In this study, we demonstrated an eco-friendly thin-metallic-film-based heater which can be operated in water. Based on the materials stability, Mo was selected as the heating element to secure long-term stability. Using a magnetron sputtering, 40 nm-thick Mo layers were deposited onto a glass substrate, followed by the deposition of 60-nm-thick ZnO layer to prevent oxidation during the heater fabrication process. Then, PVB (Polyvinyl Butyral) was applied on top of ZnO layer and an additional glass substrate was placed, which were heated at 150℃ for 2 hr. The PVB was cured with strong adhesion by the processing condition. We operated the Glass/Mo/ZnO/Glass heater in water, and it was shown that the water temperature reached 50℃ within 2 minutes, with a minimal resistance change of the heater. Finally, the heaters exhibit a semi-transparency, and this aesthetic advantage is expected to contribute to the added value of the heater.

In this study, a study was conducted to localize a large aluminum turbo fan used for tank powerpack. The turbo fan was scanned with a 3D scanner and then 3D modeling was performed. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) were performed from the performance conditions of the fan, and structural analysis was performed using the pressure data obtained from CFD. The fan was reduced to 1/5 size by applying the geometric similarity. A 1/5 size fan has a honeycomb structure inserted into the front shroud and back shroud to reduce the weight by 5.3%. A 1/5 size fan was printed using a PBF 3D printer, and a 1/5 size fan with honeycombs was also printed. The pressure drop of 8.67 kPa and the required power of 138.19 kW, which satisfies the performance conditions of the fan, were confirmed from the results of CFD. The values of the maximum deformation amount of 0.000788 mm and the maximum effective stress of 0.241 MPa were confirmed from the structural analysis results. The fan printed by the PBF 3D printer had the same shape as the modeling, and the shape was perfect. There are no defects anywhere in appearance. However, the condition of the outer surface of the fan's back shroud is rough compared to other locations. The fan in which the honeycomb was inserted was also perfectly output, and the shape of the honeycomb was the same as the modeling.
Steel-precast ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) composite beams with demountable high-strength friction-grip bolt (HSFGB) shear connectors can be used for accelerated bridge construction (ABC) and achieve excellent structural performance, which is expected to be dismantled and recycled at the end of the service life. However, no investigation focuses on the demountability and reusability of such composite beams, as well as the installation difficulties during construction. To address this issue, this study conducted twelve push-out tests to investigate the effects of assembly condition, bolt grade, bolt-hole clearance, infilling grout and pretension on the crack pattern, failure mode, load-slip/uplift relationship, and the structural performance in terms of ultimate shear strength, friction resistance, shear stiffness and slip capacity. The experimental results demonstrated that the presented composite beams exhibited favorable demountability and reusability, in which no significant reduction in strength (less than 3%) and stiffness (less than 5%), but a slight improvement in ductility was observed for the reassembled specimens. Employing oversized preformed holes could ease the fabrication and installation process, yet led to a considerable degradation in both strength and stiffness. With filling the oversized holes with grout, an effective enhancement of the strength and stiffness can be achieved, while causing a difficulty in the demounting of shear connectors. On the basis of the experimental results, more accurate formulations, which considered the effect of bolt-hole clearance, were proposed to predict the shear strength as well as the load-slip relationship of HSFGBs in steel-precast UHPC composite beams.
Highly textured MgO template by ion-beam-assisted deposition(IBAD) was successfully fabricated using a continuous reel-to-reel(R2R) mode. To enlarge the deposition area, the previous IBAD system was modified into the system with 14-pass and five heating zone. Every processing step was carried out using this multi-turn IBAD system. The overall process consists of R2R electropolishing of a hastelloy C276 tape, deposition of $Al_2O_3$ diffusion barrier, $Y_2O_3$ seed layer, IBAD-MgO and homoepi-MgO layer. The IBAD-MgO templates were fabricated using the IBAD system with 216 cm-length deposition zone and 32 cm diameter ion source. The texture of MgO films developed during the IBAD process was monitored by in-situ reflection high energy electron diffraction(RHEED) to optimize the IBAD process. Recently, 100 m long IBAD-MgO tape with in-plane texture of $\Delta{\phi}<10^{\circ}$ was successfully fabricated using the modified IBAD system. In this report, the detailed deposition condition of getting a long length IBAD-MgO template with a good epitaxy is described.
Tensile residual stress is occurred by difference of coefficients of thermal expansion between fiber and matrix is one of the serious problems in metal matrix composite(MMC). TiNi alloy fiber was used to solve the problem of the tensile residual stress as the reinforced material. TiNi alloy fiber improves the tensile strength of composite with occurring of compressive residual stress in the matrix by its shape memory effect. A hot press method was used to create the optimal fabrication condition for a Shape Memory Alloy(SMA) composite. The bonding effect of the matrix and the reinforcement within the SMA composite by the hot press method was strengthened by cold rolling. In addition, acoustic emission technique was used to quantify the microscopic damage behavior of cold rolled TiNi/A16061 shape memory alloy composite at low temperature. The damage degree for the specimen that underwent thermal shock cycles was also discussed.
