Replacement value of cassava for maize in broiler chicken diets supplemented with enzymes

  • Objective: Pellet durability, particle size distribution, growth response, tibia bone characteristics and energy retention were measured to evaluate cassava as an alternative energy source to replace maize in broiler diets with or without Ronozyme (A+VP) enzyme composites. Methods: A total of 480 one-day broiler chicks were randomly assigned to 8 treatments in a 4×2 factorial arrangement. Four levels of cassava: (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%) and 2 levels of enzymes (0 and 500 g/tonne) were used. Each treatment was replicated six times, with ten birds per replicate. Results: The particle size distribution in the diets showed an increasing trend of small particles with increase in cassava level. Pellet durability decreased (p<0.05) with cassava inclusion. Feed intake was highest in birds fed diets with medium cassava level at 1 to 24 d and 1 to 35 d of age. The body weight gain of birds reduced (p<0.037) as cassava level increased, but it increased (p<0.017 when enzymes were added. The feed conversion ratio was high (p<0.05) when cassava level was increased, but it reduced (p<0.05) when enzymes were added. The dressing percentage (DP), and weight of drumsticks reduced (p<0.05) with increasing cassava level. Enzyme supplementation increased (p<0.05) DP, and weight of breast, thighs and drumsticks. Ash content, weight, length, width, and bone strength decreased (p<0.05) when cassava level was increased, however, they were increased with enzyme addition. The contents of Ca, K, and Zn were raised (p<0.001) with increasing cassava level. Enzyme inclusion increased (p<0.001) all mineral contents in tibia bones. Body fat and energy retained as fat decreased (p<0.001) as cassava level increased. Enzyme inclusion increased (p<0.05) body protein content and energy retained as protein. Conclusion: Although broiler performance was depressed by high levels of cassava inclusion, it was not affected by low levels, which further improved by enzyme supplementation.

Effect of Red Pepper (Capsicum frutescens) Powder or Red Pepper Pigment on the Performance and Egg Yolk Color of Laying Hens

  • Two experiments were conducted to study the effects of red pepper (Capsicum frutescens) powder or red pepper pigment on the performance and egg yolk color of laying hens. In Exp. 1, 210, thirty-wk old, Hy-line Brown laying hens were fed one of seven diets containing 0.3, 0.6, 1.2, 2.0, 4.8 or 9.6 ppm red pepper pigment or 0.3 ppm carophyll red. Each diet was fed to three replicate batteries of hens with each battery consisting of a row of five cages of hens with two hens per cage (n = 3). In Exp. 2, 180, thirty-wk old, Hyline Brown laying hens, housed similarly to those in Exp. 1, were fed an unsupplemented basal diet as well as treatments in which the basal diet was supplemented with 0.8% red pepper powder processed in a laboratory blender to an average particle size of $300{\mu}m$, 0.8% red pepper powder processed as a super fine powder with a vibrational mill ($44{\mu}m$) and finally 0.8% red pepper powder processed as a super fine powder with a vibrational mill but mixed with 5% $Na_2CO_3$ either before or after grinding. A diet supplemented with 0.3 ppm carophyll red pigment was also included (n = 3). In both experiments, hens were fed the red pepper powder or pigment for 14 days. After feeding of the powder or pigment was terminated, all hens were fed the basal diet for eight more days to determine if the dietary treatments had any residual effects. In Exp. 1, there were no differences in egg-laying performance, feed consumption or feed conversion ratio due to inclusion of red pepper pigment in the diet. Average egg weight was higher (p<0.05) for birds fed 1.2, 2.4 or 9.6 ppm red pepper pigment than for birds fed the diet containing 0.3 ppm red pepper pigment. On d 14, egg color scores increased linearly as the level of red pepper pigment in the diet increased. In Exp. 2, feeding red pepper powder did not affect egg-laying performance, feed consumption or feed conversion ratio (p>0.05). However, compared with the control group, supplementation with all of the red pepper powder treatments increased egg weight (p<0.05). All the red pepper powder treatments also increased (p<0.05) the yolk color score compared with the control. The results of the present study suggest that both red pepper powder and pigment are effective feed additives for improving egg yolk color for laying hens.

