In content-based image retrieval, the query is an image itself and the retrieval process is the process that seeking the similar images to the given query image. In this way of retrieval, the user has to know the basic physical features of target images that he wants to retrieve. But it has some restriction because to retrieve the target image he has to know the basic physical feature space such as color, texture, shape and spatial relationship. In this paper, we propose an emotion-based retrieval system. It uses the emotion that color images have. It is different from past emotion-based image retrieval in point of view that it uses relevance feedback to estimate the users intend and it is easily combined with past content-based image retrieval system. To test the performance of our proposed system, we use MPEG-7 color descriptor and emotion language such as "warm", "clean", "bright" and "delight" We test about 1500 wallpaper images and get successful result.lpaper images and get successful result.

As the availability of an image information has been significantly increasing, necessity of system that can manage an image information is increasing. Accordingly, we proposed the content-based image retrieval(CBIR) method based on an efficient combination of a color feature and an image's shape and position information. As a color feature, a HSI color histogram is chosen which is known to measure spatial of colors well. Shape and position information are obtained using Hu invariant moments in the luminance of HSI model. For efficient similarity computation, the extracted features(Color histogram, Hu invariant moments) are combined and then measured precision. As a experiment result using DB that was supported by http://www.freefoto.com, the proposed image search engine has 93% precision and can apply successfully image retrieval applications.

This paper presents an efficient object-based color image-retrieval algorithm that is suitable for the classification and retrieval of images from small to mid-scale datasets, such as images in PCs, tablets, phones, and cameras. The proposed method first finds salient regions by using regional feature vectors, and also finds several dominant colors in each region. Then, each salient region is partitioned into small sub-blocks, which are assigned 1 or 0 with respect to the number of pixels corresponding to a dominant color in the sub-block. This gives a binary map for the dominant color, and this process is repeated for the predefined number of dominant colors. Finally, we have several binary maps, each of which corresponds to a dominant color in a salient region. Hence, the binary maps represent the spatial distribution of the dominant colors in the salient region, and the union (OR operation) of the maps can describe the approximate shapes of salient objects. Also proposed in this paper is a matching method that uses these binary maps and which needs very few computations, because most operations are binary. Experiments on widely used color image databases show that the proposed method performs better than state-of-the-art and previous color-based methods.
This paper proposes an efficient photo retrieval system that automatically indexes for searching of relevant images, using a combination of geo-coded information, direction/location of image capture device and content-based visual features. A photo image is labeled with its GPS (Global Positioning System) coordinates and direction of the camera view at the moment of capture, and the label leads to generate a geo-spatial index with three core elements of latitude, longitude and viewing direction. Then, content-based visual features are extracted and combined with the geo-spatial information, for indexing and retrieving the photo images. For user's querying process, the proposed method adopts two steps as a progressive approach, filtering the relevant subset prior to use a content-based ranking function. To evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme, we assess the simulation performance in terms of average precision and F-score, using a natural photo collection. Comparing the proposed approach to retrieve using only visual features, an improvement of 20.8% was observed. The experimental results show that the proposed method exhibited a significant enhancement of around 7.2% in retrieval effectiveness, compared to previous work. These results reveal that a combination of context and content analysis is markedly more efficient and meaningful that using only visual feature for image search.
Example-based super resolution is a method to restore a high resolution image from low resolution images through training and retrieval of image patches. It is not only good in its performance but also available for a single frame low-resolution image. However, its time complexity is very high because it requires lots of comparisons to retrieve image patches in restoration process. In order to improve the restoration speed, an efficient patch retrieval algorithm is essential. In this paper, we applied various high-dimensional feature retrieval methods, available for the patch retrieval, to a practical example-based super resolution system and compared their speed. As well, we propose to apply the multi-phase candidate reduction approach to the patch retrieval process, which was successfully applied in character recognition fields but not used for the super resolution. In the experiments, LSH was the fastest among conventional methods. The multi-phase candidate reduction method, proposed in this paper, was even faster than LSH: For $1024{\times}1024$ images, it was 3.12 times faster than LSH.
This paper proposes a color-based image retrieval method using color adjacency and gradient. In proposed method, both the adjacency of different colors and gradient of a color in homogeneous region are considered as features of an image. The gradient, defined as the maximum distance along the direction with largest change of color, is computed for each pixel to determine whether the center color is similar or different to the neighboring colors. Therefore the problems caused by uniform quantization, which is popularly used at most existing retrieval, can be avoided. And furthermore, the storage of the feature is reduced by the proposed binary representation.
Image retrieval is one of the most exciting and fastest growing research fields in the area of multimedia technology. As the amount of digital contents continues to grow users are experiencing increasing difficulty in finding specific images in their image libraries. This paper proposes an efficient image descriptor which uses a local color and texture in the non-overlapped block images. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we assessed the retrieval efficiency in terms of ANMRR with common image dataset. The experimental trials revealed that the proposed algorithm exhibited a significant improvement in ANMRR, compared to Dominant Color Descriptor and Edge Histogram Descriptor.

This study has proposed a method of content-based image retrieval in order to overcome disadvantages of color histogram. The existing histogram method has a weak point that reduces accuracy because of quantization error, and more. In order to solve this, we convert color information to HSV and quantize Hue factor being net color information and calculate histogram and then use this for retrieval feature that is robust in brightness, movement, and rotation. As a result of experimenting, the method proposed has showed better precision than the existing method.

This paper presents a threshold adaptation based voice query transcription scheme for music information retrieval. The proposed scheme analyzes monophonic voice signal and generates its transcription for diverse music retrieval applications. For accurate transcription, we propose several advanced features including (i) Energetic Feature eXtractor (EFX) for onset, peak, and transient area detection; (ii) Modified Windowed Average Energy (MWAE) for defining multiple small but coherent windows with local threshold values as offset detector; and finally (iii) Circular Average Magnitude Difference Function (CAMDF) for accurate acquisition of fundamental frequency (F0) of each frame. In order to evaluate the performance of our proposed scheme, we implemented a prototype music transcription system called AMT2 (Automatic Music Transcriber version 2) and carried out various experiments. In the experiment, we used QBSH corpus [1], adapted in MIREX 2006 contest data set. Experimental result shows that our proposed scheme can improve the transcription performance.

In this paper, we describe a new trademark retrieval system based upon the content or the shape of trademark. The system has an on-line graphical user interface for the World Wide Web (WWW) that allows user to provide a query in forms of a sketch or a visual image to search for similar trademarks from database. User interfaces for the WWW were implemented by utilizing HTML and Java applets. The query can occur in arbitrary size and orientation. A shape representation scheme invariant to scale and rotation was developed to measure the similarity between two trademarks using the magnitude of Zernike moments as a feature set. Performance evaluation has been carried out with a database of 3,000 trademarks. It takes only about 0.6 second for the retrieval on a 200 MHz Pentium PC. The average recall of the original one among top 30 candidates queried by noisy or deformed images was 100%.
