  • In this paper, a new algorithm is proposed that the template matching is used to devide SOFM (self-organizig feature map) for fast learning and to extract features for considering input data types. In order to verify the superoprity of the proposed algorithm, applied to the recognition of handwritten numerals. Templates of handwritten numerals are created by a line of external-contact.

  • On-line monitoring of fault discharge is an important approach for indicating the condition of electrical insulation of stator winding in high voltage motor. In this paper, several key aspects of on-line monitoring system are discussed, involving the characteristics of fault discharge of stator winding in high voltage motor, spectrum analysis of four simulation fault signals, feature extraction of internal fault discharge from apply voltage to breakdown. The study of the partial discharge activities allows to highlight the ageing stage in the winding fault under test. During the life of the winding insulation fault, the shape of PD signal change relating to the ageing stage. The ageing of stator winding insulation fault of high voltage motor is investigated based on the characteristics of partial discharge pulse distribution and statistical parameters, such as maximum, skewness and kurtosis using discrete wavelet trnasform coefficients.

  • The Hough transform (HT), that is a typical algorithm for detecting lines in images, needs considerable computational costs and easily detects pseudo-lines on the real world images, because of the large amount of features generated by their complex background or noise. This paper proposes an improved HT that add a preprocessing to estimate the validity of features to the conventional HT. The feature estimation can remove a lot of inessential features for the line detection using a pattern of $3{\times}3$ block features. Experiments using various images show that the proposed algorithm saves computational costs by removing 14%~58% of features depending on images and besides it is superior to the conventional HT in valid line detection.

  • We found a diffuse Hα feature with a large size of ~2' around a Herbig star, MWC 1080. It shows a strong correlation with the elongated outflow cavity centered on the star. To investigate the diffuse Hα source and the molecular cavity in detail, we carried out the high-resolution NIR spectroscopy using IGRINS. We detected six hydrogen Brackett line series, seven H2 lines, and an [Fe II] forbidden line. With the obtained spatial, kinematic, and line ratio results, we discuss the characteristics of the central MWC 1080A, the NE outflow cavity, and the SE molecular cloud regions separately. Most of the bright Brγ sources around MWC 1080A were found to be reflection nebulae, but a point-like Brγ source close to another young star, MWC 1080E, was identified as a distinct source due to MWC 1080E itself. The narrow components of the H2 lines observed around MWC 1080A were found to trace PDRs located on the wall of the main outflow cavity. Based on the shock-excited H2 and [Fe II] lines detected just inside a bow-shock shape Hα feature, we suggest that it represents the actual shock at the head of the NE outflow from MWC 1080A. Also, we newly detected the shock-excited H2 and [Fe II] lines with highly blueshifted velocities in the SE molecular cloud region. They could be related to unrevealed outflows from other young stars existing around MWC 1080A.

  • This paper proposes an effective feature compensation scheme based on speech model for achieving robust speech recognition. Conventional model-based method requires off-line training with noisy speech database and is not suitable for online adaptation. In the proposed scheme, we can relax the off-line training with noisy speech database by employing the parallel model combination technique for estimation of correction factors. Applying the model combination process over to the mixture model alone as opposed to entire HMM makes the online model combination possible. Exploiting the availability of noise model from off-line sources, we accomplish the online adaptation via MAP (Maximum A Posteriori) estimation. In addition, the online channel estimation procedure is induced within the proposed framework. For more efficient implementation, we propose a selective model combination which leads to reduction or the computational complexities. The representative experimental results indicate that the suggested algorithm is effective in realizing robust speech recognition under the combined adverse conditions of additive background noise and channel distortion.

  • If the interlaced scan type camera moves while an image is filming from the camera, blur is often created from the misalignment of the two images of even and odd lines. This paper proposed an algorithm which removes the misalignment of the even and odd line images cased by the vibration of the interlaced scan type camera. The blurred original image is separated into the even and the odd line images as half size. Based on these two images, two full sized images are generated using interpolation technique. If a big difference between these two interpolated images is generated, the original image is taken while the camera is moving. In this case, a deblurred image is obtained with the alignment of these separated two images through feature point extraction, feature point matching, sub-pixel matching, outlier detection, and image mosaicking processes. This paper demonstrated that the proposed algorithm can create clear images from blurred images caused by various camera motions.

  • In spite of that stop line and crosswalk should be aware of the most basic objects in transportation system, its features extracted are very limited. In addition to image-based recognition technology, laser and RF, GPS/INS recognition technology, it is difficult to recognize. For this reason, the limited research in this area has been done. In this paper, the algorithm to recognize the stop line and crosswalk is designed and implemented using image-based recognition technology with the images input through a vision sensor. This algorithm consists of three functions.; One is to select the area, in advance, needed for feature extraction in order to speed up the data processing, 'Region of Interest', another is to process the images only that white color is detected more than a certain proportion in order to remove the unnecessary operation, 'Color Pattern Inspection', the other is 'Feature Extraction and Recognition', which is to extract the edge features and compare this to the previously-modeled one to identify the stop line and crosswalk. For this, especially by using case based feature comparison algorithm, it can identify either both stop line and crosswalk exist or just one exists. Also the proposed algorithm is to develop existing researches by comparing and analysing effect of in-vehicle camera installation and changes in recognition rate of distance estimation and various constraints such as backlight and shadow.

  • We present a new waveform detection method, based on the search of distinctive line-segments. The method is based on the basic assumption that the waveform morphology of biological signals is readily characterized by a sequence of the distinctive line-segments and their structural features. In this method, the distinctive line-segments are first searched for, and a structural feature analysis is performed an the distinctive line-segments found. Experiments of detecting epileptic spikes were carried out to evaluate the detection per formance of the method. Two subjects were used for training and tuning the algorithm and four subjects for testing the method. The results were obtained on two different performance indices, detection ratio and the number of false detections per minute.
