  • Cotton, rayon/cotton, and Tencel twill weave fabrics were used to investigate the effect of fiber types on the cellulase washing finish. And twill. basket, and derivative weave cotton fabrics were used to study the weave effect. Various fabrics were treated with neutral cellulase varying treatment times and with acid cellulase, stone, and stone-neutral cellulase respectively for two hours in a rotary washer. Weight loss decreased in the order of rayon/cotton> cotton> Tencel, and basket and derivative weave fabrics lost more weight than twill weave fabric. Color difference decreased in the order of cotton> Tencel> rayon/cotton, and twill weave fabric had larger color difference than derivative and basket weave fabrics. Back staining decreased in the order of cotton> rayon/cotton> Tencel, and twill weave fabric had larger back staining than derivative and basket weave fabrics. Tear strength retention decreased in the order of rayon/cotton> cotton> Tencet and twill weave fabric had larger tear strength retention than derivative and basket weave fabrics. Flex stiffness retention decreased in the order of cotton> Tencel> rayon/cotton, and in the order of derivative> twill> basket weave. In cotton fibers, damage of primary wall was observed. And the cellulase treatment on Tencel seemed to roughen the fabric surface slightly, and to fibril fibers along the fiber axis.

  • This study has been carried out to investigate the filteration performance of Electrostatically Stimulated Fabric Filter(ESFF) at high temperature condition. The electric field was maintained parallel to the fabric surface. The benefits of ESFF are lower residual pressure drop, improvement of fine particle removal efficiency and increasing reduced rate of pressure drop during a filteration cycle, stable operation at higher filtering velocities. According to the variance of filtering velocities and dust loadings, the results are summarized as follows; By imposing an electric field on the filter, the reduced rate of pressure drop was 7.sim.18% at room temperature, and when filtering velocity was 1.8m/min and dust loading was 1g/m$^{3}$, the value of reduced rate of pressure drop was shown the highest. Under the electric field around the filter, the reduced rate of pressure drop was 10.sim.35% at high temperature, and when filtering velocity was 1.8m/min and dust loading was 1g/m$^{3}$, the value of reduced rate of pressure drop was shown the highest. Most of all, at high temperature, the value of reduced rate of pressure drop was resulted to 25%. Also the collecting efficiency was shown clearly improved. By the SEM photo analysis, the number of penetrated particles at the Conventional Fabric Filter was approximately two times that of Electrostatically Stimulated Fabric Filter.

  • In this paper, an procedural approach to photorealistic rendering of woven fabric material is proposed. Previously proposed procedural approaches to fabric rendering have the disadvantage that the rendering result is not sufficiently realistic. In order to enhance the realism, researchers employed example-based approaches. However, those methods have serious disadvantage that they require huge amount of storage for the various reflectance properties of diverse materials. The proposed method can express the reflectance on weft and warp yarns by alternating the anisotropic reflectance on yarns. In addition, we propose the proposed method procedurally models the bumpy yarn structure of woven fabric to obtain plausible rendering results. The proposed method can efficiently reproduce realistic virtual fabric without any reflectance data sets.

  • Self-cleaning fabric is a fabric having a function of decotamination via photodecomposition of photocatalyst or wash-off of contaminants on the superhydrophobic surface. TiO2 is the main photocatalyst for this purpose, but it only functions under UV light which is only a little portion of sunlight, compared to visible light. In this regard, this study aims to investigate Fe-doped TiO2 for improved photodecomposition from visible light sensitization to apply self-cleaning finishing of PET fabrics. Moreover, the Fe-doped TiO2 treated PET fabric was further treated with hexadecyltrimethoxysilane to provide superhydrophobicity on the PET fabrics. As a result of this dual treatment, the prepared fabric exhibited excellent photodecomposition of methylene blue with 96.96% in 12h under sunlight and superhydrophobicity with water contact angle of 166.5° and roll-off angle of 7°. This suggested that the excellent self-cleaning functions can be privided to PET fabric via Fe-doped TiO2 and hexadecyltrimethoxysilane treatment.

