  • The purpose of this study was to assess middle-aged married men and women's access to family resources (economic and relationship) and to examine how this affects their life satisfaction. Data were drawn from the second wave of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA). The sample consisted of 3,265 middle-aged married men and women aged between 45 and 60, who had children. The collected data were analyzed using multiple regression, ANOVA and the Scheff$\acute{e}$ctest using SPSS 18.0 The results showed that there was significant difference between men and women in terms of their access to economic and human relationship resources. In addition, the life satisfaction of the middle-aged was found to be significantly predicted by their access to economic and human relationship resources. In particular, the life satisfaction of group (A), who had low economic resource access but high family relationship satisfaction, was found to be higher than that of group (B), who had access to high economic resources but had low family relationship satisfaction This result indicated that there was an interaction effect between family resources. A number of policy implications were made.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of anxiety in mediating the influence of family of origin characteristics on subsequent relationship processes. Using Bowenian theory as a foundation, this study examined the causal relationships among gender, religion, family of origin-fusion, intimacy, intimidation, personal-trait-anxiety, couple open communication and relationship satisfaction. Results of the path analysis indicated that: (a) gender, religion, family of origin-fusion, and family of origin-intimidation were directly related to personal-trait-anxiety, (b) personal-trait-anxiety was directly related to couple open communication and not related to relationship satisfaction, (c) couple open communication was directly related to relationship satisfaction, and (d) family of origin factors were not directly related to couple open communication and relationship satisfaction; rather, as it was expected, indirect associations, through the mediation of anxiety, were found. The results generally support Bowen's intergenerational process theory, which asserts that anxiety is the mediator of the process. Limitations of the current study and suggestions for further research were discussed.

The result of this study are as follows: First, employment status, assets, and depression are found to have direct effect on family relationship satisfaction. Second, assets are found to have direct effect on depression. Third, we found full mediating effect of assets between employment status and depression. Fourth, we found not full but partial mediating effect of depression between assets and family relationship satisfaction. Finally, we found multiple partial mediating effects of employment status and family relationship satisfaction. The findings proposed that economic education as well as asset management targeting the disabled are required and very helpful to support their family relationship satisfaction. Based on the results of this study, we need to think about the disabled-oriented asset-building programs. This study investigates paths among factors influencing family relationship satisfaction of person with disability using path analysis and the 11th panel data of KoWePS(Korean Welfare Panel Study). Results : Family support according to general characteristics showed a significant difference by economic status(p<0.001), satisfaction of major(p<0.01), and interpersonal relationship(p<0.05). Satisfaction degree on clinical practice according to general characteristics showed a significant difference by satisfaction of major(p<0.05) and interpersonal relationship(p<0.05). The relationship between generally perceived family support correlated with the degree of satisfaction in clinical practice(r=.154, p<0.05). Conclusions : It was found that a higher degree of satisfaction in clinical practice depends on a higher degree of family support. Therefore it is required to program development to improve satisfaction level of clinical practice by family support.

  • The current study attempted to explain how family members' communication competence and personality such as locus of control, impulsivity, and optimism influenced their family relationship satisfaction. In addition, we examined which variables among these would predict highly the family relationship satisfaction by conducting the regression analyses. We also included demographic variables such as gender of offsprings, age and education level, and conversation time among family members as the control variables that may have influenced the family relationship satisfaction. Results showed that the higher the communication competence, internalness, and optimism were, the higher the family relationship satisfaction was whereas the higher the impulsivity was the lower the relationship was. for offspring, her/his own communication competence and impulsivity, the conversation time with her/his father, and the impulsivity of the parents in order were the best predictors of the their family relationship satisfaction. For father, his own communication competence, wife's impulsivity and optimism, and the conversation time with his offsprings in order predicted his family relationship satisfaction. For mother, her own communication competence and education level were the strongest predictors of her family relationship satisfaction. The results clearly demonstrated that the family members' communication competence and conversation time among themselves as well as their personality are playing an important role in explaining the their family relationship satisfaction. lastly, the limitations of the current study, and suggestions and implications for future studies were discussed.
