Recently as the inactive response characteristics of the existing RCD used on low voltage power distribution system, so control of overload and electric short circuit faults, major causes of electrical fires, are not enough. Therefore, this paper confirms the unreliability of the existing RCD by electrical fault simulator and proposes a EFDPD by using semiconductor switching devices and a high precision current sensor (namely, reed switch) for the prevention of electrical disasters in low voltage power distribution system caused by overload or electric short circuit faults. The sensitive reed switch in the proposed EFDPD exactly detects the increased magnetic flux with the overload or the short current caused by a number of electrical faults, and the following, the self circuit breaker in EFDPD rapidly cuts off the system. The proposed EFDPD confirms the excellent characteristics in response velocity and accuracy in comparison with the conventional circuit breaker through various operation performance analysis. The proposed EFDPD can also prevent electrical disasters, like as electrical fires, which resulted from the malfunction and inactive response characteristics of the existing RCD.

Because the types and severities of most engine faults are various and complex, it is not easy that the conventional model based fault detection approach like the GPA(Gas Path Analysis) method can monitor all engine fault conditions. Therefore this study proposed newly a diagnostic algorithm for isolating and diagnosing effectively the faulted components of the smart UAV propulsion system, which has been developed by KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute), using the fuzzy logic and the neural network algorithms. A precise performance model should be needed to perform the model-based diagnostics. The based engine performance model was developed using SIMULINK. For the work and mass flow matching between components of the steady-state simulation, the state-flow library was applied. The proposed steady-state performance model can simulate off-design point performance at various flight conditions and part loads, and in order to evaluate the steady-state performance model their simulation results were compared with manufacturer's performance deck data. According to comparison results, it was confirm that the steady-state model well agreed with the deck data within 3% in all flight envelop. The diagnosis procedure of the proposed diagnostic system has the following steps. Firstly after obtaining database of fault patterns through performance simulation, then secondly the diagnostic system was trained by the FFBP networks. Thirdly after analyzing the trend of the measuring parameters due to fault patterns, then fourthly faulted components were isolated using the fuzzy logic. Finally magnitudes of the detected faults were obtained by the trained neural networks. Because the detected faults have almost same as degradation values of the implanted fault pattern, it was confirmed that the proposed diagnostic system can detect well the engine faults.

In this paper, we present and analyze a method of applying a machine learning to ultrasonic test signals for constant monitoring of the welding faults in a tubular steel tower. For the machine learning, feature selection based on genetic algorithm and fault signal classification using a support vector machine have been used. In the feature selection, the peak value, histogram lower bound, and normal negative log-likelihood from 30 features are selected. Those features clearly indicate the difference of signals according to the depth of faults. In addition, as a result of applying the selected features to the support vector machine, it has been possible to perfectly distinguish between the regions with and without faults. Hence, it is expected that the results of this study will be useful in the development of an early detection system for fault growth based on ultrasonic signals and in the energy transmission related industries in the future.
Some deep faults do not reach the ground surface and are seldom recognized. Gokgang Fault area in the east of the Heunghae area of the Pohang basin has been selected to confirm the feasibility of the Horizontal-to-Vertical Spectral Ratio (HVSR) approach to identify blind faults. Densely spaced microtremor data have been acquired along two lines in the study area and processed to obtain resonance frequencies. An empirical relationship between the resonance frequency and the bedrock depth was proposed using borehole data available in the study area. Resonance frequencies along two lines were then converted to bedrock depths. The resulting depth profiles show significant lateral variations in the bedrock depth. As expected, considerable variation in the resonance frequency is observed near the Gokgang fault. The depth profiles also present additional significant variations in the resonance frequencies and the bedrock depths. The feature is presumably related to a blind fault that is previously unknown. Therefore, this case study confirms the feasibility of the HVSR technique to identify faults otherwise not recognized on the surface.

Mostly in motor fault detection the instantaneous values 3 axis vibration and 3phase current in time domain are acquired and converted to frequency domain. Vibrations are more useful in diagnosing the mechanical faults and motor current has remained more useful in electrical fault diagnosis. With having some experience and knowledge on the behavior of acquired data the electrical and mechanical faults are diagnosed through signal processing techniques or combine machine learning and signal processing techniques. In this paper, a single-layer LSTM based condition monitoring system is proposed in which the instantaneous values of three phased motor current are firstly acquired in simulated motor in in health and supply imbalance conditions in each of three stator currents. The acquired three phase current in time domain is then used to train a LSTM network, which can identify the type of fault in electrical supply of motor and phase in which the fault has occurred. Experimental results shows that the proposed single layer LSTM algorithm can identify the electrical supply faults and phase of fault with an average accuracy of 88% based on the three phase stator current as raw data without any processing or feature extraction.

