  • Side roads on campus areone of the important factors affecting campus landscape and quality. So far, side roads have appeared irregularly and have been main causes for disrupting the campus landscape. The purpose of this study was to investigate side roads in three university campuses using Space Syntax and ERAM model and to find some typical characteristics of the campus in three universities: Kyungpook National University, Yeungnam University, and Keimyung University. Kyungpook National University and Yeungnam University had 68 and 64 places respectively showing a high frequency of side roads, while Keimyung University had only 13 side roads, a much lower frequency. Side roads, surveyed on site, appeared to be concentrated in some regions, and side roads were analyzed to have different frequencies and location depending on their specific function and characteristics, though roads have similar sizes and areas.

  • Secondary-side transfer phenomena of primary-side surge voltage in concentric-cylindrical transformers of a high turn-ratio still present a problem in transformer insulation design even in the case of a neutral solid-grounding type. The conventional methods of analyzing them so far are much complicated for practical applications. Therefore, this paper describes a new approach to the analysis of secondary-side transfer phenomena of surge in concentric-cylindrical transformers of high turn-ratio and solid-grounding type. This generalized approach is thought to be more simple with the use of minor network concepts than the conventional one by major network only. The result shows that the secondary-side transfer phenomena of surge voltage could not be neglected even in concentric-cylindrical transformer of high turn-ratio and solid-grounding type, and will be satisfactorily applicable to the design of neutral-solid-grounding type transformers.

  • For a shunt power quality controller (SPQC) the DC side voltage value which is closely related to the compensation performance is a significant parameter. Buy so far, very little discussion has been conducted on this in a quantitative manner by previous publications. In this paper, a method to design the DC side voltage of SPQC is presented according to the compensation performance in the single-phase system and the three-phase system respectively. First, for the reactive current and the harmonic current compensation, a required minimal value of the DC side voltage with a zero total harmonic distortion (THD) of the source current and a unit power factor is obtained for a typical load, through the equivalent circuit analysis and the Fourier Transform analytical expressions. Second, when the DC side voltage of SPQC is lower than the above-obtained minimal value, the quantitative relationship between the DC side voltage and the THD after compensation is also elaborated using the curve diagram. Hardware experimental results verify the design method.

  • Two different methods were used for the scattering analysis of side-drilled holes(SDH). The scattering models include an explicit model based on the Kirchhoff approximation and the solution of the exact separation of variables. The far-field scattering amplitude was calculated and their time-domain results were compared for the case of shear vertical wave. The exact solution predicts the existence of the creeping wave. The Kirchhoff approximation agreed to the exact solution, except the case of the creeping wave. Two measurement models were introduced to predict the response from the SDHs for the case of immersion, pulse-echo testing. The received voltage was calculated for the case of the shear vertical waves with the incident angle of $45^{\circ}$ to the SDH with the diameter of 1mm, and compared with the experimental results.

  • Phytochrome A (phyA) and phytochrome B (phyB) perceive light and adapt to fluctuating circumstances by different manners in terms of effective wavelengths, required fluence and photoreversibility. Action spectra for induction of seed germination and inhibition of hypocotyl elongation using phytochrome mutants of Arabidopsis showed major difference. PhyA is the principal photoreceptor for the very low fluence responses and the far-red light-induced high irradiance responses, while phyB controls low fluence response in a red/far-red reversible mode. The structural requirement of their bilin chromophores for photosensory specificity of phyA and phyB was investigated by reconstituting holophytochromes through feeding various synthetic bilins to the following chromophore-deficient mutants: hy1, hyl/phyA and hyl/phyB mutants of Arabidopsis. We found that the vinyl side-chain of the D-ring in phytochromobilin interacts with phyA apoprotein. This interaction plays a direct role in mediating the specific photosensory function of phyA. The ethyl side-chain of the D-ring in phycocyanobilin fails to interact with phyA apoprotein, therefore, phyA specific photosensory function is not observed. In contrast, both phytochromobilin and phycocyanobilin interact with phyB apoprotein and induce phyB specific photosensory functions. Structural requirements of the apoproteins and the chromophores for the specific photoperception of phyA and phyB are discussed.

