Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between resilience, family support, and hopelessness, as well as to identify the effects of resilience and family support on the hopelessness of elderly inpatients in general hospitals. Methods: A total of 177 elderly persons were recruited from three general hospitals. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson;s correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The score on the hopelessness of hospitalized elderly persons was $2.88{\pm}0.88$ (range: 1-5). Multiple regression analysis results showed that participants; hopelessness was significantly influenced by resilience and family support, explaining 35.4% of the total variance. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, there is a need for the development of a resilience and family support program, aimed at reducing hopelessness among elderly persons, in order to promote their mental health.
Purpose: This study was a descriptive survey research to identify the factors that influence sick role behavior compliance in patients on hemodialysis. Methods: Structured surveys were used to collect data from 170 patients who are on hemodialysis three times a week through outpatient care at a university hospital located in G City using tools measuring resilience, family support, and sick role behavior compliance. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and Stepwise multiple linear regression. Results: The results showed that factors that influenced sick role behavior compliance in the subjects were in the order of family support (${\beta}=.27$, p<.001), age (${\beta}=.27$, p<.001), and resilience (${\beta}=.23$, p=.003). Resilience, family support, and sick role behavior compliance were positively correlated. Factors influencing hemodialysis patients' sick role behavior compliance included family support, age, and resilience. These variables explained 30.2% of the variance in sick role behavior compliance. Conclusion: Based on these results, care intervention and the development of a training program that involves family in the treatment plan and process to support and encourage patients are needed to increase the sick role behavior compliance in patients on hemodialysis.
Purpose: This study aimed to develop an integrated health promotion program for cancer survivors residing in the community based on the shared care model, and evaluate its effectiveness. Methods: A quasi-experimental trial was conducted. The participants consisted of 35 cancer survivors with completed intensive cancer therapy at the cancer hospital. The intervention group (n=20) and the control group (n=15) were recruited from among a district home cancer patient registrations. The intervention group participated in an integrated health promotion program based on the MAPP (Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnership) development process. The program consisted of physical, psycho-social and body image units. The participants were assessed before the program, and immediately after the program. Data were collected between July 1 and September 2, 2018 using FACT-G quality of life (QOL), distress thermometer (DT), and resilience. The data were analyzed by performing a χ2 test, Fisher's exact test, Mann-Whitney test, and ranked ANCOVA using SPSS. Results: The intervention group reported a higher QOL overall and significantly higher social/family well-being than the control group. Distress was significantly lower in intervention group than in the control group. Resilience had no significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion: These findings indicate that the integrated health promotion program base on the shared care model and MAPP development process could be effective intervention for improving social/family well-being and the QOL, and reducing distress of cancer survivors at home. Community health center nurses need to provide intervention to support self-care competency for cancer survivors' comprehensive care with physical, psycho-social, and body image to help them adjust their life to a moderate risk group in the community.
This study examined the relationships among children's perspectives on achievement-oriented parenting style, ego-resilience, school adjustment, and academic achievement. In order to analyze the associations, the study conducted a secondary analysis of the data found in the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) 2010-2011, which was a non-randomized controlled study designed with a longitudinal follow-up. We analyzed 1,212 students who were in the fourth and fifth grade at elementary school with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results were as follows. First, higher achievement-oriented parenting style was associated with higher ego-resilience that contributed to higher academic achievement and higher school adjustment. Second, higher achievement-oriented parenting style was directly related to lower academic achievement and lower school adjustment. The findings support that children's ego-resilience is an important factor to improve school adjustment and academic achievement. In addition, the achievement-oriented parenting style is not helpful for their children's school outcomes (such as academic achievement and adjustment) even though parenting style improved their children's ego-resilience. Ego-resilience that is developed by achievement-oriented parenting style is likely to enhance children's school adjustment and academic achievement. The study presents policy and practice implications, limitations and areas for further research.

The effects of Resilience, Communication skills and Interpersonal Relationshiop were investigated. The developed Software education program was designed in such a way that the target students became more intimate with each other and adapted to Korean culture, peers, and teachers through the analysis of the research subjects. Resilience test showed statistically significant difference in peer relationship and support, family support and interaction, teacher's interest and support, self - identity, and cultural acceptance. Communication ability test showed statistically significant differences in interpretation ability, self presentation ability, goal setting ability, and message conversion ability. The interpersonal Relationship test showed statistically significant differences in people's orientation toward people, facing people, and away from people. The results of this study indicate that the software education program for elementary school students in multicultural families has effects on adaptive flexibility, communication ability, and interpersonal ability. In the future, There is a need for continuous research with development and effectiveness of various software education programs for Multicultural students.
Purpose: This study was designed to develop and test a structural model for children's adaptation in divorced families. The hypothetical model was constructed based on the Family Resilience Model by McCubbin and McCubbin. Methods: Data were collected using self-report questionnaires from 219 children (3-6th grade) in divorced families. The children attended one of 22 community agencies, 8 after-school programs, 3 elementary schools in three cities in South Korea. The collected data were analyzed using LISREL program to test the hypothetical model. Results: The modified model was constructed by deleting four paths in accordance with the statistical and theoretical criteria. Compared to the hypothetical model, the revised one had a better fit to the data. Self-esteem, and beliefs about parental divorce had direct effects, and family communication and internal control had indirect effects on children's adaptation in divorced families. These variables explained 56% of the variance in children's adaptation. Conclusion: The modified model was supported by empirical data. This model could be applied to family nursing interventions with divorced families or any other suffering family transition. When working with children experiencing parental divorce, it is important for nurses to enhance children's self-esteem, family communication and to decrease children's negative beliefs about parental divorce to help in their adaptation.
The purpose of this study was to investigate ego-resilience and social adaptability of the children and adolescents in institutional care. The study also investigated the protective factors and the risk factors on ego-resilience and social adaptability and their relationship. The subjects in this study were 140 children and adolescents in institutional care. The research data were analyzed using Frequency, Pearson's Correlation, Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis and T-Test in SPSS WIN 10.0 program. The major findings were as follows. First, ego-resilience of the children and adolescents in institutional care was related to locus of control, depression and anxiety and unsatisfaction of institutional care. Result of stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that depression and anxiety and locus of control in the order had significant effects on ego-resilience. Second, social adaptability of the children and adolescents in institutional care was related to social support and parent-child bond. Unsatisfaction of institutional care and social support in the order had significant effects on social adaptability by stepwise multiple regression analysis. Third, the children and adolescents who had higher level of ego-resilience reported better social adaptability. The overall research results revealed that the risk factors such as unsatisfaction of institutional care and depression and anxiety than the protective factors had more significant effects on ego-resilience and social adaptability of children and adolescents in institutional care. This finding suggested that elimination of risk factors rather than development of protective factors was a more important task for the welfare of children and adolescents in institutional care.
This study aimed to develop a comprehensive group therapy program for divorced parents and their children for increased self-esteem, problem-solving technique, communication ability and emotional support. This comprehensive program was based on Solution-Focused and Satir's Experiential Family Therapy Models, as well as on therapeutic activities from various sources. Six mothers and 18 children of divorced families participated in this program which consisted of six, two-hour sessions. This program was found to be effective in enhancing the participants' self-esteem and communicative ability in addition to emotional support between mothers and their children, and among participants. Therapeutic activities were implemented in harmony with the Solution and Experiential based values and techniques, which seemed to heighten the fun and motivation for the participants to change their view points and behaviors in a positive way.