신예미 광산 철광석의 볼밀 분쇄 및 단체분리 특성 연구 (Breakage and Liberation Characteristics of Iron Ore from Shinyemi Mine by Ball Mill)

  • 본 연구에서는 정선 신예미 광산 철광석을 대상으로 볼밀에 의한 분쇄 및 단체분리 특성을 파악하고자 하였다. 자력 선별을 통해 얻은 세 가지 품위의 시료에 대해, 볼밀 단일 입도 분쇄실험 및 비선형 계획법을 이용한 역산법으로 물질수지방정식을 구성하는 분쇄 함수 인자를 도출하였다. 그 결과 철광석 품위의 증가에 따라 분쇄율은 감소하였으며, 입도 민감도는 감소하였다. 이는 철광석 내의 자철석 입자가 미소 균열의 전파를 지연하는 효과에 기인하는 것으로 판단된다. 분쇄 분포 관찰 결과, 품위가 증가할수록 압축 및 충격 파괴가 주된 파분쇄 메커니즘으로 나타났으며, 이는 입자 내부 자철석 입자의 응력 분산 효과에 기인하는 것으로 판단된다. 분석 결과 단체분리도는 품위 증가 및 입도 감소에 따라 증가하였다. 분쇄함수와 입도-단체분리도 관계를 이용, 분쇄진행에 따른 단체분리도 변화를 예측할 수 있는 모델을 수립하였으며, 본 연구를 통해 도출한 분쇄함수들에 실제 운전 조건에 따른 스케일업 인자 적용 시, 실제 광산 공정에서의 분쇄시간에 따른 입도 및 단체분리도를 예측할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

패각 칼슘 입자 크기에 따른 흡수율 (Intestinal Permeability of Oyster Shell Calcium with Different Particle Sizes)

  • 본 연구에서는 패각에서 유래하는 칼슘의 이용가치를 높이고자 분쇄한 패각 칼슘을 입자 크기별로 제조하여 이온화율과 흡수율을 조사하였다. 패각 칼슘분말 현탁액을 알코올 중에서 비중차이별로 분리하고 입자 크기를 측정하여 4개의 시료군으로 나누었다; NC(일반 패각 칼슘), C-1(1,000 rpm 상등액), C-2(2,000 rpm 상등액), C-3(3,000 rpm 상등액). 이들의 입자 크기는 각각 $2,280.3{\pm}64nm$, $521.3{\pm}83.3nm$, $313.9{\pm}29.5nm$, $280{\pm}3.4nm$를 보였다. 각 칼슘군들을 대상으로 이온화 정도를 측정한 결과 C-3군이 오차범위내에서 다른 군들에 비해 이온화율이 다소 증가했다. In vitro 상에서 dialysis 막을 이용한 나노칼슘의 투과율을 측정한 결과 나노칼슘의 입자 크기가 작을수록 막 투과성이 증대됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 한편 rat의 내장주머니 막(intestinal sac)을 이용하여 장내 환경별 나노칼슘의 투과율을 측정한 결과 C-3군을 제외한 모든 군에서 십이지장(pH 4.2)과 공장(pH 6.2) 환경보다는 회장(pH 7.2)에서의 나노칼슘의 장투과율이 비교적 높게 나타난 반면 C-3군에서는 십이지장 환경에서의 투과율이 다소 높았다. 특히 십이지장 환경에서의 샘플 간 투과율을 비교할 때 C-2와 C-3군이 가장 높은 투과율을 보였고 NC 칼슘이 가장 낮은 투과율을 나타내어 입자 크기가 작을수록 장 투과율이 증가함을 확인할 수 있었다. 위의 결과를 종합해볼 때, 패각에서 유래하는 칼슘을 적절한 가공처리를 거쳐 나노칼슘으로 만들면 칼슘의 이온화율과 장내흡수율을 향상시킬 수 있는 것으로 사료된다.