  • This is a research on the method of how to improve lateral stability for the small general aviation airplane to meet the FAR part 23 requirements. This research is based on the experience of certification flight tests of KC-100 airplane for Korea first type certification. KAS/FAR Part 23.177 is the static lateral and directional stability requirement. And, 23.177(b) requires to show the tendency to raise the low wing in steady heading side slip maneuver. However, it is very difficult for the low wing to be raised at the low speed during the steady heading side slip maneuver. So, the requirement allows not be negative at the $1.2V_{S1}$ speed and takeoff configuration. (static stability requirement requires low wing picked up at any speed except $1.2V_{S1}$ speed and takeoff configuration) In this paper, the static lateral stability requirements and the lessons & learned of KC-100 airplane certification flight test results are shown.

  • When performing Chest x-ray examination to pregnant woman, normally we shield back side of abdomen. In this situation, scattered rays made by equipment and surrounding structure can enter front side of abdomen. Therefore, in this study, we evaluate suitability of abdomen shield especially to pregnant woman. In case of One shielding material placed back of abdomen, the measured value is $0.676{\pm}0.19uSv/hr$. Two shielding material is $0.764{\pm}0.04uSv/hr$. Three is $0.685{\pm}0.16uSv/hr$. The exposure dose inferred in this study does not excess annual effective dose limit. But It is not mean absolute safety. So we have to minimize occurrence of stochastic effect of radiosensitivity by shielding front side of abdomen of pregnant woman in clinic.

  • The unique feature of pervaporation is the mass transfer from a liquid phase to a vapor phase through a non-porous polymeric membrane. When a liquid mixture is brought into contact with a membrane at one side, it is sorbed into the membrane. Due to a driving force applied across the membrane, the sotbed liquid molecules permeate through the membrane and evaporate at the downstream side of the membrane. In pervaporation the permeated species are usually removed from the downstream side under a relatively low vapor pressure, for example by evacuation with a vacuum pump. As far as this condition is fulfilled, the evaporation step can be considered to be much faster than sorption or diffusion. Hence evaporation does not contribute to permselectivity. Therefore the separation by pervaporation results from the differences in the preferential sorption of the individual components of a mixture into the membrane together with the diffusion rates through the membrane. This postulation implies that both sorption and diffusion phenomena have to be accounted for to understand the physico-chemical nature of the pervaporation separation process.

  • This paper propose a heuristic method that divides the block into some work regions to operate stacking cranes efficiently in a automated container terminal where the blocks with non-crossing stacking cranes(SC) are laid out in perpendicular to the quay. Typically, fund over between SCS and trucks occur at each side if the blocks, and each if the landside and seaside SCS is responsible for the jobs that occur at its own side. When a container to be fetched is located far from fund over point, the SC should move a long distance and the interference between the two cranes am occur, which decreases the productivity of the SCS. Therefore, our method divides the block into two exclusive and one shared regions and let the containers located far from their fund over points to be transferred to the shared region by the other side crane before they are carried out. Although simple this method am reduce the crane movement and the interference between the two cranes. Simulation experiment shows that our proposed method significantly improves the productivity if the container terminal than previous heuristic that does not divide work regions.

  • Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) signals were used for corrosion inspection of buried oil and gas pipeline. 3D finite element analysis was used to examine the effects of far and near-side pit depth and tensile stress on MFL signals. Anisotropci materials were used, and the effects of simulated tensile stress on MFL were investigated. The axial and radial MFL signals depended on far and near-side single pit depth and on the bulk stress, but the circumferential MFL signal did not depend on them. The axial and radial MFL signals increased with increasing pit depth and the bulk stress, but the circumferential MFL signal was scarcely changed.
