave to consume coffee beverages were for scent, taste, habit, and to stay awake (p<0.01). Fully 58.1% of male students and 80.0% of female students ate snacks along with coffee beverages (p<0.01). Most male students substituted a coffee beverage and accompanying snack for a regular meal once a month. Female students were doing it at most 2-3 times a month (p<0.05). The mean daily dietary energy intake of male students was 1,924 kcal/d, and of female students was 1,518 kcal/d (p<0.001), which both were below the estimated energy requirements. Male students obtained 285.6 kcal/d and female students obtained 289.5 kcal/d from coffee beverages and accompanying snacks. There was a significant different in dietary intake of energy (p<0.05), calcium, and iron (p<0.001) for each ratio of reference intake between male and female students. The students who ate larger amounts of coffee beverages and accompanying snacks consumed less dietary energy, protein, calcium, and iron, respectively (p<0.05). These results show that many students consume coffee beverages regularly and obtain large amounts of energy from coffee beverages and accompanying snacks. It also shows that student's dietary nutrient intake tends to be poorer, as he or she obtains more energy from coffee beverages and accompanying snacks. Therefore, it is critical to monitor the influence of consumption of coffee beverages and accompanying snacks on the dietary nutrient intakes and health of college students, and to provide nutrition education about the proper consumption of coffee beverages and accompanying snacks based on scientific evidence.

The purpose of this study was to examine the meaning and structure of the experience of female college students. For this purpose, 22 female college students, regardless of age, participated in the interview three times in total. Interview data were processed through the analysis and interpretation process using the phenomenological research method, Giorgi method. As a result, 34 semantic units were derived, then divided into 14 subcomponents, and then divided into 6 categories. As a result of analysis, the spiritual value of female college students was composed of "family", "friendly person", "professional person", "empathy", "reflection" and "trust". Based on the above meaning, the structure of the spiritual value of female college students can conclude that they were a continuation of life that forms a strong sense of value and empathy and trust with patience with family and friends. Based on this, intervention on spiritual well-being of female college students suggests that intervention to form values based on empathy and trust based on family and close friends is implemented.
Purpose: The study was done to investigate Food and Nutrient Intakes of female college students and define differences between teen-age groups and women in their twenties. Method: The subjects of this study were 821 female college students. They were eighteen to twenty nine years old. Nutrient intakes were measured by the Moon, S. J. Scale (1980). Data was collected from June 13 to June, 27. Data was analyzed with the SPSS program by Chi-test, t-test and Pearson's correlation coefficients. Result: Female college students' mean intake of calories, protein, fat, and carbohydrates were $1560.7{\pm}367.71kcal,\;62.0{\pm}19.03g,\;33.1{\pm}9.85g,\;and\;253.7{\pm}57.52g$ respectively. Their mean intake of calcium, phosphorus and iron were $592.9{\pm}221.82mg,\;918.2{\pm}284.24mg\;and\;13.7{\pm}4.50mg$ respectively. Intake of calories, calcium, iron and vitamine B1 were below their Percent of Recommended Intake. Nutrient intakes showed a significant difference between age groups. Teen-age female college students had more nutrient intakes than the women in their twenties. In addition, there was a difference in food consumption behaviors between the teen-age group and the twenty-something group. Conclusion: The nutrient intake of female college students changed by age. Many teen-age female college students ate breakfast well, thus their intake of calories, protein, fat, carbohydrates, minerals such as calcium, phosporus and vitamins was significantly higher than the over twenty years old students. Teen-age female college students like fruits and sugars but over twenty years college students preferred coffee. This study can be useful in directing a dietary consumption status of women to improve nutritional health.
This study was conducted to investigate weight control status and associated factors among health-related major female college students. The subjects consisted of 41 nutrition and 78 physical exercise major female college students. Nutrient intakes, biochemical index, nutrition knowledge (recognition and accuracy), interest of weight control, body satisfaction, self-recognition of health condition, self-evaluated body weight were studied. About 73% of nutrition and 79% of physical exercise major female students were in the normal range of BMI ($18.5{\sim}23$) and 2% of nutrition and 1% of physical exercise major female students were underweight, 10% of nutrition and 6% of physical exercise major female students were obese. There were no significant differences in height and weight by major but %body fat and WHR in physical exercise majors were significantly lower than nutrition major students (respectively p<0.01, p<0.05). Overall, nutrition intakes of subjects were not shown to be appropriate, especially Ca/P of subjects was shown $0.54{\sim}0.64$, fat% out of energy of subjects was shown $24.7{\sim}29.0$ and Na intake was shown above 2000mg. Recognition and accuracy of nutrition were higher than those of physical exercise majors (p<0.001). There were no significant differences in self-recognition of health condition, self-evaluated body weight, satisfaction of body shape by major and weight control attempt. But interest of weight control of attempter was higher than that of no-attempter in nutrition (p<0.05) and physical exercise major students (p<0.01). Significantly negative correlation was found in satisfaction of body and BMI, body fat mass, %bodyfat, WHR. And significantly positive correlation was found in interest of weight control and BMI, %bodyfat, WHR. It was noticeable to see that interest of weight control was positively correlated to accuracy and accuracy was negatively correlated to blood cholesterol level. Therefore, proper nutrition education for female college students is needed in order to improve their weight control-related health.
