The inlet boundary condition of computations about the supersonic turbine flow is commonly applied as far-field inlet boundary condition with specified velocity. However, the inflow condition of supersonic turbine is sometimes affected by the shocks or expansion waves propagated from leading edges of blade. These shocks and expansion waves alter the inlet boundary condition. In this case, the inlet boundary condition can not be specified Therefore, in this paper, numerical analyses for three different inlet conditions - fa-field inlet boundary condition, inlet boundary condition with a linear nozzle and inlet boundary condition with a converging-diverging nozzle - have been performed and compared with experimental results to solve the problem. It is found that the inlet condition with a linear nozzle or a converging-diverging nozzle can prevent changing of inlet boundary condition, and thus predict more accurately the supersonic flow within turbine cascade than a far-field inlet boundary condition does.

The dynamic response and seismic damage of single-layer reticulated shells in the near field of a rupturing fault can be different from those in the far field due to the different characteristics in the ground motions. To investigate the effect, the dynamic response and seismic damage of this spatial structures subjected to two different ground motions were numerically studied by nonlinear dynamic response analysis. Firstly, twelve seismic waves with an apparent velocity pulse, including horizontal and vertical seismic waves, were selected to represent the near-fault ground motion characteristics. In contrast, twelve seismic records recorded at the same site from other or same events where the epicenter was far away from the site were employed as the far-fault ground motions. Secondly, the parametric modeling process of Kiewitt single-layer reticulated domes using the finite-element package ANSYS was described carefully. Thirdly, a nonlinear time-history response analysis was carried out for typical domes subjected to different earthquakes, followed by analyzing the dynamic response and seismic damage of this spatial structures under two different ground motions based on the maximum nodal displacements and Park-Ang index as well as dissipated energy. The results showed that this spatial structures in the near field of a rupturing fault exhibit a larger dynamic response and seismic damage than those obtained from far-fault ground motions. In addition, the results also showed that the frequency overlap between structures and ground motions has a significant influence on the dynamic response of the single-layer reticulated shells, the duration of the ground motions has little effects.

Real-time near and far-field monitoring of concrete structural components gives enough information on the time and condition at which damage occurs, thereby facilitating damage detection while in the same time evaluate the cause of the damage. This paper experimentally investigates an integrated monitoring technique for near and far-field damage detection in concrete structures based on simultaneous use of electromechanical admittance technique in combination with guided wave propagation. The proposed sensing system does not measure the electromechanical admittance itself but detect time variations in output voltages of the response signal obtained across the electrodes of piezoelectric transducers bonded on surfaces of concrete structures. The damage identification is based on the spectral estimation MUSIC algorithm. Experimental results show the efficiency and performance of the proposed measuring technique.
We study a conceptual numerical model on shock-vortex interaction setting an impulsive shock in a compressible vertex. Navier-Stokes equations are solved for the investigation of interactive structure and acoustic wave propagation. The rotationally symmetric vortex enforces two compression-expansion pairs resultantly forming a quadrupolar shape. These compressive and expansive waves cylindrically propagate to the far field and turn to acoustic waves. Using a fine uniform Cartesian grid system and a TVD-high resolution method, the flow data irl: precisely obtained to extend our interest to the sound source.
This paper investigated the practical use for measuring the structural intensity (power flow per width of cross section) in a uniform semi-infinite beam in flexural vibration. The structural intensity is obtained as a vector at a measurement point, One-dimensional structural intensity can be obtained from 4-point cross spectral measurement, or 2-point measurement on the assumption of far field. The measurement errors due to finite difference approximation and phase mismatch of accelerometers are examined. For precise measurements, it would be better to make the value of k$\delta$(wave number x space between accelerometers) between 0.5 and 1.0. Formulation of the relation between bending waves in structures and structural intensity makes it possible to separate the wave components by which one can get a state of the vibration field. Experimental results are obtained from 2- and 4-point measurement performed at 200mm (near field) and 400mm (far field) apart from excitation point in random excitation. the results are compared with the theoretical values and measured values of input power spectrum in order to verify the accuracy of structural intensity method, 2-point method is suggested as the practical structural intensity method.
An asymptotic solution of electromagnetic waves scattered by an arbitrary-angled dielectric wedge in the E-polarized plane wave incidence is obtained by adding a correction to the physical optical fields given in the previous paper of these companion papers, Part I. The source for the asymptotic correction field valid in the far-field region can be equivalent to the multipole line sources at the tip of the wedge, of which coefficients are evaluated numerically by solving a dual series equation. The corrected field patterns are plotted for the typical case treated in Part I.
Acoustic pressure field around the centrifugal fan is predicted by a aero-acoustic splitting method. Unsteady flow field is obtained by solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations using commercial code, while the acoustic waves generated inside the centrifugal fan and shroud are predicted by solving the far field acoustics analysis. Computational results show that the acoustic waves of BPF tone are generated by interactions of the blades with the shroud. Acoustic results is validated by experimental results This paper describes the influence of geometric parameters on the noise generation from the section of blades and shroud. One of the effective ways to reduce BPF noise is optimization method using Genetic Algorithm, which effectively minimize eccentricity, is suggested. New improving design was developed by optimization method.
