The purpose of this study was to compare urban and rural seniors' perceptions on the eight aspects of the World Health Organization Age-Friendly Cities (AFC) initiative on Jeju Island, South Korea. Face-to-face interviews using structured questionnaires were administered to 497 persons aged 65+ living on Jeju Island. Findings suggested that urban and rural held significantly different perceptions on five aspects of AFC (outdoor space and buildings, housing, civic participation and employment, community support and health services, and respect and social inclusion). Predictors of overall AFC score for all participants included age and living in a single-family home. Among urban dwellers, monthly household income and length of residence predicted AFC score while among rural seniors, predictors of AFC included educational attainment. To make communities more age-friendly, perspectives of older residents should be sought, shared, and reflected in policy and different strategies and priorities should be developed specific to urban and rural areas.
Remanufacturing used, end-of-life products is a complex problem involving multiple types of products that may share common parts. Recovery targets assigned by market demand and environmental legislation add more difficulty to the problem. Manufacturers now need to achieve specified take-back and recovery rates while fulfilling demands for remanufactured products. To assists in the demand- and legislation-driven remanufacturing of a family of products (i.e., multiple products that share common parts), this paper introduces a bi-objective mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model for optimizing remanufacturing. The model identifies optimal remanufacturing plans for a product family, whereby, the remanufacturer can achieve demand and recovery targets more profitably and in an environmentally-friendly manner. The model can also be used to quantify and justify the economic and environmental benefits of a product family from a remanufacturing perspective. A case study is presented for remanufacturing an alternatorfamily of products.

This research has studied the people's perception and understanding of the 'Healthy Family Act' that has been enacted and practised from the year 2005. For this purpose, a survey has been conducted during October 2004 in several central and local cities in Korea, including Seoul, and a total of 741 samples have been used for the final analysis. The results of this study is as follows. The participants showed a very low level of recognition of the 'Healthy Family Act', and they Perceived that establishing a home-friendly atmosphere was of primary importance among the tasks that should be conducted by the State and local governments to encourage 'healthy families' The participants chose 'supporting the mental & physical health of family members' for the government supporting programs to make healthy families, and chose 'healthy life cultures such as clothes, food, and housing' for the government programs to support the everyday living cultures of the people. 1 Two thirds(2/3) of the participants indicated a willingness to participate in voluntary activities, and more than half of the participants said that they will participate in educational programs. Also, the participants indicated that divorce counselling should be offered only to the people who want the counselling, and as far as 'contents' are concerned, the participants indicated that 'the upbringing of children' should be the most important subject of the counselling. Finally, the participants indicated a willingness of participating educational programs in the order of parent education, family ethics education, realization of family values and family life education.

This study investigates fathers' demands for fathering education. Data from eight married, working men was collected through in-depth interviews. The interviews were intended to examine their father-role, working life, balance between work and family, and demand for the educational programs for fathers with particular regard to the themes, contents, and arrangement strategies they desire of the programs. The results show that fathers have a high demand for learning detailed methods of childrearing such as how to effectively sooth and play with their child(ren). Further, it was discovered that job flexibility is the major variable that determines a man's satisfaction with his parental role. Various information about possible arrangements of fathering education was collected from the interview data, such as desired themes, number of sessions, size of the educational program, volunteer role of participants, and focus of the course (e.g., many indicated interest in focusing on gender equality). This study reveals that greater detail, more effective contents, and efficient managerial strategies are required in fathering education in order to impart broader perspectives and knowledge about how to enhance the relationship between father and child(ren).

This study aimed at figuring out the current state of 26 family-health support centers in Gyeonggi-do, in order to prepare an activation plan for the centers. These centers are the main mediators of the family health operation. This study also aimed to understand the center users' satisfaction and demands. The results were as follows. First, a total of 65,794 participants from 9,960 businesses were processed. The majority had attended various integrated family services, followed by family counseling and/or family-friendly culture-establishing businesses. Second, the main users' profiles were as follows: average age, 41; average number of persons in the family, 3.78; education above foundation-level degree; diverse jobs that included special occupations; average monthly incomes of 3,390,000 won; and a middle-class living standard (as self-described by participants). Third, the users' main concern for their families was "financial difficulties," and they had an interest in education and counseling. Although they thought education and counseling were suitable solutions, they hesitated because they did not think their problems were serious enough to merit them. Fourth, the satisfaction level of their participation in their center's program was generally high, at 3.9-4.2 points. The majority of them said they would attend again in the future.

