High Coercive Nd-Fe-B Sintered Magnets for High Temperature Application

  • Various sintered magnets containing $28{\sim}31\;wt%$ Nd and $0{\sim}7\;wt%$ Dy were evaluated for coercivity and irreversible flux loss as a preliminary study to develop highly-coercive, high-temperature magnets that can be applied for driving motors in a hybrid vehicle. The sintered magnets were prepared in sequence of strip casting, HD treatment, jet milling, magnetic field pressing, sintering and post-annealing. Increasing Dy content and adjusting post-annealing temperature monotonically increased coercivity of magnets from about 14 kOe to 30 kOe. A magnet containing 28 wt% Nd and 7 wt% Dy exhibits a $(BH)_{max}$+$_i{H_c}$ value of almost 64. This is very close to what the automobile industry considers as the minimum value (65) for a hybrid vehicle system. Moreover, irreversible flux loss of the magnet was about 3% at $200^{\circ}C$, which is well less than the allowable limit (5%) to a driving motor in hybrid vehicles.

Characteristics of Phosphorus Accumulation in Rotation System of Plastic Film House and Paddy Soils (시설재배지에서 윤답전환체계가 인산분포에 미치는 영향)

  • Much of the plastic film house soils in the southern part of the Korean peninsula are managed using a upland-paddy rotation culture system (hereafter, RS) to prevent salt accumulation in soil. However, information on the effects of RS on soil properties and environmental conservation is limited. In order to determine the effects of RS on soil properties, 22 fields under RS and 20 fields under a non-rotation system (hereafter, NRS) in plastic film houses were selected in Chinju, in southern Korea, and the P distribution characteristics were investigated, including the chemical properties. The RS contributed to the removal of water-soluble salts in the surface layer and to the redistribution of organic matter evenly in the soil profile. In the AP horizon, available phosphorus levels were $1,611mg\;kg^{-1}$ in RS and $1,789mg\;kg^{-1}$ in NRS, which markedly exceeds the optimum range for plant cultivation. Total P was lower in RS (average $4,593mg\;kg^{-1}$) than in NRS (average $5,440mg\;kg^{-1}$) and this decrease was taken to be an effect of RS. Inorganic P was the predominant form of P in both systems, followed by organic P and residual P. A soil profile showed that total and inorganic P concentrations decreased with depth in both systems. However, organic P increased withdepth in RS, which was in contrast to that noted in NRS. The increase in organic P with depth in RS implied that organically rather than inorganically derived phosphate moved through the soil. The concentrations of water-soluble P, Ca-P and Al-P were higher in NRS than in RS soil profiles, but the Fe-P concentration was higher in RS than in NRS, which might be affected by the anaerobic conditions found in paddy soils. In both systems, the Al-P form of extractable P predominated in the surface layer, followed by Ca-P, Fe-P and water-soluble P. With increasing depth, the composition rate of Ca-P to extractable P decreased to less than 10% in the 60-70cm depth, as Fe-P dominated at this level. The content of water-soluble P, potentially the main source of eutrophication, was higher in NRS than in RS. These results indicated that the RS used in plastic film houses contributed to the removal of water-soluble salts but only slightly decreased the phosphate concentration.

Design and Implementation of a File System that Considers the Space Efficiency of NVRAM (비휘발성 메모리의 공간적 효율성을 고려한 파일 시스템의 설계 및 구현)

  • Nonvolatile memory technology is evolving continuously and commercial products such as FeRAM and PRAM are now challenging their markets. As NVRAM has properties of both memory and storage, it can store persistent data objects while allowing fast and random access. To utilize NVRAM for general purpose storing of frequently updated data across power disruptions, some essential features of the file system including naming, recovery, and space management are required while exploiting memory-like properties of NVRAM. Conventional file systems, including even recently developed NVRAM file systems, show very low space efficiency wasting more than 50% of the total space in some cases. To efficiently utilize the relatively expensive NVRAM, we design and implement a new extent-based space-thrifty file system, which we call NEBFS (NVRAM Extent-Based File System). We analyze and compare the space utilization of conventional file systems with NEBFS and validate the results with experimental results observed from running the file system implementations on a system with actual NVRAM installed as well as on systems emulating NVRAM. We show that NEBFS has high space efficiency compared to conventional file systems.

