Purpose: This research aims to examine gender preferences for men and women advertising models in Saudi advertisements. Saudi Arabia is known as one of the most gender-segregated society in the world, and it has gender-specific roles, characteristics, and behaviors that are undesirable for the other gender. Methodology: The questionnaire was developed with the help of earlier studies on perceptions towards advertising models and validated by a jury of experts and focus groups. The gender preferences for ten product categories (including automobiles, baby care products, cigarettes, cosmetics for women, fashion, food & beverages, motorcycles, personal care for men, personal care for women, sporting goods) were examined for men and women models. Similarly, three personal preferences characteristics for both genders (face beauty, voice quality, and Islamic dress), two characteristics for women models (body shape, femininity), and two characteristics for men models (height-weight balance, masculinity) were examined for men and women models separately. Finally, a survey was conducted to solicit responses from respondents (N=412). Findings: Results indicated significant gender preferences for gender-specific product categories and typical gender stereotypes in advertising models. Men models were preferred in men-specific products, and women models were required in women-specific products. Some product categories (including personal care for men and sporting goods) were ranked higher for men advertising models, while for women advertising models, other product categories (including personal care for women and cosmetics for women) were ranked higher. Masculinity was ranked highest as the preferred personal characteristic for men advertising models, while voice quality was highest for women advertising models. Finally, there is a significant difference between the preferred personal characteristic for men and women advertising models for three characteristics, including face beauty, Islamic dress, and masculinity and femininity. Implications: Saudi Arabia is a unique society with predominantly unique cultural dominance. Consequently, local culture greatly influences advertisements. It has stereotyped gender roles even in advertisements. This study will establish a baseline for further research on the subject area.
This objectives of this research was to look into the actual state of fashion wearing purchase and makeup purchase to recognize the interrelationship between fashion and makeup styles by selecting words used for fashion image and cosmetic style. Such study can offer basic materials for choice of makeup style by each fashion style. Most information on fashion and cosmetics were obtained through the internet. However, a lot of information on cosmetics were also obtained through TV. Therefore, if fashion companies use both internet and TV for advertising, more effect on purchasing might be obtained. The design and color are important standards for selecting clothes. However, the quality and price of clothes are essential standards for purchasing cosmetics. Therefore, for fashion companies, they need to pay more attention to design and color. However, for cosmetic companies, they need to take notice of quality and price. When image words were extracted, fashion images showed the following words: natural, romantic, elegance, casual, and avant-garde, while makeup images showed romantic-casual, elegance, avant-garde, and natural. Regarding the interrelationship between fashion style and makeup style, natural and casual fashion style were harmonized with natural makeup while romantic fashion style was associated with romantic makeup. The fashion style of elegance and avant- garde was associated with elegance makeup. Therefore, similar images were found between fashion and makeup styles.
This study was intended to identify the persuasion effects according to social proof message type and product type in the context of online cosmetic advertising. For the experiment, 4 stimuli were developed as experimental stimuli for the 2(social proof message type: attitudinal social proof message, behavioral social proof message)${\times}$2(product type: hedonic product, utilitarian product) factorial design. A total of 160 questionnaires allocating forty students to each group were distributed. The results were as follows. First, behavioral social proof message showed more effective than attitudinal social proof message in advertisement attention, click-through intention and purchase intention. Second, utilitarian product showed more effective than hedonic product in advertisement attention, click-through intention and purchase intention. Third, there was interaction effect according to social proof message type and product type on the aspect of click-through intention.

This phenomenological study is to understand the meaning and essence of experience from the perspective of a New Yorker. Participants were 11 Korean single women around 30 years old who work as fashion designers or advertising designers living and working in New York. Data were collected from November, 2013 to February, 2014, and one-to-one in-depth interviews were performed for data collection. Data analysis used the descriptive phenomenological method proposed by Giorgi. Phenomenological research is useful to understand the meaning of the experience for select cases and is used as an epoch and free variation method. The study results were identified from 70 common meanings to 14 exposed themes and 4 essentially themes from a gentile New Yorker's experience. The 4 essential themes were as follows. 1) Self-realization at the highest stage, 2) Indulge in the advanced culture of affluence and freedom, 3) Collapsing every day in depressed foreign workers, and 4) Becoming a rootless gentile New Yorker.
This study presents a marketing communication strategy from the aspect of new consumption orientation. Consumer preference on ads media, on-line ads media, and WOM usage were examined for new consumption orientation groups. This study was executed in a question survey format. A total of 182 questionnaires were obtained and data were analyzed by PASW 18.0 and AMOS 7. The results were as follows. First, 8 types of consumption orientation factors were revealed; 'impulsive purchase', 'promotion oriented', 'social contribution', 'passive conformity', 'innovative', 'conspicuous', 'rational', and 'environmental conservation'. Then 4 groups were formed, 'Rational & Positive', 'Conspicuous Conforming', 'Positive Social Interested' and 'Low Price Oriented'. Second, communication responses were analyzed through consumption orientation groups. The 'Rational & Positive' group responded positively to every type of advertising media (especially new media). The 'Conspicuous Conforming' and 'Positive Social Interested' groups preferred traditional media such as TV, radio, and magazines; in addition, the 'Low Price Oriented' group liked only online banner ads. For WOM preference, the 'Rational & Positive' and 'Positive Social Interested' group preferred verbal consumer information like WOM. In distribution types, the just 'Positive Social Interested' group revealed a significant result for internet shopping malls. The results from this study will help establish marketing communication strategies based on the features of consumption orientation.
