미국 패션전문 일간지 WWD에 드러난 한국 패션산업에 대한 인식 (How the Korean Fashion Industry is Viewed by WWD USA)

  • 국가와 산업의 이미지가 제품 평가에 영향을 미치고 있다는 것은 주지의 사실이지만, 그러한 영향력의 경로가 되는 매체에 관한 연구는 부족하다. 본 연구는 미국의 대중매체에 드러난 한국의 패션산업 이미지가 한국의 패션제품을 평가하는데 영향을 미칠 것이라는 기본 가정하에, 한국 패션산업의 어떤 측면이 독자들에게 부각되고 있는지를 규명하고자 하였다. 미국의 명성 있는 패션전문 일간지인 WWD(Women's Wear Daily)를 선택하여 한국 패션산업과 관련된 내용분석을 시도하였다. 1998년 1월 1일부터 2008년 6월 30일까지 게재된 기사 중 "Korean" 이라는 단어를 포함한 기사를 우선적으로 검색하고 패션분야와 관련된 기사 총 329개를 최종적으로 선택하여 분석하였다. 섬유공급망 관리 상의 역할별로 분석 범주를 설정하고, 한국 패션산업이 공급망 상에서 어떤 역할을 담당하는 주체로 부각되고 있는지 살펴 보았다. 그 결과, 한국의 패션산업은 섬유와 원단공급업자, 혹은 의류제조업자로서의 역할을 담당하는 것으로 인식되는 경우가 많았다. 이는 역사적으로 한국이 미국의 패션산업의 주요 소싱국가였던 이력을 반영하는 결과이다. 디자인, 브랜딩, 마케팅, 소매유통업을 담당하는 역할자로서 한국 패션산업을 바라보는 관점은 상대적으로 미약하였다. 또한, 한국 패션산업은 패션에 관심이 많고 세계의 유명 고가 브랜드 제품을 소비할 수 있는 의미 있는 시장을 보유하고 있는 것으로 높게 인식되고 있는 반면 한국 패션산업은 거시 경제의 환경 변화에 따라 경기변동을 펴는 취약점이 있음이 부각되기도 하였다.

백화점 판매원의 목표지향성과 성과에 미치는 판매관리자의 영향: 패션제품 판매원을 중심으로 (The Effects of Supervisors on Goal Orientations and Sales Performance of Department Store Salespeople)

  • This study investigated the effects of sales supervisors on salespeople's goal orientations and sales performance in fashion retail setting. Specifically, it examined: 1) the differences in salespeople's goal orientations by salespeople characteristics; 2) the effects of supervisor's behavioral orientations on goal orientations of salespeople; and 3) the effects of salespeople's goal orientations on performance. A total of 343 questionnaires collected from salespeople in various apparel and accessory selling departments at four department stores in Korean were analyzed. Variables included supervisor's behavioral orientations(end-results, activity and capability), salespeople's goal orientations(learning and performance), sales performance and salespeople characteristics. MANOVA revealed that three was no difference in goal orientations by salespeople characteristics except by selling department. Multiple regression analysis revealed that supervisor's end-result orientation affected salespeople's learning orientation and performance orientation while activity and capability orientations did not. The study suggests that for long-term performance supervisors and retail organizations need to develop various supervisory behaviors, stimulate learning demands of salespeople, and provide training programs to achieve the learning goal.

Revitalizing Department Store Shopping Value and In-store Experiences: A Case Study on Debenhams and Selfridges

  • Traditional department stores have been struggling to attract customers for several years. Many retail stores have closed in recent years, even before the COVID-19 pandemic. The reinvention of in-store shopping value and experience is imperative to attract customers and reinvigorate retail business. The purpose of this study was to discover which in-store components can improve customer experiences and loyalty while also identifying dissatisfaction issues in consumer experiences in department stores. The data was collected from two consumer groups-luxury department store (Selfridges) customers and mid-market department store (Debenhams) customers-to identify the types of value and experiences they seek most often. The findings showed that to enhance their store patronage, Debenhams should reposition their brand image in a way that allows customers to connect with their self-image and lifestyle by improving efficiency and convenience and prioritizing the utilitarian and social value types. By contrast, Selfridges should enhancetheir store atmosphere, visual merchandising and sensory experiences by maximizing slow retailing experiences and emphasizing the aspirational self-concept image for symbolic and hedonic value. This research uncovered the existence of numerous overlappingvalue dimensions, each of which contributed to the enhancement of the others. Several young customers expressed their support for ecologically responsible, cost-effective second-hand luxury products. Instead of focusing merely on conventional value dimensions, department retailers should determine how environmental and ethical objectives can be fulfilled. This study explained how department stores can craft their in-store environments to appeal to their customers' preferred value types to ensure success in a competitive market.