Brake Squeal Noise Due to Disk Run-out (디스크 런아웃에 기인한 브레이크 스퀼소음)

  • This paper deals with a squeal noise in a brake system. It has been proved that the squeal noise is influenced by the angular misalignment of a disk, disk run-out, with the previously experimental study. In this study, a cause of the noise is examined by using FE analysis program(SAMCEF) and numerical analyses with a derived analytical equation of the disk based on the experimental results. The FE analyses and numerical results show that the squeal noise is due to the disk run-out as the experimental results and the frequency component of the noise equals to that of a disk's bending mode arising from the Hopf bifurcation.

  • The flange hub is a main component of an automotive steering system. Dimensional precision of the flange hub is very important for precise control of the steering force. Consequently, the process design for precision forming of a flange hub is required. The teeth of the flange hub are generally formed by bending. In this study, the formability of flange bending was investigated using FE simulations. For the optimum process conditions, the flange is bent by movement of an insert die, and the die angle and bending length are selected as $90^{\circ}$ and 4mm respectively.

  • The flow characteristics under recirculation cool vent mode is numerically studied using commercial fluid dynamic code(CFX). For the reliable analysis, real vehicle and human FE model is employed in grid generation process. The geometrical location and shape of panel vent, and exhaust vent is set as that of real vehicle model. The flowrate of the working fluid is determined as 330CMH which is equivalent to 70 percent of maximum capacity of HVAC system. The high velocity regions are formed around 4 each panel vent. Because of the non-symmetrically located exhaust, non-uniform flow and partial backflow near the door trim is observed. Streaklines start from each panel vent show the flow pattern of the airflow in the passenger's compartment very well.

  • A voice-coil-type LOA consists of the NdFeB permanent magnets with high specific energy as the stator, a coil-wrapped nonmagnetic hollow rectangular structure, and an iron core as a pathway for magnetic flux. When applying a voice-coil-type LOA to the control system, we have to obtain the control parameters and circuit parameters, such as mass, coil inductance, coil resistance, thrust voltage & stroke, frequency & stroke and so on. Therefore, these parameter were determined from the analytical and experimental method.

  • Linear motor damper(LMD) for vibration control of structure is consisted of the NdFeB permanent magnets with high specific energy as the stator, a coil-wrapped nonmagnetic hollow rectangular structure and an iron core as a pathway for magnetic flux. The active mass of LMD is 1.5 ton and consisted of permanent magnet and iron yoke. In this paper, LMD system is manufactured and tested for dynamic characteristics and frequency response.

The Study on Dyeing Fastness of Colouring Matter extracted in Arrowroot Leaf on the Mordants (매염제 처리에 따른 칡 잎 색소의 염색견뢰도에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the dyeability and color fastness of cotton and silk fabrics dyed with extract of Arrowroot leaf princeps. The experimental items were divided into the mordant treatment, component of fabric and kind of mordants. The experimental study was done by laundering, abrasion(dry/wet), perspiration(acid/alkali), light fastness, color difference by C.C.M system and K/S test. The summerized finding reulted from experiment and investigation are suggested as follows : In the C.C.M and K/S test on mordanting method and kind of fabric, that of silk and cotton was the most effective in the pre mordant treatment. In the C.C.M and K/S analysis on 5 mordants, that of silk and cotton was significantly improved when mordants was treatmented. Especially, that of Fe mordanting treatment was higher than Al, Cu, Cr and none. In color fastness on mordants, laundering, perspiration and abrasion fastness showed 4-5 grade but light fastness showed 1-3 grade.
