Micro-scale Observation of Corrosion of Hot-Dip Aluminized 11% Cr Stainless Steel

  • Hot-dip aluminized coating has been widely used to protect steel substrate against corrosion. In this study, the corrosion behavior of hot-dip aluminized type 409L (11% Cr) stainless steel (SS) was investigated using macro- and micro-scale polarization tests. An Al-Fe-Si alloy layer that was formed due to inter-diffusion of alloying elements between Al coating and SS substrate was observed between Al coating and 409L SS substrate. In both macro- and micro-scale polarization tests, the corrosion potential ($E_{corr}$) of the 409L SS substrate was much nobler than that of the Al coating and alloy layer. $E_{corr}$ of the alloy layer was between that of Al coating and 409L SS substrate. This indicates that the alloy layer can act as a buffer between the more active Al coating and the nobler SS substrate for pit growth in aluminized SS. The presence of the alloy layer appears to be helpful in hindering pitting corrosion of aluminized SS.

철계 반비정질 합금 분말과 VC 분말을 고에너지 전자빔으로 투사하여 제조된 표면복합재료의 미세조직, 경도, 파괴인성 (Microstructure, Hardness, and Fracture Toughness of Surface Composites Fabricated by High-Energy Electron-Beam Irradiation of Fe-Based Metamorphic Alloy Powders and VC Powders)

  • In this study, surface composites were fabricated with Fe-based amorphous alloy powders and VC powders by high-energy electron beam irradiation, and the correlation of their microstructure with hardness and fracture toughness was investigated. Mixture of Fe-based metamorphic powders and VC powders were deposited on a plain carbon steel substrate, and then electron beam was irradiated on these powders without flux to fabricate surface composites. The composite layers of 1.3~1.8 mm in thickness were homogeneously formed without defects and contained a large amount (up to 47 vol.%) of hard $Cr_2B$ and $V_8C_7$ crystalline particles precipitated in the solidification cell region and austenite matrix, respectively. The hardness of the surface composites was directly influenced by hard $Cr_2B$ and $V_8C_7$ particles, and thus was about 2 to 4 times greater than that of the steel substrate. Observation of the microfracture process and measurement of fracture toughness of the surface composites indicated that the fracture toughness increased with increasing additional volume fraction of $V_8C_7$ particles because $V_8C_7$ particles effectively played a role in blocking the crack propagation along the solidification cell region heavily populated with $Cr_2B$ particles. Particularly in the surface composite fabricated with Fe-based metamorphic powders and 30 % of VC powders, the hardness and fracture toughness were twice higher than those of the surface composite fabricated without mixing of VC powders.

  • Ni-20Cr-20Fe-5Nb alloy with or without $Y_2O_3$ was manufactured by mechanical alloying process and consolidated by spark plasma sintering (SPS). The grain size of the alloy with $Y_2O_3$ was smaller than that of alloy without $Y_2O_3$ which results from the effect of $Y_2O_3$ suppressing grain growth. The tensile strength at room temperature was increased by the addition of $Y_2O_3$ but decreased abruptly at temperature above $600^{\circ}C$. It seems to result from the change of deformation mechanism due to fine grain size, that is, grain boundary sliding is predominant at above $600^{\circ}C$ while internal dislocation movement is predominant at below $600^{\circ}C$. After conventional heat treatment process of solution treatment and aging, a small amount of ${\delta}(Ni_3Nb)$ phase was formed in Ni-20Cr-20Fe-5Nb alloy while a large amount of ${\gamma}"(Ni_3Nb)$ was formed in Inconel 718 in the previous report. This is due to exhaustion of Nb content by the formation of NbC during consolidation.

  • LiCl-$Li_2O-O_2$ 용융염계에서 용융염 취급장치의 구조재료를 위한 평가의 일환으로 Inconel 718, X-750, Haynes 75, 263 합금의 부식거동을 분위기온도; $650^{\circ}C$, 부식시간: 24~168h, $Li_2O$농도; 3wt%, 혼합가스농도; Ar-10%$O_2$에서 조사하였다. LiCl-$Li_2O-O_2$ 용융염계에서 부식속도는 Haynes 263 < Haynes 75 < Inconel X-750 < Inconel 718 순서로 나타났으며, Haynes 263 합금이 가장 우수한 내부식성을 나타내었다. Haynes 75의 부식생성물은 $Cr_2O_4$, $NiFe_2O_4$, $LiNiO_2$, $Li_2NiFe_2O_4$, Inconel 718의 부식생성물은 $Cr_2O_4$$NiFe_2O_4$ 이며 Haynes 263은 $Li(Ni,Co)O_2$, $NiCr_2O_4$$LiTiO_2$, Inconel X-750은 $Cr_2O_3$, $NiFe_2O_4$,$FeNi_3$, (Al,Nb,Ti)$O_2$의 부식생성물을 나타내었다. Haynes 263은 국부부식의 거동을 보이는 반면, Haynes 75, Inconel 718 및 Inconel X-750은 전면 부식 거동을 나타내었다.

