  • Fe-(8.5, 18.5, 28.3, 36.9) wt% Cr alloys were corroded between 600 and $800^{\circ}C$ for up to 70 h in a 1 atm gas mixture that consisted of 0.0242 atm of $H_2S$, 0.031 atm of water vapor, and 0.9448 atm of nitrogen gas. Their corrosion resistance increased with an increment in the Cr content. The Fe-8.5%Cr alloy corroded fast, forming thick, fragile, nonadherent scales that consisted primarily of an outer FeS layer and an inner (Fe, Cr, O, S)-mixed layer. The outer FeS layer grew into the air by the outward diffusion of $Fe^{2+}$ ions, whereas the inner mixed layer grew by the inward diffusion of oxygen and sulfur ions. At the interface of the outer and inner scales, voids developed and cracking occurred. The Fe-(18.5, 28.3, 36.9)% Cr alloys displayed much better corrosion resistance than the Fe-8.5Cr alloy, because thin $Cr_2O_3$ or $Cr_2S_3$ scales formed.

  • The effect of sintering conditions on the austenite stability and strain-induced martensitic transformation of nanocrystalline FeCrC alloy is investigated. Nanocrystalline FeCrC alloys are successfully fabricated by spark plasma sintering with an extremely short densification time to obtain the theoretical density value and prevent grain growth. The nanocrystallite size in the sintered alloys contributes to increased austenite stability. The phase fraction of the FeCrC sintered alloy before and after deformation according to the sintering holding time is measured using X-ray diffraction and electron backscatter diffraction analysis. During compressive deformation, the volume fraction of strain-induced martensite resulting from austenite decomposition is increased. The transformation kinetics of the strain-induced martensite is evaluated using an empirical equation considering the austenite stability factor. The hardness of the S0W and S10W samples increase to 62.4-67.5 and 58.9-63.4 HRC before and after deformation. The hardness results confirmed that the mechanical properties are improved owing to the effects of grain refinement and strain-induced martensitic transformation in the nanocrystalline FeCrC alloy.

  • This study looked at high performance copper-based alloys as LED lead frame materials with higher electrical-conductivity and the maintenance of superior tensile strength. This study investigated the effects on the tensile strength, electrical conductivity, thermal softening, size and distribution of the precipitation phases when Cr was added in Cu-Fe alloy in order to satisfy characteristics for LED Lead Frame material. Strips of the alloys were produced by casting and then properly treated to achieve a thickness of 0.25 mm by hot-rolling, scalping, and cold-rolling; mechanical properties such as tensile strength, hardness and electrical-conductivity were determined and compared. To determine precipitates in alloy that affect hardness and electrical-conductivity, electron microscope testing was also performed. Cr showed the effect of precipitation hardened with a $Cr_3Si$ precipitation phase. As a result of this experiment, appropriate aging temperature and time have been determined and we have developed a copper-based alloy with high tensile strength and electrical-conductivity. This alloy has the possibility for use as a substitution material for the LED Lead Frame of Cu alloy.

  • We found that the """interface reaction between Ni-based alloy bond, diamond, and steel core is very critical in bond strength of diamond tool. None element from metal bond diffuses into the steel core but the Fe element of steel core was easily diffused into the bond. This diffusion depth of Fe has a great effect on the bonding strength. The Cr in steel core accelerated the Fe diffusion and improved the bond strength, on the other hand, carbon decreased the strength. Ni-based alloy bond including Cr was chemically bonded with diamond by forming Cr carbide. However, the Cr and Fe in STS304 were largely interdiffused, the strength was very low. The Cr passivity layer formed at surface of STS304 made worse strength at commissure in brazing process.

High-Temperature Oxidation of Ti Containing Stainless Steel in O2-N2 Atmosphere

  • High temperature oxidation of Fe-19Cr and Fe-19Cr-0.2Ti alloys is studied at 1173-1373 K in 16.5 kPa $O_2$ - balances $N_2$ atmosphere aimed at clarifying the effect of titanium addition. Oxidation rate of Fe-19Cr alloy was accelerated with titanium. For both alloys chromium rich $(Fe,\;Cr)_2O_3$ was formed as a major oxidation product. On Fe-19Cr-0.2Ti alloy, a thin layer composed of spinel type oxide and titanium oxide was also formed and an internal oxidation of titanium was observed. Titanium was concentrated at the oxide surface and internal oxidation zone but a small amount of titanium was also found in the intermediate corundum type $(Fe,\;Cr)_2O_3$ layer. Crystals of corundum type $(Fe,\;Cr)_2O_3$ formed on Fe-19Cr alloy are coarse but that formed on Fe-19Cr -0.2Ti alloys were fine and columnar. Reason for the difference in oxidation kinetics and crystal structure will be discussed relating to the distribution of aliovalent titanium in corundum type $(Fe,\;Cr)_2O_3$ oxide layer.

