  • Earthquakes occur as a cluster in many regions around the world where complex fault systems exist. The repeated shaking usually induces accumulative damage to affected structures. Damage accumulation in structural systems increases their level of degradation in stiffness and also reduces their strength. Many existing analytical tools of modeling RC structures lack the salient damage features that account for stiffness and strength degradation resulting from repeated earthquake loading. Therefore, these tools are inadequate to study the response of structures in regions prone to multiple earthquakes hazard. The objective of this paper is twofold: (a) develop a tool that contains appropriate damage features for the numerical analysis of RC structures subjected to more than one earthquake; and (b) conduct a parametric study that investigates the effects of multiple earthquakes on the response of RC moment resisting frame systems. For this purpose, macroscopic constitutive models of concrete and steel materials that contain the aforementioned damage features and are capable of accurately capturing materials degrading behavior, are selected and implemented into fiber-based finite element software. Furthermore, finite element models that utilize the implemented concrete and steel stress-strain hysteresis are developed. The models are then subjected to selected sets of earthquake sequences. The results presented in this study clearly indicate that the response of degrading structural systems is appreciably influenced by strong-motion sequences in a manner that cannot be predicted from simple analysis. It also confirms that the effects of multiple earthquakes on earthquake safety can be very considerable.

  • Before applying the HTS(High Temperature Superconductor) power devices to a real utility network, system analysis should be carried out by some simulation tools. PSCAD/EMTDC simulation tool is one of the most popularized useful analysis tools for electrical power system. Unfortunately the model component for HTS coil is not provided in PSCAD/EMTDC simulation tool. In this paper, EMTDC model component for HTS coil has been developed considering real characteristics of HTS coil like critical current, temperature and magnetic field. The developed model component of HTS coil could be used for power system application. Using the developed model component for HTS coil, we can easily do the simulation of HTS power devices application test in utility with the various inductance, quench current, inner magnetic field, and temperature values, for instances; SMES(Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage) system, superconducting motor, transformer, and FCL(Fault Current Limiter)

  • We simulated insulation defects of stator winding wire on high voltage generator by 5 types. 4 types have one discharge source and other one has multi discharge source by simulation. For accurate decision, measurements used to PRPD pattern to occurred partial discharge source of various types. In this research, when PRPD pattern carried out or analyzed pattern recognition of discharge source, it used to powerful tools. In this result, PRPD Pattern defined to have single discharge source of 4 types by insulation defect. When insulation defect simulated, all the defected winding have not the same result. Errors for a little different can make mistakes from a subtle distinction. The difference between internal and void discharge have magnitude of pulse amplitude of inner discharge bigger than void discharge and have a shape of bisymmetry. But void discharge has a shape of bisymmetry against maximum value on polarity respectively. In cases of slot and surface discharge, we confirmed to show similar results those other researchers. In case of multi-discharge, as a result of we could classify not perfect match with occurred patterns in single discharge eachother. In the future, we will have to recognize and classify with results of multi-discharge.

  • Dissolved gas analysis (DGA) is one of the most widely used diagnostic tools for detecting and evaluating faults in electrical equipment. However, interpretation of DGA results is often complex and should always be done with care, involving experienced insulation maintenance personnel. KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Cooperation) has been using DGA technique since KEPCO established the criteria of DGA in 1985. In this paper, we introduce the DGA criteria of KEPCO and analyze the result of DGA. Also we sort pattern in result of DGA. Then, relation between pattern and inner inspection was studied. 67 DGA data was used for analyzing pattern. Some patterns have something to do with cause of incipient fault.

  • Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of critical infrastructure comprises a major pillar of maintenance management, shielding public safety and economic sustainability. Although SHM is usually associated with data-driven metrics and thresholds, expert judgement is essential, especially in cases where erroneous predictions can bear casualties or substantial economic loss. Considering that visual inspections are time consuming and potentially subjective, artificial-intelligence tools may be leveraged in order to minimize the inspection effort and provide objective outcomes. In this context, timely detection of sensor malfunctioning is crucial in preventing inaccurate assessment and false alarms. The present work introduces a sensor-fault detection and interpretation framework, based on the well-established support-vector machine scheme for anomaly detection, combined with a coalitional game-theory approach. The proposed framework is implemented in two datasets, provided along the 1st International Project Competition for Structural Health Monitoring (IPC-SHM 2020), comprising acceleration and cable-load measurements from two real cable-stayed bridges. The results demonstrate good predictive performance and highlight the potential for seamless adaption of the algorithm to intrinsically different data domains. For the first time, the term "decision trajectories", originating from the field of cognitive sciences, is introduced and applied in the context of SHM. This provides an intuitive and comprehensive illustration of the impact of individual features, along with an elaboration on feature dependencies that drive individual model predictions. Overall, the proposed framework provides an easy-to-train, application-agnostic and interpretable anomaly detector, which can be integrated into the preprocessing part of various SHM and condition-monitoring applications, offering a first screening of the sensor health prior to further analysis.

  • Monitoring technology of machining has a long history since unmanned machining was introduced. Despite the long history, many researchers have presented new approaches continuously in this area. Sound based machine fault diagnosis is the process consisting of detecting automatically the damages that affect the machines by analyzing the sounds they produce during their operating time. The collected sound is corrupted by the surrounding work environment. Therefore, the most important part of the diagnosis is to find hidden elements inside the data that can represent the error pattern. This paper presents a feature extraction methodology that combines various digital signal processing and pattern recognition methods for the analysis of the sounds produced by tools. The magnitude spectrum of the sound is extracted using the Fourier analysis and the band-pass filter is applied to further characterize the data. Statistical functions are also used as input to the nonlinear classifier for the final response. The results prove that the proposed feature extraction method accurately captures the hidden patterns of the sound generated by the tool, unlike the conventional features. Therefore, it is shown that the proposed method can be applied to a sound based automatic diagnosis system.