Investigation of Nanometals (Ni and Sn) in Platinum-Based Ternary Electrocatalysts for Ethanol Electro-oxidation in Membraneless Fuel Cells

  • In the present work, Carbon supported Pt100, Pt80Sn20, Pt80Ni20 and Pt80Sn10Ni10 electrocatalysts with different atomic ratios were prepared by ethylene glycol-reduction method to study the electro-oxidation of ethanol in membraneless fuel cell. The electrocatalysts were characterized in terms of structure, morphology and composition by using XRD, TEM and EDX techniques. Transmission electron microscopy measurements revealed a decrease in the mean particle size of the catalysts for the ternary compositions. The electrocatalytic activities of Pt100/C, Pt80Sn20/C, Pt80Ni20/C and Pt80Sn10Ni10/C catalysts for ethanol oxidation in an acid medium were investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and chronoamperometry (CA). The electrochemical results showed that addition of Ni to Pt/C and Pt-Sn/C catalysts significantly shifted the onset of ethanol and CO oxidations toward lower potentials. The single membraneless ethanol fuel cell performances of the Pt80Sn10Ni10/C, Pt80Sn20/C and Pt80Ni20/C anode catalysts were evaluated at room temperature. Among the catalysts investigated, the power density obtained for Pt80Sn10Ni10/C (37.77 mW/cm2 ) catalyst was higher than that of Pt80Sn20/C (22.89 mW/cm2 ) and Pt80Ni20/C (16.77 mW/ cm2 ), using 1.0 M ethanol + 0.5 M H2SO4 as anode feed and 0.1 M sodium percarbonate + 0.5 M H2SO4 as cathode feed.

한우사 내부 위치 및 TMR 배합 작업에 따른 분진 모니터링 (Dust Concentration Monitoring in Korean Native Cattle Farm according to Sampling Location and TMR Process)

  • Many parts of problems in livestock industry today are associated with organic dust. Endotoxin and toxic gasses on the surface of dust and dust itself can cause aesthetic displeasure and respiratory disease. It also reduces livestock productivity by suppressing immunity of animals and carrying microbes causing animal disease. However, dust level of cattle farm was rarely reported in Korea, and regulation for cattle farm worker does not exist. In this paper, dust concentration and environmental condition were regularly monitored in a commercial Korean native cattle farm. The measurement was conducted according to location and working activities. From the measurement, distribution of dust concentration was affected by wind environment, as the result of natural ventilation. TMR mixer was a major source of dust in target cattle house. The maximum inhalable dust concentration was 637.8 times higher than exposure limit as feed dropped into the TMR mixer. It was expected that dust generation could be affected by particle size and drop height of feed. This study suggests potential risk of dust in cattle farm, and necessity for latter study. Effect of aerodynamic condition and TMR processing should be investigated for dust reduction study.

EFFECT OF PROCESSING ON THE NUTRITIVE VALUE OF EIGHT CROP RESIDUES AND TWO FOREST GRASSES IN GOATS AND SHEEP

  • Eight crop residues : 1, sorghum (Sorqhum bicolor) straw, 2, maize (Zea mays) straw, 3, cotton (Gossypium Sp.) straw, 4, sunflower (Helianthus Sp.) straw, 5, cotton (Gossypium Sp.) seed hulls, 6, groundnut (Archais hypogaea) hulls, 7, maize (Zea mays) cobs, 8, sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) bagasse and two forest grasses 9, Heteropogan contortus dry grass and 10, Sehima nervosum dry grass were subjected to three physical processing 1, chopping (2-3 cm) 2, grinding (8 mm sieve) and 3, pelleting (10 mm die holes). The processed material was fed ad lib. Along with 250 g of concentrate mixture per head per day to 6 adult local goats and 16 adult Nellore rams in ten digestion experiments and finally assessed the nutritive value of the processed roughages by difference method. Grinding increased bulk density by 32.4 (cotton seed hulls, CSH) to 88.1% (Sehima dry grass) while pelleting of ground material increased bulk density by 53.9 (maize cobs) to 235.8% (maize straw). The average particle size ranged from $584.1/^U$ (sorghum straw) to $1467/^U$ (CSH). Modulus of uniformity ranged from 2:5:3 (sorghum straw) to 7:2:1 (CSH) while modulus of fineness ranged from 3.4 (sorghum straw) to 5.4 (CSH). Molasses absorbability was highest with cotton seed hulls and least with maize cobs. Pelleting increased DM intake of the residues except cotton seed hulls compared to grinding. Grinding of chopped material/unprocessed material increased DM intake on sorghum straw and cotton seed hulls. Sheep consumed more DM compared to goats on all the residues except sorghum and sunflower straws. Pelleting increased nutritive value of all the residues compared to grinding and chopping. However, no difference was observed in the nutritive value due to grinding and chopping. Goats performed better compared to sheep in utilizing the fibrous residues.