  • Cr 함량이 alloy 600과 alloy 690의 Cr함량 사이에 위치하는 Ni-Cr-Fe 합금을 진공유도 용해법을 이용하여 제조하였다. 합금 인고트에 대하여 열간 가공성 시험을 수행하여 열간 압연 조건을 구하였다. 열간 및 냉간 압연을 거친 시편을 900~120$0^{\circ}C$ 사이의 여러 온도에서 소둔 열처리하였고, 열처리한 시편에 대하여 기계적 특성과 부식특성을 측정, 분석하였다. Cr 함량은 기계적 강도에는 다소 영향을 미치는 것이 발견되었으나 연신율에는 거의 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 부식속도는 Cr 함량 변화보다 소둔 열처리 온도에 따라 증가하였으며, 110$0^{\circ}C$ 에서 열처리한 경우에는 부식속도가 얼마간 감소하는 것으로 나타났다.

Fe-Cr-Al 기 산화물 분산강화 합금의 미세조직에 미치는 분말제조 공정 영향 (Effect of Powder Synthesis Method on the Microstructure of Oxide Dispersion Strengthened Fe-Cr-Al Based Alloys)

  • An optimum route to fabricate oxide dispersion strengthened ferritic superalloy with desired microstructure was investigated. Two methods of high energy ball milling or polymeric additive solution route for developing a uniform dispersion of $Y_2O_3$ particles in Fe-Cr-Al-Ti alloy powders were compared on the basis of the resulting microstructures. Microstructural observation revealed that the crystalline size of Fe decreased with increases in milling time, to values of about 15-20 nm, and that an FeCr alloy phase was formed. SEM and TEM analyses of the alloy powders fabricated by solution route using yttrium nitrate and polyvinyl alcohol showed that the nano-sized Y-oxide particles were well distributed in the Fe based alloy powders. The prepared powders were sintered at 1000 and $1100^{\circ}C$ for 30 min in vacuum. The sintered specimen with heat treatment before spark plasma sintering at $1100^{\circ}C$ showed a more homogeneous microstructure. In the case of sintering at $1100^{\circ}C$, the alloys exhibited densified microstructure and the formation of large reaction phases due to oxidation of Al.

  • The effects of magnetic powder thickness on electromagnetic wave absorption characteristics in Fe-6.5Si-0.9Cr (wt%) alloy flakes/polymer composite sheets available for quasi-microwave band have been investigated. The atomized FeSiCr powders were milled by using attritor for 12, 24, and 36 h, powder thickness changed from $40{\mu}m$ to $3{\mu}m$ upon 36 h milling. The composite sheet, including thinned magnetic flakes, exhibited higher power loss in the GHz frequency range as compared with the sheets having thick flakes. Moreover, both the complex permeability and the loss factor increased with the decrease in thickness of the alloy flakes. Therefore, the enhanced power loss property of the sheets containing thin alloy flakes was attributed to the flakes of high complex permeability, especially their imaginary part. Additionally, the complex permittivity was also increased with the reduction of flake thickness, and this behavior was considered to be helpful for improvement of the electromagnetic wave absorption characteristics in the composite sheets, including thin alloy flakes.

  • In this paper, study about property evaluation for the metal matrix composites fabricated by low pressure infiltration process. Aluminum alloy composite which is reinforced by Metal fiber preform was fabricated by low pressure casting process. Infiltration condition was changed the pressure infiltration time of 1 sec, 2 sec and 5 sec under a constant pressure of 0.4 MPa. The molten alloy completely infiltrated the FeCrSi metal perform regardless of the increase in the pressure acceleration time. The the porosity in the FeCrSi/AC8A composite was investigated. The porosity was reduced as the pressure acceleration time as shorter. The FeCrSi/AC8A composite was investigated the wear test for to know the relationship between Porosity and wear resistance. FeCrSi/AC8A composite at pressure acceleration time of 1sec is shown excellent wear resistance.

스퍼터링 방법으로 성장한 코발트크롬철망간니켈 고엔트로피 질산화물 박막의 구조특성 (Structural Characterization of CoCrFeMnNi High Entropy Alloy Oxynitride Thin Film Grown by Sputtering)

  • This study investigates the microstructural properties of CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy (HEA) oxynitride thin film. The HEA oxynitride thin film is grown by the magnetron sputtering method using nitrogen and oxygen gases. The grown CoCrFeMnNi HEA film shows a microstructure with nanocrystalline regions of 5~20 nm in the amorphous region, which is confirmed by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM). From the TEM electron diffraction pattern analysis crystal structure is determined to be a face centered cubic (FCC) structure with a lattice constant of 0.491 nm, which is larger than that of CoCrFeMnNi HEA. The HEA oxynitride film shows a single phase in which constituting elements are distributed homogeneously as confirmed by element mapping using a Cs-corrected scanning TEM (STEM). Mechanical properties of the CoCrFeMnNi HEA oxynitride thin film are addressed by a nano indentation method, and a hardness of 8.13 GPa and a Young's modulus of 157.3 GPa are obtained. The observed high hardness value is thought to be the result of hardening due to the nanocrystalline microstructure.
