Fatigue test is an essential procedure in the dynamic structure design. It is performed to confirm that the structure should safety the required life. In this study, fatigue life for 750㎾ class horizontal axis wind turbine composite blade was investigated. Required fatigue stress was calculated by fan Bond's empirical equation and S-N linear damage method. Fatigue load for FEM analysis was calculated using load spectrum through experiments and Spera's method. Service fatigue stress was obtained by FEM with the calculated fatigue load. From comparison of the fatigue stresses, fatigue life over 20 years was confirmed.
This paper described performance test of 1st prototype "Tail-Fan" system. KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) developed "Tail-Fan" system as a kind of helicopter anti-torque system(ATS) and designed ATS performance test-rig for Tail-Fan system performance test. For Tail-Fan system performance tests, firstly, test-rig operation tests were carried out for verification of design specifications. And natural frequencies of fan blade and test-rig were measured respectively. To find the operation rotating speed for performance tests, vibration tests using accelerometers on tail gear box(TGB) were carried out. Through the fanplot and vibration test results, rotational speed for Tail-Fan performance test to avoid a resonance were found and performance tests were carried out in flight conditions. We analyzed test data by non-dimensionalization. Through this results, 1st prototype "Tail-Fan" system was satisfied with design requirements.

The axial fan is an element of a blower used for ventilation in various industrial fields. Many studies on aerodynamic performance have been conducted to assess axial fans using fluid dynamics. The subject was a large axial fan size, 1800 mm in diameter with 100 horsepower. The blower's axial fan consisted of blades, hubs, hub caps, and bosses are important components. The blade design has a great influence on the aerodynamic performance. 3D point data is extracted using an aerodynamic performance prediction program, and a 3D modeling shape is generated. The blades and hubs, which are important components, can be easily modified if processed by cutting owing to the environment in which blades and hubs are manufactured through die casting or gravity casting. In this study, the structural safety of components and the analysis results of weak areas at the rated operating speed of the axial fan were verified using the maximum stress and safety factor. The tip clearance reflected in the design was the rotation of the blade. To check whether there is interference with other components, the displacement result was derived to verify the structural safety of the axial fan.
This study represents three-dimensional turbulent flow characteristics around an axial fan measured at the operating point ${\varphi}=0.32$, which is equivalent to the maximum flowrate region, by using three-dimensional fiber-optic type LDA system. This LDA system is composed of a 5 W Argon-ion laser, two optics in back-scatter mode, three BSA's, a PC, and a three-dimensional automatic traversing system. A kind of paraffin fog is used for laser particles in this study. Mean velocity profiles around an axial fan along the downstream radial distance show that the streamwise and the tangential components exist as a predominant velocity and have the maximum value at the radial distance ratio 0.8, while the radial component has a small scale distribution and its flow direction is inward except a part of blade tip. The turbulent intensity profiles show that the radial component exists the most greatly. And also the turbulent kinetic energy shows about 60% as a maximum value at the radial distance ratio 0.9. Moreover, the Reynolds shear stresses do not exist at upstream flow, but the streamwise and the radial components of them show about 20% as a maximum value at the radial distance ratio 0.9 at downstream flow.
A cross-flow fan is generally used on the region within the low static pressure difference and the high flow rate. It relatively makes high dynamic pressure at low rotating speed because a working fluid passes through an impeller blade twice and blades have a forward curved shape. At off-design points, there are a rapid pressure head reduction, a noise increase and an unsteady flow. Those phenomena are remarkably influenced by the setting angle of a stabilizer. Therefore, it should be considered how the setting angle of a stabilizer affects on the performance and the flow fields of a cross-flow fan. It is also required to investigate the effect of the volumetric flow rate before occurring stall. Two-dimensional, unsteady governing equations are solved using a commercial code, STAR-CD, which uses FVM. PISO algorithm, sliding grid system and standard k - ε turbulence model are also adopted. Pressure and velocity profiles with various setting angles are graphically depicted. Furthermore, the meridional velocity profiles around the impeller are plotted with different flow rates for a given rotating speed.