상황버섯박의 사료화에 관한 연구 (Utilization of Phellinus linteus Meal as a Feed)

  • 본 시험은 상황버섯박의 사료가치를 조사하기 위하여 화학적 성분을 분석하고, 산란계를 이용하여 급여수준(급여사료의 0, 5, 10 및 20%)에 따른 대사율과 혈청 IgG 농도를 조사하였다. 영양적 조성에 있어서는 섬유질성 단미사료 수준 이상의 영양소를 함유하고 있으며, 산란계에 대한 대사율은 대조구에 비하여 상황버섯박 10 및 20% 첨가구가 유의하게 낮은 결과를 보였다(p<0.05). 그리고 혈청 IgG 농도에 있어서는 첨가수준에 따른 유의적인 차이를 발견할 수 없었다. 위 결과로 볼 때 상황버섯박은 섬유질 함량이 높아 단위 동물의 사료로는 제한적 사용이 불가피하며, 버섯의 약리성분은 추출잔류물이라는 특성으로 볼 때 그 작용을 기대하기는 어려울 것으로 판단된다. 또한 상황버섯박은 섬유질 함량이 높은 것으로 보아 단위 동물보다는 반추동물의 사료로 이용하는 것이 유리할 것으로 생각된다.

활성탄소섬유를 이용한 탄소전극의 제조 및 축전식 탈염공정에서의 성능평가 (Preparation of Carbon Electrodes Using Activated Carbon Fibers and Their Performance Characterization for Capacitive Deionization Process)

  • 본 연구에서는 활성탄소섬유를 이용하여 축전식 탈염공정에 적용할 탄소전극을 제조하였다. polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)를 바인더로 사용했으며 적절한 용매에 활성탄소섬유를 배합한 후 상용의 그라파이트 시트에 캐스팅하여 탄소전극을 제조하였다. 이 때 활성탄소섬유의 입자 크기를 달리하였고, 용매, 고분자 바인더 그리고 활성탄소섬유를 80 : 2 : 18, 80 : 5 : 15의 배합비율로 전극을 제조하였다. 그런 다음 염 제거 효율을 흡착전압과 시간, 탈착전압과 시간, NaCl 공급액의 농도와 유속 등에 운전조건에 대하여 염 제거 효율을 측정하였다. 대표적으로 활성탄소섬유의 입자크기가 $32{\mu}m$ 이하이며 80 : 2 : 18의 배합비율에서 1.2 V, 3분의 흡착조건, -0.1 V, 1분의 탈착조건, NaCl 100 mg/L, 15 mL/min의 공급액 조건에서 53.6%의 염 제거 효율을 보였다.

온도에 따른 탄탈 분말 제조와 특성 (Production of Tantalum Powder and Characteristics by Temperature)

  • Pure tantalum powder has been produced by sodium as a reluctant, $K_2TaF_7$as a feed material and KCl/KF as a diluent in an inconel stainless steel bomb by the metallothermic reduction. The influence of experimental variable, such as temperature of reduction on the yield and characteristics of the Ta powder has been studied. As the temperature of the reduction was varied from$ 800{\circ}C~980{\circ}C$, the yield of tantalum powder increased from 41% to 56%. However no appreciable improvement was observed above$920{\circ}C$. The fraction of fine Ta Powder decreased appreciably with the increase of temperature, and particle size was$2~3{\mu}m$at reduction temperature of$920{\circ}C$.Therefore a reduction temperature of$920{\circ}C$was optimally fixed for subsequent runs.