TiN피막 코팅된 치과주조용 합금의 부식거동 (Corrosion Behaviors of TiN Coated Dental Casting Alloys)

  • Corrosion behaviors of TiN coated dental casting alloys have been researched by using various electrochemical methods. Three casting alloys (Alloy 1: 63Co-27Cr-5.5Mo, Alloy 2: 63Ni-16Cr-5Mo, Alloy 3: 63Co-30Cr-5Mo) were prepared for fabricating partial denture frameworks with various casting methods; centrifugal casting(CF), high frequency induction casting(HFI) and vacuum pressure casting(VP). The specimens were coated with TiN film by RF-magnetron sputtering method. The corrosion behaviors were investigated using potentiostat (EG&G Co, 263A. USA) in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. The corrosion morphologies were analyzed using FE-SEM and EDX. Alloy 1 and Alloy 2 showed the ${\alpha}-Co$ and ${\varepsilon}-Co$ phase on the matrix, and it was disappeared in case of TiN coated Alloy 1 and 2. In the Alloy 3, $Ni_2Cr$ second phases were appeared at matrix. Corrosion potentials of TiN coated alloy were higher than that of non-coated alloy, but current density at passive region of TiN coated alloy was lower than that of non-coated alloy. Pitting corrosion resistances were increased in the order of centrifugal casting, high frequency induction casting and vacuum pressure casting method from cyclic potentiodynamic polarization test.

$Mn_{1-x}Cr_xPt_3$ 박막의 자기 및 자기광학 특성 (Magnetic and Magneto-Optical Properties of $Mn_{1-x}Cr_xPt_3$ Ordered Alloy Films)

  • Mn1-xCrxPt3 합금 박막을 유리기판상에 rf 마그네트론 스퍼터법으로 전이금속(Mn, Cr)과 Pt층을 적층하여 증착한우 열처리함으로써 제조하였다. 제조한 박막들의 소각 및 광각 x-선 회절 분석, 자기 히스테리시스 루우프, 커 스펙트럼을 실온에서 조사했다. 제조한 박막들은 (111)면이 막면에 평행으로 강하게 우선 배향된 AuCu3 형의 규칙합금 구조를 나타냈다. 포화자화는 Cr 치환량(x)이 증가함에 따라 감소하다가 x=0.58 부근에서 영에 가까워진 후 다시 증가하여 x=0.77 이상에서는 거의 일정한 값을 나타냇다. 이것은 페로자성인 MnPt3(x=0)에 Cr을 치환하며, Cr의 자기모멘트가 Mn과 반강자성적으로 결합하여포화자화가 감소하다가 Cr 치환량이 더욱 증가하면 Cr의 기여가 지배적이 되어 다시 증가하기 때문으로 생각된다. MnPt3의 경우에는 자화용이축이 막면에 평행이었으며, Cr 치환량이 증가합에 따라 수직자기이방성이 증가하여 x=0.58 이상에서는 수직자화막이 얻어졌다. 또한, 이 영역에서 Cr 치환량이 증가함에 따라 보자력도 증가하여 x=0.58 이상에서는 수직자화막이 얻어졌다. 또한, 이 영역에서 Cr 치환량이 증가함에 따라 보자력도 증가하여 CrPt3의 경우에는 약 4 kOe의 큰 값을 나타냈다. Cr 치환량에 따른 커 회전각의 변화 추이는 포화지화의 변화 추이와 경향이 유사했다. x=0.77과 x=1의 경우에는 근적외선 영역에서의 커 회전각이 기존의 광자기기록매체인 TbFeCo를 능가했다.

산소 분리를 위한 La0.6Sr0.4Ti0.3Fe0.7O3-δ가 코팅된 Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-δ 이온전도성 분리막에서 Cr 불순물의 온도 의존성 (Temperature Dependence of Cr Impurity in La0.6Sr0.4Ti0.3Fe0.7O3-δ Coated Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-δ Ion Conducting Membrane for oxygen Separation)

  • 높은 산소 분리 특성과 $CO_2$에 대한 안정성을 보인 $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Ti_{0.3}Fe_{0.7}O_{3-{\delta}}$(LSTF)가 코팅된 $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-{\delta}}$(BSCF) 분리막을 bench 규모의 장치에 적용하여 산소 투과 실험을 수행 하였다. 또한 실험실 규모 장치와 bench 규모장치의 분리막 반응기 내 온도 구배에 따라서 분리막을 3영역으로 나누어 각각 비교 분석하였다. $900^{\circ}C$까지 온도 범위에서 산소 투과 실험을 진행하면서 Cr 침적의 온도 의존성을 조사하였다. 그 결과 실험실 장치에서 측정한 산소 투과율인 $3.79ml/min{\cdot}cm^2$에 비해 현저히 낮은 $2.37ml/min{\cdot}cm^2$를 확인했다. 이와 같은 산소 투과율의 감소는 XRD와 SEM/EDS 분석을 통하여 분리막 반응기의 합금 재질에서 방출되어 나온 기상 Cr의 분리막 표면 침적에 의한 것임을 밝혀냈다. 특히 중온 영역에서 많은 양의 Cr이 발견되었다.