The frequency characteristics in an axial flow fan operating at a design and three off-design operating conditions have been investigated by measuring the velocity fluctuation of a tip leakage vortex and a wake flow. Two hot-wire probe sensors rotating with the fan rotor. a fixed and a moving ones, were introduced to obtain a cross-correlation coefficient between two sensors as well as the fluctuating velocity. The results show that the spectral peaks due to the fluctuating velocity near the rotor tip are mainly observed in the reverse flow region of higher flow rates than those in the peak pressure operating condition. However, no peak frequency presents near the rotor tip for near stall condition. Detailed wake flow just downstream of the rotor blade was also measured by the rotating hot-wire sensor. The peak frequency of a high velocity fluctuation due to Karman vortex shedding in the wake region is mainly observed at the higher flow rate condition than that in the design point.
The computational flow analysis using LES technique was carried out to investigate the flow characteristics of a sirocco fan under the maximum flowrate condition. The commercial SC/Tetra software was used for this unsteady and three-dimensional numerical analysis. In consequence, because a flow is unstable within the range of about 50% of a housing depth from a bellmouth around the cutoff region, the passing flow through the blade cascade occurred on the X-Y plane is a slow or a reverse with approaching to the housing inlet. Also, the secondary flow shows on the radial plane of a housing, and its vortex center exists within about 33% of a housing depth from a bellmouth except the cutoff region. Moreover, the flow occurring on the exit plane of a sirocco fan shows a complex secondary flow.
Three-dimensional vortical flow and separated flow topology near the casing wall in an axial flow fan having two different tip clearances have been investigated by a Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) flow simulation. The simulation shows that the tip leakage vortex formed close to the leading edge of the blade tip on suction side grows in the streamwise direction. On the casing wall, a separation line is formed upstream of the leakage vortex center due to the interference between the leakage vortex and main flow. The reverse flow is observed between the separation line and the attachment line generated downstream of the trailing edge, and increased with enlarging tip clearance. The patterns of a leakage velocity vector including a leakage flow rate are also analyzed according to two tip clearances. It is noted that the understanding of the distribution of a limiting streamline on the casing wall is very important to grasp the characteristics of the vortical flow in the axial flow fan.
Whole flow fields of a room air conditioner (RAC) have been visualized by a Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique to analyze the flow structure by various inlet and outlet angles, and to control an eccentric vortex which affects an efficiency and noise of the RAC. A test model with 5 stages of a cross flow fan has been manufactured and a transparent acryl has been installed at the side of the test model for the PIV experiment. The inlet and outlet flows and the flow inside the cross flow fan have been analyzed by varying the inlet grill angles and outlet blade angles. The movement of the eccentric vortex has been investigated experimentally by developing the measurement technique for the inner flow field of the cross flow fan, and the relationship between the control of the eccentric vortex and the inlet and outlet angles has been confirmed in this study.

Recently as the environmental noise getting influential social problem, it is the fact that the demand on noise reduction increases with the advance of the standard of living. Therefore increasing the interest on the noise in common, it is eagerly demanded that the endeavour for reducing the noise of the rotating machinery, especially the machinery related a flowing including the household electric products, which is pointed out the primary noise source in environment. As proceeding study for fan noise, theory of fan noise property is arranged and this control method is shown. Blade passage noise of total noise spectrum. Thus in the aspect of noise reduction, noise source and identification of noise radiation characteristics of axial flow fan are demanded in detail. The sound source is analyzed by using sound pressure and sound intensity. In that time, synchronization of axial flow fan using optical sensor is executed, and to identify the location of exact noise source in the fan profile determination of recording time is proposed. In the rotating of tan, it is explained that the location of noise source exists in and by the directivity, the noise radiation pattern of axial flow fan is determined and the flow of sound is visualized in the figure of contour mapping.
