To supply basic data for systemic nutrition education, perception of nutrition education and nutrition knowledge was investigated in elementary school students (4~6th grade) in Chungnam province. Forty-six percent of students had a normal level of interest in nutrition, and 43.8% of students had a normal level of nutrition knowledge. Male students (56.1%) and female students (43.7%) wanted nutrition education via lectures in class (p<0.001), with a significant difference based on gender. In addition, most students wanted 'cooking' as nutrition education content, with a significant difference based on gender (p<0.001). Approximately 59% of students (boys 53.7% and girls 64.6%) responded that the reason not to practice the contents of nutrition education is 'not interested' (male 44%, female 34.1%) (p<0.05). For necessity of nutrition education, 38.1% of subjects answered 'normal', and 42.8% of students responded that nutrition education is not helpful since there is no interest. On the contrary, necessity of nutrition education was recognized by 30.8% of male students and 30.8% of female students for prevention of obesity and health life with a balanced diet, respectively. Students (66%) wanted a nutrition teacher, and 33.2% of male students wanted nutrition education once a month, whereas 34.5% of female students wanted it once a week (p<0.01). And 54.8% of students responded that current frequency of nutrition education is adequate. The average score of nutrition knowledge for female students was higher than that of male students, and a higher grade received a higher score of nutrition knowledge. The level of nutrition knowledge was not relevant to the actual score of the individual. Based on this result, it is necessary to activate and expand nutrition education in elementary schools to emphasize the importance of nutrition education. Additionally, future nutrition education should be more available to practice in life as well as improvement of nutrition knowledge. Investigation into nutrition knowledge according to gender and grade is necessary for continuous and systemic nutrition education.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the sexual education program on female college students' sexual knowledge and sexual autonomy. Methods: The integrative 5-week (15 hour) sexual education program reflecting control and coping aspects of sexual autonomy was developed based on self-determination theory. 59 female students were assigned to the experimental (n=29) and the control group (n=30). Students completed the sexual knowledge and the sexual autonomy questionnaires at prior to the program, right after and 10 weeks after the completion of the program. Independent t-test were used to test the effectiveness of the program. Results: Significant group differences were found on sexual autonomy score right after and 10 weeks after the completion of the program. No significant group differences were found on sexual knowledge at any time after the program completion. Conclusion: The results indicate that the 5-week Sexual Education Program was effective in increasing female college students' sexual autonomy. Nursing professors majoring women's health nursing may contribute to improving college students' sexual autonomy by opening the sexual education program as a general elective curriculum. Strategies to improve sexual knowledge need to be considered for better effectiveness of the program.

The goal of this study was to explore the existing program of resident practice structured for female students in order to propose its restructuring for male and female students in the secondary school. A sample of 30 teachers charged a program of resident practice and 55 home economics teachers completed self report measures of resident practice program. Interviews were conducted with 20 teachers to do in-depth research. The results indicated that, consistent with some previous research, there were some problems on facilities and program contents of resident practice. However, there were almost consistent with the required contents of program for male and female students. Significant differences were found only for the program contents such as table settings, wearing a traditional clothing and arranging flowers. A qualitative research showed that resident practice was equally important for the well-being of male and female students and preparing the 21st century. Respondents proposed that the program contents should be focused on traditional propriety and etiquette for daily life. As for the accident risk behavior, male students had the risk behavior by using the personal belongings/toys, while the female students had much risk behavior related to physical facility/playground. When classifying the characteristics of risk behaviors according to the accident causes, male students showed higher score in the accident risk behaviors related to play/fight than in those of the female students(p<0.05). Conclusions: Health care providers should develop school safety programs by characteristics of risk behavior between male and female elementary school students.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of female adolescents' rejection sensitivity, impulsivity and guilt on their binge eating behavior. Questionnaires on rejection sensitivity, impulsivity, guilt and binge eating behavior were administered to 607 female adolescents in Changwon and Ulsan. Of 572 collected copies, 402 were deemed valid and statistically analyzed through frequency analysis, mean and standard deviation, t-test, Pearson's correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis using SPSS Win 12.0. The results of the study were as follows: 1) School type was found to make a significant difference in rejection sensitivity, overall impulsivity, guilt and binge eating behavior; however, its influence was not significant on the sub-factors of impulsivity: motor impulsivity, unplanned impulsivity and cognitive impulsivity. 2) For female middle school students, rejection anger sensitivity, rejection depression sensitivity and motor impulsivity were found to have a significant influence on binge eating behavior for both middle school and high school girls. Guilt, however, was found to be influential for female high school students only. 3) Impulsivity was found to have a partial mediating effect on the relationship between female adolescents' rejection sensitivity and binge eating behavior.

Purpose: This study was performed to examine the knowledge of HPV in female university students. Methods: Participants consisted of 285 female university students(nursing major;153, others;132). A dichotomy with 20 items of HPV knowledge was developed by a researcher. Results: Reliability of the HPV knowledge tool was Cronbach' alpha .87, and Split-half Guttman coefficient .85. Correction rates of HPV knowledge by item ranged from 19.6 to 76.8%. There were no significant differences in HPV knowledge scores by major group or sex related characteristics. Conclusions: Accurate, university wide education regarding HPV knowledge for female university students should be done regardless of the major; nursing or not. Replication studies with different ages or sex groups and application of HPV education in relation to STI prevention and cervical cancer prevention are recommended.
Functional characterization of sex pheromones in olfactory responses is essential for the study of chemical communications in amphibians. Using Y-maze olfactory preference tests, we have investigated the olfactory res-ponses of male and female red-spotted newts, Notophthalmus viridescens, to the crude extracts of the opposite sex's genial and cloacal pheromones. Both male and female cloacal pheromone extracts caused the opposite sex to initiate olfactory responses by leaving the starting area in the Y-maze, but only subject males exposed to female cloacal pheromone extracts completed olfactory choice by entering the side arm of the Y-maze which received the pheromones. For genial pheromone extracts, only female genial pheromone extracts induced initial olfactory responses from test males. Neither male nor female genial pheromone extracts made the oppo-site sex complete olfactory choice. Pre-exposure of test females to male pheromone extracts increased the likelihood of initial olfactory responses. The latency for initial olfactory responses of test females that were previously exposed to male genial extracts was significantly shorter than that of control females.
