  • Recently, fault injection techniques are used for evaluation of the fault coverage properties of safety-critical systems. This paper describes the TCN Fault Injector(TFI) implemented for TCN safety analysis. The implemented TFI injects network level faults to Intelligent MVB Controller that is designed for the Korean High Speed Train. With TFI, it can be verified whether the MVB controller meets TCN specification and its safety requirements.

  • Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks are attracting considerable research interest because of their scalability and high performance relative to cost. One of the important services on a P2P network is the streaming service. However, because each node in the P2P network is autonomous, it is difficult to provide a stable streaming service on the network. Therefore, for a stable streaming service on the P2P network, a fault-tolerant scheme must be provided. In this paper, we propose two new node selection schemes, Playback Node First (PNF) and Playback Node first with Prefetching (PNF-P) that can be used for a service migration-based fault-tolerant streaming service. The proposed schemes exploit the fact that the failure probability of a node currently being served is lower than that of a node not being served. Simulation results show that the proposed schemes outperform traditional node selection schemes.

  • The advent of very large scale integration(VLSI) has had a tremendous impact on the design of fault-tolerant circuits and systems. The increasing density, decreasing power consumption, and decreasing costs of integrated circuits, due in part to VLSI, have made it possible and practical to implement the redundancy approaches used in fault-tolerant computing. The purpose of this paper is to study the many aspects of designing fault-tolerant systems in a VLSI environment. First, we expound upon the opportunities and problemes presented by VLSI technology. Second, we consider in detail the importance of design mistakes, common-mode failures, and transient faults in VLSI. Finally, we examine the techniques available to implement redundancy using VLSI and the problems associated with these techniques.

  • An MTBF(mean time between failures) of large scale parallel systems is known to be only an order of several hours, and large computations sometimes result in a waste of huge amount of CPU time, However. the MPI(Message Passing Interface), a de facto standard for message passing parallel programming, suggests no possibility to handle such a problem. In this paper, we propose an application-level fault tolerant computation system, purely on the basis of the current MPI standard without using any non-standard fault tolerant MPI library, that can be used for general scientific synchronous parallel computation.

  • BACnet(Building Automation and Control networks) is a standard data communication protocol designed specifically for building automation and control systems. BACnet provides BACnet/IP Protocol for data communication through the internet. BACnet device transmits BACnet broadcast messages and BACnet/IP messages using conventional IP technologies. Specially, BBMD(BACnet Broadcasting Management Device) is used to deliver BACnet broadcast messages. In this study, we propose a mechanism of fault tolerant BBMD in the BACnet/IP protocol. The Fault Tolerant BBMD mechanism(FTBM) improves the connectivity of BACnet/IP networks by inheriting the operation of BBMD in the networks. The FTBM is implemented with added functions to the original BACnet/IP protocol so that it can be applied together with original BACnet/IP devices. We also prove the FTBM's backward compatibility with original BACnet/IP protocol using experimental analysis.

  • In a large scale parallel computation, some processor or communication link failure results in a waste of huge amount of CPU hours. However, MPI in its current specification gives the user no possibility to handle such a problem.   • 동적인 이동 네트워크는 다중의 무선 Ad-hoc 네트워크들로 구성된 독립적인 WPAN(Wireless Personal Network)이 모인 이동 네트워크의 한 종류이다. 휴대폰과 같은 모바일 장치들이 동적인 이동 네트워크에서 모바일 라우터로 동작하기 때문에 트래픽 과부하, 네트워크 신뢰도, 에너지 소모율 등의 네크워크 fail과 관련된 문제점 들이 제시된다. 따라서 동적인 이동 네트워크에서 fault tolerant 메커니즘은 필수적인 이슈가 될 것이다. 본 논문에서는 빠른 경로 변경 메커니즘과 추가적인 모바일 라우터 선정 메커니즘을 이용하여 향상된 fault tolerant 메커니즘을 제시한다. 최종적으로 모의실험을 통해 에너지 소모율과 패킷 손실 측면에서의 효율성을 보여줄 것이다.

  • The residue number system offers the possibility of high-speed operation and error detection/correction because of the separability of arithmetic operations on each digit. A compact residue arithmetic module named the self-checking pulse-train residue arithmetic circuit is effectively employed as the basic module, and an efficient error detection/correction algorithm in which error detection is performed in each basic module and error correction is performed based on the parallelism of residue arithmetic is also employed. In this case, the error correcting circuit is imposed in series to non-redundant system. This design method has an advantage of compact hardware. Following the proposed method, a 2nd-order recursive fault-tolerant digital filter is practically implemented, and its fault-tolerant ability is proved by noise injection testing.

  • This paper considers the problem of adaptive fault-tolerant guaranteed cost controller design via dynamic output feedback for a class of linear time-delay systems against actuator faults. A new variable gain controller is established, whose gains are tuned by the designed adaptive laws. More relaxed sufficient conditions are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), compared with the corresponding fault-tolerant controller with fixed gains. A real application example about river pollution process is presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