This study investigates the balance between work and family, and the happiness of married working women who have preschool-aged children. Data were collected from 321 questionnaires that consisted of three parts: 1) basic demographic variables, 2) family-life variables, and 3) working-life variables. SPSS 21.0 was used for the statistical analysis. The variables that were identified to have a statistically significant impact on the balance between work and family were income, age of first child, time spent on housework and childcare on weekdays, time spent on housework on weekends, family-friendly service in the workplace and flexibility of work schedule. 2) The variables that were identified to have a statistically significant impact on happiness were age, income, time spent on housework on weekends, satisfaction with spouse's participation in housework and childcare, average working time, family-fiendly service in the workplace, flexibility of work schedule, and balance between work and family. The majority of the variables that influence balance between work and family, and happiness related to aspects of work, such as family-fiendly service, flexibility of work schedules, and average working time. The results also found that the load of housework and childcare on weekends is a heavy burden for working women. Further research needs to focus on developing the extending index of happiness including the measure of balance between work and life. In addition, further studies with more varied groups need to be conducted.
The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of LOHAS images of Japanese restaurants on customers' menu selection and satisfaction to provide useful information on proposing detailed marketing directions by deriving the importance and satisfaction factors of LOHAS images and to suggest practical and effective measures for using LOHAS images to improve menus at Japanese restaurants. The results of the study are as follows. First, as a result of examining hypothesis 1, "LOHAS images will influence essential factors," it was found that healthy ingredient, family-oriented, eco-friendly, sustainability, and energy-saving factors were influential. With greater family-oriented, sustainability, healthy ingredient, and eco-friendly factors in LOHAS image, interests in essential factors increased. Second, family-oriented, energy-saving, social-oriented, and sustainability factors in LOHAS image had a significantly positive impact on the environmental factors of menu. Third, eco-friendly, sustainability, family-oriented, energy-saving, healthy preparation, and healthy ingredient factors in LOHAS image had a significantly positive impact on customer satisfaction. Fourth, essential factors in the selection attributes of Japanese restaurant menu had a significantly positive impact on customer satisfaction. Fifth, environmental factors in Japanese restaurants had a significantly positive impact on customer satisfaction. The significance and limitation of this study are: first, Japanese restaurants would be able to build a better image with customers by providing menu items that are family-oriented, sustainable, and energy-saving. Second, it would be necessary to study how LOHAS factors influence customers' general purchase decisions and psychological factors.
The purpose of the present study is to investigate the structural relationships of work-family culture, work-family balance and organizational commitment among Korean hotel employees. In order to achieve the study goal, frequency analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis and covariance structure analysis were undertaken using SPSS(18.0) and AMOS(18.0). The results showed that 'managerial support' had a significantly positive effect on work-family balance, and 'fewer negative career consequences' had a significantly positive effect on affective organizational commitment. In addition, work-family balance had a significantly positive effect on affective organizational commitment, Hence, in order to enhance employees' affective organizational commitment, the atmosphere in which employees can take advantage of family-friendly policies without any worry about the future disadvantages should be built. Also, management has to consider employees' work-family balance to be important and needs to develop various policies to keep employees' work and family stability.

The world has been demanding a green growing world in order to solve serious environmental pollution and resource depletion. This study aims to identify life style factors that drive eco-friendly clothing practices and efficacy in middle school students. Data was collected from 215 middle school students in Daegu, using a self-administered questionnaire in December 2013. Statistical analyses to determine frequency, average, ANOVA, factor analysis, reliability analysis, and regression analysis were performed using SPSS 21 program. The results of factor analysis indicated that eco-friendly clothing practices were classified into purchasing and management, reuse, washing, and recycle, and eco-friendly clothing practices efficacy was sub-grouped into practice confidence, purchasing and management efficacy, and washing and sharing efficacy, and life style consisted of fashion pursuit, environment pursuit, planned purchasing, and economy. Eco-friendly clothing practices and efficacy were significant differences in sex and grade (p<0.05). Eco-friendly clothing practices were significantly affected by the factors of environment pursuit, planned purchasing, economy of life style, and the factors of practice confidence, purchasing and management efficacy, and washing and sharing efficacy of eco-friendly clothing practices efficacy (p<0.05). The planned purchasing factor of life style significantly affected all the factors of eco-friendly clothing practices efficacy. This study suggests that eco-friendly clothing practices education program could account for the life style factors such as fashion pursuit, environment pursuit, planned purchasing, and economy with gender and grade to be effective for middle school students.

Baby boomers are often defined by their support of their parents and their devotion to their children's educational success by providing financial and emotional aids. Now, 7.12 million baby boomers in South Korea are retiring, or are about to retire, without any retirement plans. Similar to financial stability, health, and leisure life, social capital is another important element in the quality life after retirement. This is because social capital can function as a potential resource network. Social capital is a source that provides money, information, goods, services, emotional aids, social relational opportunities etc. In the past, family and community provided social capital for the aged. However, the baby boomer generation cannot expect the same. The baby boomers have the task of creating new social capital that can assure their quality of life. Therefore, this study examines cohort characteristics of the baby boomer generation and, based on the examination, seeks an alternative for social capital. The results are as follows: First, social capital from the local community can be an alternative source of caring for the baby boomers in old age. Second, among the social capital of the local community, elderly care supported by a family friendly community is proposed. In addition, baby boomers must become the primary social capital that contributes to a mature civil society rather than a beneficiary of welfare for the aged.