리튬용융염계 산화성분위기에서 초합금의 고온 부식거동 (Hot Corrosion Behavior of Superalloys in Lithium Molten Salt under Oxidation Atmosphere)

  • The electrolytic reduction of spent oxide fuel involves the liberation of oxygen in a molten LiCl electrolyte, which is a chemically aggressive environment that is very corrosive for typical structural materials. So, it is essential to choose the optimum material for the process equipment handling molten salt. In this study, corrosion behavior of Haynes 263, 75, and Inconel X-750, 718 in molten salt of $LiCl-Li_{2}O$ under oxidation atmosphere was investigated at $650^{\circ}C\;for\;72\sim360$ hours. At $3\;wt\%\;of\;Li_{2}O$, Haynes 263 alloy showed the highest corrosion resistance among the examined alloys, and up to $8\;wt\%\;of\;Li_{2}O$, Haynes 75 exhibited the highest corrosion resistance. Corrosion products were formed $Li(Ni,Co)O_2,\;LiNiO_2\;and\;LiTiO_2\;and\;Cr_{2}O_3$ on Haynes 263, $Cr_{2}O_3,\;NiFe_{2}O_4,\;LiNiO_2,\;Li_{2}NiFe_{2}O_4,\;Li_{2}Ni_{8}O_10$ and Ni on Haynes 75, $Cr_{2}O_3,\;(Al,Nb,Ti)O_2,\;NiFe_{2}O_4,\;and\;Li_{2}NiFe_{2}O_4$ on Inconel X-750 and $Cr_{2}O_3,\;NiFe_{2}O_4\;and\;CrNbO_4$ on Inconel 718, respectively. Haynes 263 showed local corrosion behavior and Haynes 75, Inconel X-750, 718 showed uniform corrosion behavior.

액중 전기선 폭발법에 의한 Ni-free Fe계 나노 합금분말의 제조: 1. 합금 wire의 직경 및 인가 전압의 영향 (Fabrication of Ni-free Fe-based Alloy Nano Powder by Pulsed Wire Evaporation in Liquid: Part I. Effect of Wire Diameter and Applied Voltage)

  • This study investigated the effect of wire diameter and applied voltage on the fabrication of Ni-free Fe-based alloy nano powders by employing the PWE (pulsed wire evaporation) in liquid, for high temperature oxidation-resistant metallic porous body for high temperature particulate matter (or soot) filter system. Three different diameter (0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 mm) of alloy wire and various applied voltages from 0.5 to 3.0 kV were main variables in PWE process, while X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning microscope (FE-SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM) were used to investigate the characteristics of the Fe-Cr-Al nano powders. It was controlled the number of explosion events, since evaporated and condensed nano-particles were coalesced to micron-sized secondary particles, when exceeded to the specific number of explosion events, which were not suitable for metallic porous body preparation. As the diameter of alloy wire increased, the voltage for electrical explosion increased and the size of primary particle decreased.

Zr계 수소저장합금의 전극특성에 미치는 은 첨가의 영향 (The Effects of Ag Addition on the Electrode Properties of Hydrogen Storage Alloys)

  • The effects of Ag addition to Zr-based hydrogen storage alloys ($Zr_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}V_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.4}$, $Zr_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}V_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.3}Cr_{0.1}$ and $Zr_{0.6}Ti_{0.4}V_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.3}Fe_{0.1}$) on the electrode properties were examined. Ag-free and Ag-added Ze-based alloys were prepared by arc melting, crushed mechanically, and subjected to the electrochemical measurement. In $Zr_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}V_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.4}$ alloy, 0.08 wt% Ag addition to the alloy improved the activation rate. Also Ag addition improved both activation property and discharge capacity in $Zr_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}V_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.3}Cr_{0.1}$. For these Ag-added alloys, discharge capacities with the change of charge-discharge current density(10mA, 15mA and 30mA) are almost constant. Showing very high rate capability, discharge capacity of $Zr_{0.6}Ti_{0.4}V_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.3}Fe_{0.1}$ alloy increased by Ag addition to the alloy. When the amount of Ag addition in $Zr_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}V_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.4}$ alloy increased too much, the electrode properties became worse. Unveiling mechanism of effect of Ag addition is now progressing in our laboratory.
