A passivity-based dynamic output feedback controller design is considered for a finite collection of non-square linear systems. Design of a single controller for a set of plants i.e. simultaneous stabilization is an important issue in the area of robust control design. We first determine a squaring gain matrix and an additional dynamics that is connected to the systems in a feedforward way, then a static passivating control law is designed. Consequently, the actual feedback controller will be the static control law combined with the feedforward dynamics. A necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of the parallel feedforward compensator is given by the static output feedback formulation. In contrast to the previous result [1], a technical condition for constructing the parallel feedforward compensator is removed by proposing a new type of the parallel compensator.
Real-Time Hybrid Simulation (RTHS) is a powerful and cost-effective dynamic experimental technique. To implement a stable and accurate RTHS, time delay present in the experiment loop needs to be compensated. This delay is mostly introduced by servo-hydraulic actuator dynamics and can be reduced by applying appropriate compensators. Existing compensators have demonstrated effective performance in achieving good tracking performance. Most of them have been focused on their application in cases where the structure under investigation is subjected to inputs with relatively low frequency bandwidth such as earthquake excitations. To advance RTHS as an attractive technique for other engineering applications with broader excitation frequency, a discrete-time feedforward compensator is developed herein via various optimization techniques to enhance the performance of RTHS. The proposed compensator is unique as a discrete-time, model-based feedforward compensator. The feedforward control is chosen because it can substantially improve the reference tracking performance and speed when the plant dynamics is well-understood and modeled. The discrete-time formulation enables the use of inherently stable digital filters for compensator development, and avoids the error induced by continuous-time to discrete-time conversion during the compensator implementation in digital computer. This paper discusses the technical challenges in designing a discrete-time compensator, and proposes several optimal solutions to resolve these challenges. The effectiveness of compensators obtained via these optimal solutions is demonstrated through both numerical and experimental studies. Then, the proposed compensators have been successfully applied to RTHS tests. By comparing these results to results obtained using several existing feedforward compensators, the proposed compensator demonstrates superior performance in both time delay and Root-Mean-Square (RMS) error.

In this paper, we suggest fuzzy control with feedforward compensator of superheat to progress both energy saving and coefficient of performance(COP) in a variable speed refrigeration system. The capacity and superheat are controlled simultaneously and independently by an inverter and an electronic expansion valve respectively for saving energy and improving COP in the system. By adopting the fuzzy control. the controller design for the capacity and superheat is possible without depending on a dynamic model of the system. Moreover, the feedforward compensator of the superheat can eliminate influence of the interfering loop between capacity and superheat. Some experiments are conducted to design the appropriate fuzzy controller by an iteration manner. The results show that the proposed fuzzy controller with the compensator can establish good control performances for the complicated refrigeration system with inherent strong non-linearity.
In this paper, we deal wit,11 a simple tim varying feedforward compensator in order to decrease the amount of undershoots and overshoots on the step response. This compensator makes the step type input be a ramp input with saturation for 0 $\leq$ t < $\alpha$. It will be shown that the system with the feedforward compensator has small amount of undershoot and overshoot at the price of rise time. Also, provided the system properly stable, the influence of the design parameter $\alpha$ on the step response of the system with the feedforward compensator is investigated in the current paper.

This paper proposes a simple feedforward compensator in order to decrease the amount of undershoots and overshoots on the step response in nonminimum phase systems. The compensator makes the step type input be a ramp input with saturation for 0$\leq$t<${\alpha}$. It is shown in this paper that the compensated system has small amount of undershoot and overshoot at the price of rise time compared to the system without compensator. Also, provided the system is properly stable, the influence of the design parameter ${\alpha}$ on the step response of the nonminimum phase system is investigated in the case of Type A, and Type B undershoot, which gives a guideline for the compensator design.

This paper presents a position tracking control of a flexible beam using the piezoelectric actuator. This is achieved by implementing both feedforward hysteretic compensator of the actuator and PID feedback controller. The Preisach model is adopted to develop the feedforward hysteretic compensator. In the design of the compensator, estimated displacement of the piezoceramic actuator is used on the basis of the limiting triangle database that results from collecting data of the main reversal curve and the first order ascending curves. Experimental implementation is conducted for position tracking control and performance comparison is made between a PID feedback controller without considering the effect of hysteresis, and a PID feedback controller integrated with the feedforward hysteretic compensator.

We present a state-space approach to make non-square linear systems strictly passive by using an input-dimensional parallel feedforward compensator. A necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of the parallel feedforward compensator is given by the static output feedback formulation, which enables to utilize linear matrix inequality. By modifying the structure of the compensator the additional technical assumption in the previous result [1] is removed. The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated by some numerical examples which can be stabilized by the proportional-derivative (PD) and proportional-derivative-integral (PID) control laws. The proposed control scheme can successfully replace the measurements of derivative terms in the control laws.

In this paper, a disturbance feedforward compensator design technique is proposed for an active magnetic bearing system subject to base motion for attenuating disturbance responses. In the consideration of the requirements on the model accuracy in the model based compensator designs, an experimental feedforward compensator design based on adaptive estimation by means of the Multiple Filtered-x least mean square(MFXLMS) algorithm is proposed. The performance and the effectiveness of the proposed technique will be presented in the succeeding paper in which the proposed technique is applied to a 2-DOF active magnetic bearing system subject to base motion.

This paper deals with a hybrid position/force control of a robot which is moving on the constrained object with constant force. The proposed controller is composed of a position and force controller. The position controller has a nonlinear compensator which is based on the dynamic robot model and the force controller is attached by feedforward element. A direct drive robot with hard nonlinearity which is controlled by the proposed algorithm has moved on the constrained object with a high stiffness and low stiffness. The results show that the proposed controller has more vibration suppression effects which is occurred to the constrained object with a high stiffness, than a existing feedback controller, and accurate force control can be obtained by comparatively a small feedback gain.
