  • This paper has two objectives. One is to introduce a software package, "FASTLite" for fire safety engineering calculation, the other to show the modeling result of a backdraft incident on the 62 WATTS street. A classic backdraft usually persists only seconds before exhausting their fuel supply but in this case the flame had persists for at least 6 and a half minutes. It is truly necessary to find out where the fuel came from to feed this flame for so long. The backdraft is successfully modelled by using FASTLite. To help understanding of this backdraft, the calculation with the door open is also carried out and compared to the backdraft.

  • In this paper, a novel delta/double-fork transformer based 18-pulse full-wave AC-DC converter is designed, modeled, simulated and developed to feed isolated DC varying loads. The proposed AC-DC converter is used for low voltage and large current DC loads in applications such as electrowinning, where isolation is required mainly for stepping down the supply voltage. The proposed converter improves power quality at AC mains and meets IEEE-519 standard requirements at varying loads.

  • As the demand for meat products has steadily increased in Korea, so the livestock industry has full grown. However, the opening of import meat products is taking a toll on the local industry. Cost reduction on livestock feed, which comprises the majority of costs involved in the industry is urgent to gain a competitive edge. As Internet of Things (IoT) technologies are being applied across a multiple of industries, so are the cases of applied Smart Farm technology for efficient production. The following research aims to utilize IoT technologies to measure, in real time, the rate of depletion of feed and remaining amount and to propose an effective automated reorder & delivery system. First, a method of utilization of ultrasonic and temperature/humidity sensors to obtain corresponding data of remaining feed in the Feedbin is proposed. In addition, a method of sending the obtained data via on-the-farm gateway to Supply Chain Management (SCM) servers is proposed. Finally, utilization of the stored data to construct an automated reorder & delivery service system is proposed. It is in the researcher's intention to contribute to and enable the local livestock industry with the application of various IoT services.

  • A design thinking-based collaborative workshop in which various stakeholders in the milk processing industry circulation ecosystem participated shows a new problem innovation paradigm that encourages the spread of practical prototyping culture. in the expression of empathy and collective intelligence among members on facing issues, the conversion of collaboration and communication methods, the business handling of the organization based on the design work method as 'creativity mechanism'. In this workshop, which was promoted in three stages of 'approach to problems', 're-definition of problems', and 'experience-based future vision design', participants themselves redefine real problems in terms of the accuracy of feed orders between feed suppliers and livestock farmers, ordering of feeds on time, cost reduction of feed supply and present new alternatives and expanded business areas. The results suggested in this workshop suggest the usefulness of design thinking in business innovation in that they presented how to approach the problem and a creative thinking system to find its solution to direct and indirect stakeholders of the industry as well as the improvement of supply and demand rate of livestock feed and quality.

  • Protozoa can represent as half of the total rumen microbial biomass. Around 10 genera are generally present on the same time in the rumen. Based on nutritional aspects they can be divided in large entodiniomorphs, small entodiniomorphs and isotrichs. Their feeding behaviour and their enzymatic activities differ considerably. Many comparisons between defaunated and refaunated animals were carried out during the last two decades to explain the global role of protozoa at the ruminal or animal levels. It is now generally considered that a presence of an abundant protozoal population in the rumen has a negative effect on the amino acid (AA) supply to ruminants and contribute to generate more methane but, nevertheless, protozoa must not be considered as parasites. They are useful for numerous reasons. They stabilise rumen pH when animal are fed diets rich in available starch and decrease the redox potential of rumen digesta. Because cellulolytic bacteria are very sensitive to these two parameters, protozoa indirectly stimulate the bacterial cellulolytic activity and supply their own activity to the rumen microbial ecosystem. They could also supply some peptides in the rumen medium which can stimulate the growth of the rumen microbiota, but this aspect has never been considered in the past. Their high contribution to ammonia production has bad consequences on the urinary nitrogen excretion but means also that less dietary soluble nitrogen is necessary when protozoa are present. Changes in the molar percentages of VFA and gases from rumen fermentations are not so large that they could alter significantly the use of energy by animals. The answer of animals to elimination of protozoa (defaunation) depends on the balance between energy and protein needs of animals and the supply of nutrients supplied through the diet. Defaunation is useful in case of diets short in protein nitrogen but not limited in energy supply for animals having high needs of proteins.

  • This paper presents an automated cow-feeding system based on an AGV and screw conveyor for domestic livestock farms, which are becoming larger and more commercialized. The system includes a hopper module for loading pellet-type mixed feed at the top of the system, a transfer module mounted with a screw conveyor to transfer feed from the hopper module to the outlet module, an outlet module composed of belt conveyors, and an electromagnetic guided driving-type AGV. The weight of the loaded feed is measured by a load cell located under the transfer module. The system reads the feed discharge information stored in RFID tags installed in each cowshed cell, and a predetermined amount of feed is discharged while the AGV is moving. A cow-feed test system was constructed to determine the design parameters of the screw conveyor in the transfer module that determine the feeding capacity. These parameters include the screw's outer diameter, the screw shaft outer diameter, and screw pitch. The parameters were applied to the finalized cow-feed system construction. A DSP-based main controller and cow-feeding algorithm for different scenarios were also developed to control the system. Experimental results confirmed that the system could supply a total of 21 kg of feed uniformly at 420 g/s for a cowshed cell which has 7 cows. The driving distance was 5 m and the speed was 0.1 m/s. Thus, the proposed system could be applied to standardized domestic livestock farms.

  • Purpose: In EU, the animal welfare regulations are strengthening. Also, in Korea, for strengthening of animal protection laws, animal welfare farm certification scheme is being prepared to enforce. To get the certification of animal welfare farm, especially for sows, individual specific feeding in sow group is necessary in accordance with the animal welfare regulation. Also, liquid feeding is reported to be more effective for farrowing as well as dry sow. Therefore, in this study, a electronic liquid sow feeder using RFID which could be fed to farrowing sow simultaneously is developed. Methods : We manufactured a prototype of appropriate elements which were evaluated in the preliminary test for selecting RFID tag, supply pump, mixing type, etc. With the prototype, the performance test for liquid feeding gilt was done in group raising training barn. Results : The performance test result shows the C.V.(coefficient of variation) of liquid mixing and feeding is 0.77~1.97% and 2.4~5.3%, respectively, which means the system could feed sows uniformly. The feeding time of pneumatically activated ball valve is 2 seconds per 0.9 kg of liquid feed. The eating time for gilt were 65 seconds in average. Conclusions : The prototype could feed sow uniformly, and deliver the liquid feed 9 times for a sow continuously. Also, total eating time for a sow was 18 minutes in one visit to the prototype of feeding station.

  • Since the government announced the roadmap to revitalize the hydrogen economy, we are constantly making the effort to expand the use of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) and hydrogen charging stations. There is however a significant issue to build and operate the hydrogen charging station due to the lack of the profit model. Many researchers believe that the supply of FCEV will be increased in the near future and finally ensure the economy of hydrogen charging stations. This study shows that the sales changes of hydrogen gas and consumption patterns by the operation of the hydrogen charging station in Changwon City. The results will be used as the evidence to support for operating the hydrogen charging station by private businesses and the validity of additional establishment of hydrogen charging stations.