Triple modular redundancy (TMR) systems can continue their mission by virtue of their structural redundancy even if one processor is attacked by faults. In this paper, we propose a new fault tolerance strategy by introducing checkpoints into the TMR system in which data saving and fault detection processes are separated while they corporate together in the conventional checkpoints. Faults in one processor are tolerated by synchronizing the state of three processors upon detecting faults. Simultaneous faults occurring to more than one processor are tolerated by re-executing the task from the latest checkpoint. We propose the checkpoint placement and fault detection strategy to maximize the probability of successful execution of a task within the given deadline. We develop the Markov chain model for the TMR system having the proposed checkpoint strategy, and derive the optimal fault detection and checkpoint interval.
The Pungcheon-myeon, Andong, consists mainly of Precambrian metamorphic rocks, Jurassic igneous rocks, Cretaceous sedimentary rocks (Hasandong, Jinju and Iljik Formations) and Cretaceous igneous rocks (gabbroic rocks, dykes), in which several major faults are developed; Andong fault of ENE trend, which is the boundary fault of the Cretaceous Gyeongsang Basin and the Precambrian-Jurassic basement (Yeongnam Massif), Namhu fault parallel to it, Maebong fault of NNW direction, bow-shaped Gwangdeok fault of ENE direction which is convex toward SSE direction, and Hahoe fault of NNE direction. This paper is researched the geological structures around these major faults by means of the detailed geometric analysis on beddings, joints, faults and drag folds. As a result, a reverse slip faulting of top-to-the SSE movement accompanied with a regional drag folding is recognized from the arrangement of bedding poles measured around the Gwangdeok and Hahoe faults at its northeastern extension, and a zone of Gwangdeok drag fold of 150-300 m width, which is wider at the central and eastern parts of Gwangdeok fault and narrower at its western part and Hahoe fault, is also defined. It indicates that the Hahoe and Gwangdeok faults are a single fault and their movements are coeval unlike the results of earlier reasearchers. And, In this area are recognized two types of faults [(E)NE${\sim}$EW(fault I), WNW${\sim}$NNW (fault II), trending faults] and four types of joints [EW (I), (N)NW (II), NNE (III), NE (IV) trending joints]. These fractures were formed at least through four different events, named as Dn to Dn+3 phases. (1) Dn phase; the formation of joint (I) (Gwangdeok joint) and the intrusion of acidic dykes of EW trend under the compression of EW direction. (2) Dn+1 phase; the formations of joint (II) (Maebong joint), lens-shaped boudinage of acidic dykes, oblique-slip reverse fault (Fault I-Gwangdeok fault) under the compression of (N)NW direction, and the formation of regional zone of Gwangdeok drag fold accompanying the Gwangdeok faulting. (3) Dn+2 phase; those of joint (III), Fault II (Maebong fault) by dextral strike-slip movement of Maebong joint under the compression of NNE direction, and the extension cutting of Dn+1 structures due to the Maebong faulting. (4) Dn+3 phase; the jointing (IV) and the reactivation of Fault II as oblique-slip type with predominant dextral motion which took place under the compression of NE direction. It also suggests that the Maebong fault is not a tear fault deveolped during thrust tectonics of the Andong and Gwangdeok faults but is a post-fault during different tectonic event.
A DEM (digital elevation model) is produced using a digital topographic map and is now a commonly used tool in geologic surveys. This study aimed to clarify the relationship between knickpoints and faults in the Namdae stream by analyzing a DEM of the area. The Namdae drainage basin was divided into three subbasins (S1, S2 and S3) and their knickpoints developed for the middle to mid-upper regions were extracted from the DEM. The relative steepness Ks and concavity depending on the incision rate was higher in S1 than in S2 and S3 regions. We assumed that the incision rate caused by active erosion resulted from several faults crossing the basins rather than differences in rock types. There are 77 knickpoints in the Namdae drainage area, including the low-ranking branch, and 24 of thses are on the main river system (S1, S2, S3). Of these 77 knickpoints, 27 (38%) are matched by faults, and from the three basins, 13 (54%) correspond with faults, indicating that the knickpoints are connected closely with the faults. For example the average Ks (relative steepness), was 38.8, but in the overlapping area of the Samdang and Doocheon faults the Ks value was 42.99~43.39. We suggest that the faults resulted in geomorphic deformation such as the high-Ksn knickpoints. There was little evdence of relationship between the knickpoints and rock boundaries, with 54% of the knickpoints distributed on the S1, S2, and S3 subbasins. We concluded that the drainage basin knickpoints are the result of fault movement and are a type of geomorphologic deformation that could be useful for surveying Quaternary faults or fault extension.

The reliability of computer software is of prime importance for all developers of software. The complicated nature of detecting and removing faults from software has led to a plethora of models for reliability growth. One of the most basic of these is the Jelinski Moranda model, where it is assumed that there are N faults in the software, and that in testing, bugs (or faults) are encountered (and removed when defected) according to a stochastic process at a rate which at a given point in time is proportional to the number of bugs remaining in the system. In this research, we consider the possibility that imperfect repair may occur in any attempt to remove a detected bug in the Jelinski Moranda model. We let p represent the probability that a fault which is discovered or detected is actually perfectly repaired. The possibility that the probability p may differ before and after release of the software is also considered. The distribution of both the number of bugs detected and perfectly repaired in a given time period is studied. Cost models for the development and release of software are investigated, and the impact of the parameter p on the optimal release time minimizing expected costs is assessed.

In this paper, the method of processing a blurred noisy signal has been researched. The conventional method of processing signal has faults, which are slow-convergence speed and long time-consuming process at the singular point and/or in the ill condition. There is the process, the Gauss-Seidel's method to remove these faults, but it takes too much time because it processes signal repeatedly. For overcoming the faults, this paper shows a signal process method which takes shorter than the Gauss-Seidel's by comparing the Gauss-Seidel's with proposed algorithm and accelerating convergence speed at the singular point and/or in the ill condition.