Preliminary Evidence for the Psychophysiological Effects of a Technological Atmosphere in E-Commerce

  • As information and communication technologies (ICTs) become more advanced, consumers are able to experience retailing activities such as searching for products and services in online retail shops and for Internet-exclusive branded contents. Specifically, fashion retailers are facing the need to develop more novel experiential design than one another to maximize customers' experience in Internet websites and secure sustainable competency. Confirming methods of organic integration of experiential and visual features of both online and mobile channels is an important aspect of the study of extended consumers' interfaces of retail channels. Mehrabian and Russell's stimulus-organism-response (S-O-R) paradigm and Sugiyama and Andree's attention, interest, search, action, and share (AISAS) model were used for this research. Specifically, the present study considered the effect of e-commerce website features on consumers' emotional reactions (pleasure and arousal) and the consequent impact on online consumer behaviors (search, action, and share). Hence, plus the self-reported survey methods, each subject's psychophysiological indicators (i.e., pleasure and arousal) were measured to obtain more objective and reliable data and to redeem the results of the self-reported survey. Findings revealed the implications of the e-commerce website feature by comprehending the S-O-R paradigm and AISAS model and extending the understanding of the role of variables associated with comprehended frameworks based on psychophysiological data.

우리나라 의류상품 소매유통구조의 변화요인과 방향 (제1보) (Factors and Directions of the Change of the Apparel Retail Structure in Korea (Part I))

  • The purposes of this study are to investigate the formation and the change of apparel retail structure historically with the viewpoint that the retail structure is affected by the process of economic development. This study was done by literature research method and the result of this study is the following. The tailor and seamstress shops, the first clothing shops in Korea, were replaced by ready-made shops, because mass production system which had developed with the industrialization of Korea increased the advantage of economy of scale compared to handicrafts individual one. After that, the production system of apparel industry had been efficient continuously, while retail system had not. The retailing of famous brand apparel conducted by exclusive franchise store caused supplier oriented markets where the opinion and the desire of consumers were not reflected. While the retailing of the unknown brand apparel handled by small retail stores were inefficient. As the apparel industry matured in 1990s, various types of new stores appeared such as specialty stores, discount stores, TV home shopping, internet shopping, outlet malls, and big fashion stores in Dongdeamoon. These new stores have features of seeking profits in mass merchandising. As these large retail stores grow, the apparel retail structure of Korea is changing from a fragmented market to a vertically integrated one. This change is shown by the decrease of stores per inhabitants. With the change of environment, the apparel retail system which has lagged behind comparatively is expected to develop into more efficient system based on the large capital investment which raise the advantage of economy of scale.

Effect of Workplace Characteristics on Part-Time Apparel Sales Associates' Turnover Intentions

  • This study focused on the development of a conceptual model of the turnover intention of part-time sales associates in apparel retailing. A convenience sample of 294 college students who were part-time apparel workers was used to test the model. In this proposed model, organizational support and growth opportunity indirectly influenced turnover intention through work engagement, which in turn positively affected work effort, job performance, and job satisfaction. The results also revealed a direct relationship between work/role stress and burnout, which influenced turnover intention. These findings make a unique contribution to the extant literature and enable development of relevant strategies by apparel retailers.

Male Generation Y Consumers: Online Apparel Shopping and E-satisfaction

  • To date most of the research concerning e-service quality in the context of online apparel settings has had a female or a generalized for gender and age focus. To expand the scope of understanding of online consumers, this study focuses on the key dimensions of e-service quality which affect male Generation Y consumers' e-satisfaction which in turn may affect their e-loyalty. A convenience sample of male college students was recruited from a Korean university. The findings of this study showed that privacy, personalization, efficiency, and website design were the key dimensions that have significant positive relationships with e-satisfaction. The positive relationship between e-satisfaction and e-loyalty was also confirmed. Managerial implications and suggestions for further research are further discussed.

온라인 의복구매를 위한 소비자 정보탐색의 경로분석적 탐구 (A Path Analytic Exploration of Consumer Information Search in Online Clothing Purchases)

