The purpose of this paper are to evaluate the program outcome(PO) for mechanical engineering program at Chosun University, In order to achieve the objectives of this study, we analyze the evaluation system on measuring and analyzed methods of PO. We expect that the evaluation system of PO will help program members to efficiently manage the engineering program accreditation evaluations. This paper were to improve PO evaluation system throughout assessment tools, measurements and analysis of PO between current students and faculty. This study would be confined measurements, analysis and improvement of PO for current students, and faculty in this program.

We wish to develop micro-total analysis system (TAS) on a chip, and to make a trial approach to solve the important problem that is to detect ions separated by the electric field. We propose an idea, which is as for rotational motions of dipolar ions, which are affected by the ion atmosphere in outer regions. This is a new kind of the ion-sensitive field effect transistor (ISFET). We wish to develop the ISFET chips, and give more effective, fast and sensitive, capillary electrophoresis is designed in near future.

The writing styles of TIME and Newsweek are analyzed using a specially developed linguistic program. These two news magazines were chosen because of their wide popularity. As for the results, it became obvious that both the frequency curve of words and that of characters have not changed for the past 60 years. Also, we have found that the frequency curves have some inflection points and that the genre of English writings can be identified by these points. After counting the percentage of required vocabulary for junior high school students and high school students in English writings, we can derive the relative difficulties of them using fuzzy reasoning. Fuzzy rules are constructed using features of the characteristic curves. We feel it would be a good guide index when selecting textbooks or supplementary readers.

University entrance for technical high school students in Japan is politically promoted from a viewpoint of lifelong learning. Therefore, the Japanese universities (faculty of engineering) are pressed on the necessity of making the reform for educational methods which are based on the premise of systematic study from high school to university. In Nagasaki University, the special entrance of students who were graduated from technical high school was started from 1995. Now, we are strengthening basic academic ability for them by developmental (remedial) education under a new educational-learning model called "engineering power" cultivation. We are promoting the examination of the instructional method and the development of teaching-materials, which become adequate to the student's actual condition, with technical high school teachers and the professors of our university through the observing of student's learning process and their lesson.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions and educational needs of the university faculties in charge of capstone design courses. To achieve the purpose of this study, the 100 questionnaires collected from the faculties nationwide with teaching experience in capstone design courses were analyzed using descriptive statistics analysis, the Borich needs assessment model, and the Locus for focus model. The faculties perceived the importance of their roles in the following order: coaching students, providing opportunities for students to show their abilities, motivating and encouraging, and building trusting relationships with students. The biggest challenges that the faculties perceived in capstone design classes were the lack of university-industry collaboration and project execution time. In the analysis of the needs for the capstone design process, the research results showed that team-building, core task development and analysis, deriving problem-solving ideas, building prototypes, and comprehensive reflection ranked the top priorities. This study is expected to help the design of the courses and the development of customized faculty support programs by analyzing the faculties' perceptions and needs for capstone design classes.

While graduates of Japan's technical high schools might demonstrate skills in a given specialty, they would be hard-pressed in any attempt to pass national universities' notorious entrance examinations. In a collaborative effort begun in 1994, the faculties of engineering at Niigata, Nagasaki, and Toyama Universities set about the task of preparing entrance examinations, and a general curriculum geared to the needs and educational backgrounds of these students, offering them supplementary lessons. While the larger project officially ended in 1999, we are carrying the research forward in Niigata University.

This paper is about one practical case on applying interdisciplinary collaboration on the education of technical writing and presentation for the engineering students. There are many points for the collaboration on various stages. Points of collaboration from the literature faculty and engineering faculty are discussed. Also collaboration forms in each educational stage are discussed. Finally a practical case of applying the collaboration scheme are described based on a real class example.

In this study, the assessment and the factor analysis of the self-directed learning readiness for engineering students were conducted. As measurement tool was used the self-directed learning readiness scale of Guglielmino's SDLRS questionnaire in Korean translation. It was surveyed under 519 students of Faculty of Engineering of Korea University of Technology and Education. Responded questionnaires were 496. As a result, seven factors were identified: (1)openness to learning, (2)initiative and inquiring mind, (3)independence and basic learning skills, (4)creativity, (5)accepting responsibility for learning, (6)love of learning, (7)positive orientation of the future. And the scale was confirmed in validity. It was confirmed that the mean value of openness to learning and of love of learning were higher than average, while mean value of independence and basic learning skills, accepting responsibility for learning were lower than average, there was the difference in SDLRS by students' personal backgrounds, but there were statistically significant differences in seven factors.

"e-Leaning" system is classified by lecture time into two types, that is, "synchronous type" spent the same lecture time between the lecturer and students, and "asynchronous type" spent the different lecture time. The size of image database is huge, and there are some problem on the management of the lecture image database in "asynchronous type" e-Learning system. The one of them is that the time tag for the database management must be added manually at present, and the cost of the addition of the time tag causes a serious problem. To resolve the problem, we will use the character recognition for the characters written by the lecturer on whiteboard, and will add the recognized character as a keyword to the tag of the image database. If the database would have the keyword, we could retrieve the database by the keyword efficiently, and the student could select the interested lecture scene only in the full lecture database.