Image of Modern Art & Fashion are created on the whole in daily life. Image itself is not simple. There is no more distinction between content & form through mutual crossing for intellectual thinking. Specially, image of reproduction circumstance too many mixtual and compromise (collage) are continued to occur. They could pursuit to change their image through the more increase of impulse, exception and popular experience. In this thesis, I studied about image of Modern fashion & Art. In the modern art, visual image showed as anti-beauty and combination of cultural system. It has shown in the theory of Fred Davis and through fashion brand advertising image as follows; Youth vs maturity (ageless image), male s female and androgynous vs unisexuality (genderless image), colligation vs monopoly (street mode image). As a results, the modern trend image are showing the value of the ambivalence. It can be said that he anti-beauty which are occasionally showed in ambivalence has shown a tendency toward another tradition (feminity) through giving an impulse and paradox.
Recently, issues on the environment, which have become key bottlenecks relative to sustainable economic development, have generated common concern. However, relatively scant research has been devoted to consideration of relations between consumers' environmental concern, green fashion advertisement value, and green consumption. In this study, using structural equation modeling (SEM), effects of environmental concern, perceived green fashion advertisement value, and attitude towards green fashion advertisements, on ecological purchases and their interrelationships are investigated. A model is constructed to link aforementioned constructs. Data, was collected through a questionnaire-based online survey (www.sojump.com) of 260 Korean consumers and 260 Chinese consumers. Findings suggest that environmental concern can improve their perception of green advertisement value. One of the findings showed strong positive relationship among green advertisement value, positive attitude, and purchase intention towards green fashion advertisement, while environmental concern negatively influenced their attitude towards green fashion advertisements. It suggests that if companies adopt green advertising strategies, environmentally-conscious consumers are willing to pay more, to purchase green fashion goods in to satisfy their needs. We should put more effort in educating consumers about environmental issues, to raise the level of environmental awareness and satisfy their concerns relative to green fashion goods. Conversely, there is significant positive relationship with the moderating effect of consumers' nationality in all paths, so results above would make significant contributions to green literature, and would also contribute to advertisement strategy implications as well. Especially fashion marketers, an use accurate and fair environmental claims in their advertisements to increase sale and profits.
This study investigated the effect of emotional appeals on consumers' attitude towards fair trade apparel advertisements, and their intention to purchase those fair trade apparels. The interaction effect of the advertising channel and the mediation effect of perceived consumer effectiveness(PCE) were examined. Four stimuli were manipulated using two types of emotions(positive/negative) and two types of advertising channels(magazine/SNS) were used to analyze consumers' reaction. The results demonstrated the significant differences in attitude towards ads and purchase intention according to the types of emotional appeals used in fair trade apparel ads. However, the interaction effect between the types of emotion and advertising channels was not identified. The results of mediation analysis showed that positive emotion influenced purchase intention directly without forming a favorable attitude towards the ads, whereas negative emotion had no significant influence on attitude towards the ads and purchase intention. The results also identified that PCE mediated between emotion elicited by ads and purchase intention. This study suggests that delivering images and messages that creates positive emotion should be considered when fair trade ads are produced. In addition, fair trade ads need to be devised to enhance PCE by emphasizing that ethical choices of individual consumers can change the working environment of manufacturing countries.
In this study, based on the postmodern feminism were investigated in the non-fashion areas of painting, advertising and fashion areas. And, fashion illustrations were analyzed visually in the aspect of the essentialism and deconstructivism that constitute the postmodern feminism. In addition, it was examined how women images were expressed in fashion illustrations that reflected the postmodern feministic ideas. The research results first, in fashion illustrations were the essen tialistic women images were grouped in the opening of women bodies and actively emphasize. the opening of women bodies were expressed bodies the fetishistic, ecstatic images, actively emphasize features were expressed the sexual, and realistic images. Secondly, and fashion illustrations the deconstructivistic women images were grouped androgynous features, genderous features, the distorted feminine gender features, complex features. androgynous features were expressed the powerful, grotesque, humorous, androgynous image, that genderous features of immature, boyish image, that the distorted feminine gender features of simple, ethnic, techno-cyber image, that complex features of complex images.
This study is to develop marine fashion items for various marine leisure activities based on the identity of Busan. Motifs from the fireworks festival and image colors of Busan are introduced for the items. A prototype design to express uniqueness and characteristics of fireworks was produced with a line combination among design modeling factors and applied to T-shirt item for comfort use in the marine leisure activity and daily life. T-shirt is one of fashion items for a message communication due to a unique modeling which can be used an excellent advertising item for the culturel identity and image of Busan. Designs were produced with the characteristics of fireworks in which circular shapes of a chrysanthemum, ring, and peony designates as motif 1, 2, 3 as well as linear shape of Niagara, fan shape, and tiger-tail as motif 4, 5, and 6. These designs were located on the front, central chest, and left chest in the T-shirts then analyzed by major students in the course of master and doctor of clothing and textiles with statistical methods. A design with new coloring preferred than the design of a symbolic construction, and circular design on the front and linear design on the left chest were preferred in the results. Prototypes were produced with peony and tiger-tail design which show a high corelation between circular and linear shape, and coloring as well as high purchasing needs. This study results will expect to use for the development of advertising items for the various events of Busan based on the textile design and fashion items with the identity of Busan.