Sustainable energy supplies without the recharging and replacement of the charge storage device have become increasingly important. Among various energy harvesters, the triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) has attracted considerable attention due to its high instantaneous output power, broad selection of available materials, eco-friendly and inexpensive fabrication process, and various working modes customized for target applications. In this study, the amount of voltage and current generated was measured by applying the PSD profile random vibration test of the electronic vibration tester and ISTA 3A according to the time of Anodized Aluminum Oxide (AAO) pore widening of the manufactured TENG device Teflon and AAO. The discharge and charging tests of the integrated module during the random simulated transport environment and the recognition distance of RFID were measured while agricultural products (onion) were loaded into the returnable folding plastic box. As a result, it was found that AAO alumina etching processing time to maximize TENG performance was optimal at 31 min in terms of voltage and current generation, and the integrated module applied with the TENG module showed a charging effect even during the continuous use of RFID, so the voltage was kept constant without discharge. In addition, the RFID recognition distance of the integrated module was measured as a maximum of 1.4 m. Therefore, it was found that the surface condition of AAO, a TENG element, has a great influence on the power generation of the integrated module, and due to the characteristics of TENG, the power generation increases as the surface dries, so it is judged that the power generation can be increased if the surface drying treatment (ozone treatment, etc.) of AAO is applied in the future.
In the fabrication of curved multi-display glass for automotive use, the surface roughness of the mold is a critical quality factor. However, the difficulty in detecting micro-cutting signals in a micro-machining environment and the absence of a standardized model for predicting micro-cutting forces make it challenging to intuitively infer the correlation between cutting variables and actual surface roughness under machining conditions. Consequently, current practices heavily rely on machining condition optimization through the utilization of cutting models and experimental research for force prediction. To overcome these limitations, this study employs a surface roughness prediction formula instead of a cutting force prediction model and converts the surface roughness prediction formula into experimental data. Additionally, to account for changes in surface roughness during machining runtime, the theory of position variables has been introduced. By leveraging artificial neural network technology, the accuracy of the surface roughness prediction formula model has improved by 98%. Through the application of artificial neural network technology, the surface roughness prediction formula model, with enhanced accuracy, is anticipated to reliably perform the derivation of optimal machining conditions and the prediction of surface roughness in various machining environments at the analytical stage.

Purpose: Polymerization of HEMA(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) which can be used in the soft contact lens has been performed by using electron beam(EB) irradiation, and examined the best condition for the polymerization. Comparing the physical properties of the contact lenses to the one fabricated by thermal polymerization method, we check the use possibility of the EB irradiation to the fabrication of the soft contact lens. Methods: We investigated the degree of polymerization of the HEMA according to the composition of the monomer, the additive ratio and the dose of electron beam (0~120 kGy). The degree of polymerization was measured depending on the EB dose to research the best synthetic condition under the EB irradiation. The physical properties of the contact lens such as water content(%), oxygen transmissibility(Dk/t) and optical transmittance were analysed by using the FT-IR results with comparing the two different polymerization method (thermal and electron beam polymerization) with same additive ratio. Results: When the dose of electron beam was above 100 kGy, the degree of polymerization of HEMA was above 99% with regardless using cross-linker and initiator. The water content of the lens fabricated by EB method showed 10% higher than the one by the thermal method which was 40%. The lens fabricated by EB method also showed higher oxygen transmissibility(Dk/t) as same with the water content, and showed twice higher value in the lens fabricated by pure HEMA. According to the FT-IR results, hydrophilic property of the lens fabricated by EB method was increased due to increasing the intermolecular hydrogen bonding. It showed above 90% optical transmittance in the visible range of wavelength on the contact lenses fabricated by the both of two different polymerization method. Conclusions: The polymerization of HEMA without cross-linker and initiator was successful above 100 kGy of EB irradiation. Moreover the lens fabricated from the polymer synthesized by pure HEMA with 100 kGy of EB showed the highest water content and oxygen transmissibility. Therefore EB irradiation is another possible method to synthesize the polymer which can be used for the soft contact lens.
New formation technique of metal oxide sensing film was proposed m this paper. Silicon wafer with Pt electrodes was used as a substrate for depositing metal Sn film. Metal Sn was deposited in the state of not continuous film but only island state. The samples were prepared to obtain the optimal condition of metal Sn deposition. The resistances of deposited Sn onto Pt electrodes amounted to $1\;k{\Omega}$, $5\;k{\Omega}$, $10\;k{\Omega}$ and $50\;k{\Omega}$, respectively. Also The sample with $1,500\;{\AA}$ thickness of Sn was prepared m order to compare sensing properties between conventional type and proposing type. After deposition of metal Sn, $SnO_2$ was formed by thermal oxidation method for 3 hrs. in $O_2$ ambient at $700^{\circ}C$. Surface morphology, crystal structure and surface roughness of oxidized-sensing film were examined by SEM, XRD, and AFM, respectively. From the results of these analyses, the optimal deposition condition of Sn was that the Pt electrode resistance became $10\;k{\Omega}(300\;{\AA})$. Also, the sensing characteristics of fabricated sensing film for various concentrations of butane, propane and carbon monoxide gases were measured at he operating temperatures of $250^{\circ}C$, $300^{\circ}C$ and $350^{\circ}C$, respectively. Although catalyst as not added to the sensing film, it has exhibited the high sensitivity to all the test gases.
This paper proposes a new hybrid support structure by the driven piles which removes disadvantages of the existing type of support structure for offshore wind turbines. The hybrid type of support structure is combined with concrete cone and steel shaft, and is supported not only by gravity type foundations but also by driven piles. For three dimensional analysis of the huge and thick concrete structure, a solid-shell element that is capable of exact modeling and node interpolations of stresses is developed. By applying wave theory of stream function and solid-shell element in XSEA simulation software for fixed offshore wind turbines, a quasi-static analysis and natural frequency analysis of proposed support structure are performed with the environmental condition on Southwest Coast in Korea. In the result, lateral displacement is not exceed allowable displacement and a superiority of dynamic behavior of new hybrid support structure is validated by natural frequency analysis. Consequently, the hybrid support structure presented in this study has a structural stability enough to be applied on real-site condition in Korea. The optimized structures based on the preliminary design concept resulted in an efficient structure, which reasonably reduces fabrication costs.