  • 본 연구는 온라인 의사결정과정에서 온라인 쇼핑속성, 정보원 및 구매의도와 관련된 소비자 정보탐색의 경로모델을 밝히고자 하였다. 연구대상은 미국 남서부지역의 대학교에 재학중인 대학생으로 표본으로 설문조사 하였으며, 총 219명의 이용 가능한 자료가 수집되었다. 자료분석을 위해 요인분석과 LISREL8.53을 이용하여 경로분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 소비자의 온라인 의복구매를 위한 정보원은 온라인 정보원, 소매점 정보원, 대중매체의 세 가지 유형으로 분류되었다. 특히, 온라인 의복구매를 위해 소매점 정보원(점포내 디스플레이, 제조업체의 팜플렛 또는 카달로그)을 더 많이 이용하는 것으로 나타났다. 추정된 경로모델을 살펴보면, 온라인 쇼핑속성의 중요도가 정보탐색에 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 특히 온라인 의복 구매시, 소비자의 온라인 정보원 이용은 거래관련속성 즉 구매유인서비스(incentive service)에 의해 가장 크게 영향을 받는 반면, 소매점 정보원 이용은 심미성, 가격 등의 제품 및 시장관련속성의 중요도에 의해 더 크게 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 소비자의 세가지 탐색유형 모두 구매의도에 정적인 효과를 보이고 있었으며, 다른 정보원에 비해, 소매점 정보원 이용이 온라인 의복구매의도에 가장 큰 효과를 보였다. 따라서, 본 연구는 온라인 쇼핑속성별 소비자의 차별화된 정보탐색 패턴이 온라인 구매의도를 증가시키고 있음을 확인함으로써, 의류제품의 멀티채널 소매전략(Multi-channel retailing) 방향이 논의되었다.

동대문시장의 구매자-공급자 관계에 관한 탐색적 연구: 동대문 패션 점포의 구매자적 시각을 중심으로 (Exploratory Study on Buyer-Supplier Relationship in Dongdaemun Market: From Buyer Perspectives of Fashion Stores)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 동대문시장의 패션점포와 상품 공급자와의 관계를 이해하는 것이다. 구매자-공급자 관계에 영향을 미치는 요인을 구매자-공급자 관계 요인과 공급자 속성으로 분류하고 신뢰, 몰입, 의사소통, 장기적 전망, 파워 균형, 지리적 근접성, 디자인 능력, 품질, 낮은 가격, 납기 준수의 총 10개 변수를 추출하였다. 패션점포가 어떤 요인을 더 중요하게 인식하고 있는지 그리고 점포특성에 따라 그 중요성 인식에 차이가 있는지 살펴보았으며 공급자와의 거래지속기간에 영향을 미치는 요인을 규명하였다. 동대문 패션점포 233개로부터 수집한 자료를 분석한 결과, 공급자와의 관계에서 가장 중요하다고 응답한 변수는 납기 준수였으며 그 다음이 지리적 근접성, 디자인 능력 등으로 나타나 구매자-공급자 관계 요인보다는 공급자 속성이 더 중요한 것으로 지각되고 있었다. 점포 특성에 따라 중요도 인식에 차이가 있었는데, 신흥 소매 상권의 점포들이 다른 상권 점포들에 비해 모든 변수들의 중요도를 낮게 인식하고 있었으며 도매위주 점포가 소매위주 점포보다 고매출 점포가 저매출 점포보다 모든 변수를 더 중요하게 지각하였다. 총 영업기간에 따라서는 일부 변수에서 장기 영업점포가 단기 영업점포보다 더 높은 중요도 지각을 보였다 거래지속기간에 영향을 미치는 요인을 알아보기 위해 우선 주로 거래하는 점포를 상기 10개 변수로 평가하게 하였는데, 지리적 근접성 신뢰, 디자인 능력, 품질, 의사소통 순으로 높게 평가되었다. 회귀분석 결과 실제 거래해 온 기간에 영향을 미치는 변수는 디자인 능력, 의사소톰, 파워 균형이었으며, 향후 추가로 기대하는 거래기간에 영향을 미치는 변수는 의사소통과 신뢰로 나타났다.

RJCC 연구 키워드 네트워크 - 동시출현단어분석과 군집분석 - (Keyword networks in RJCC research - A co-word analysis and clustering -)

  • A trend analysis of research articles in a field of knowledge is significant because it can help in finding out the structural characteristics of the field and the future direction of research through observing change in a time series. We identified the structural characteristics and trends in text data (keywords) gathered from research articles which in itself is an important task in various research areas. The titles and keywords were crawled from research articles published from 2016 to 2018 in the Research Journal of the Costume Culture (RJCC), one of the representative Korean journal in the field of clothing and textile. After we extracted data comprising English titles and keywords from 195 published articles, we transformed it into a 1-mode matrix. We used measures from network analysis (i.e., link, strength, and degree centrality) for evaluating meaningful patterns and trends in the research on clothing and textile. NodeXL was used for visualizing the semantic network. This study observed change in the clothing and textile research trend. In addition to covering the core areas of the field, the subjects of research have been diversifying with every passing year and have evolved onto a developmental direction. The most studied area in articles published by the RJCC was fashion retailing/consumer psychology while aesthetic/historic and fashion industry/policy studies were covered to a more limited extent. We observed that most of the studies reflecting the identity of RJCC share subject keywords to a significant extent.