  • In this paper, we report and discuss the semi-permanently hydrophilic (SPH) treatment of polyester fabric using plasma polymerization and oxidation based on atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge (APDBD) technology. SiOxCy(-H) was coated on polyester fabric using Hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane (HMCTSO) as a precursor, and then plasma oxidation was performed to change the upper layer of the thin film to SiO2-like. The degradation of hydrophilicity of the SPH polyester fabrics was evaluated by water contact angle (WCA) and wicking time after repeated washing. The surface morphology of the coated yarns was observed with scanning electron microscopy, and the presence of the coating layer was confirmed by measuring the Si peak using energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy. The WCA of the SPH polyester fabric increased to 50 degrees after 30 washes, but it was still hydrophilic compared to the untreated fabric. The decrease in hydrophilicity of the SPH fabric was due to peeling of the SiOxCy(-H) thin film coated on polyester yarns.

  • The absorption of blood onto the surfaces of white cotton, polyester, rayon, and nylon fabrics was studied. Different categories of fabrics (woven and knitted) with diverse thickness, were manually folded twice to obtain four fabric layers, and $100{\mu}L$ of human blood was dropped onto the surface of the fabrics. The amount of blood that penetrated the fabric layer and the shape of bloodstain observed on the fabrics were influenced by the chemistry, thickness, and texture of the fabric. The blood bearing fabrics were left to dry for 3 days, washed by hand using tap water, and Lumiscene was then sprayed onto the fabrics to enhance the latent bloodstain for comparison of the shape of the bloodstain before and after washing by hand. The features of the bloodstain after washing varied greatly with the recipient fabrics. Additionally, stronger luminescence was observed at the surface where the blood was deposited compared to the background. However, it was confirmed that physical contact during the washing can deform the original shape of the bloodstain. The effect of the drying time on the bloodstain after hand washing was also studied. $100{\mu}L$ of blood was dropped on the surfaces of the fabrics and dried for 0, 1, 12, 24, 72 h, and 7 days, then washed by hand, before the bloodstain was enhanced with Lumiscene. The results of this experiment indicated that the increased drying time induces stronger chemiluminescence of Lumiscene. However, after drying of the bloodstain for 7 days, the luminescence of the bloodstain was decreased at the blood deposited site and increased around the blood deposited site.

  • In this study, the colorants of Amur cork tree were extracted with boiling water. Chitosan crosslinked cotton fabrics have been dyed with aqueous extract of Amur cork tree and their dyeabilities on the fabrics were studied. Additionally the fastness to washing and light were also investigated. Cotton fabrics were treated with a crosslinking agent epichlorohydrin in the presence of chitosan to provide the cotton fabrics the dyeing properties of natural dye(Amur cork tree) by the chemical linking of chitosan to the cellulose structure. This process was applied by means of the conventional mercerizing process. The chitosan finishing and durable press finishing of the cotton fabrics occurred simultaneously in the mercerization bath. On the surface color change, the fabric of no-chitosan finished and no-mordanted has greenish yellow. The more crosslinked chitosan on cotton fabrics has the more turned down greenish on the surface color, as increasing the concentration of chitosan, greenish color turn down to the yellow close the 90o hue angle. In all sorts of fabrics, dyeability(K/S) is slightly affected by the number of manufacturing process and the concentration of chitosan. But only mercerized cotton fabric has higher dyeability (K/S) than mordant treated cotton fabrics. Wash fastness has little different results by each condition, but almost similar values. Light fastness was improved with chitosan treatment on cotton fabric.

  • The dyeing powder drawn out from Dryopteris crassirhizoma by water was concentrated. Using this powder, the silk and the cotton fabrics were dyed and they measured with the K/S value, surface color, mordant quantity in order to evaluate the dyeability, antimicrobial and deodorant properties. The colorant of Dryopteris crassirhizoma was proved flavonoids by FT-IR spectrum. The K/S values of silk were much higher than those of cotton, the color yield of the silk and cotton fabric were most efficient the postmordanting method. The surface colors on the dyed fabric depended heavily upon mordants used or mordanting methods. For all cases, the value of the dyed fabric was generally dark. The chroma produced clear for the Al-mordant of silk and the Cu-mordant of cotton in the 3% concentration of mordants, the color difference was distinct when using the Fe-mordant. The K/S values of cationized cotton were much higher than cotton. The color fastness was significantly improved when mordants were added, In the case of the light fastness, Fe and Cu-mordants improved more than 1 level. The Cu-mordant showed the greatest antimicrobial and deordarant activity on both of the silk and the cotton.

  • This research was carried out to find the dyeing properties of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi on the rayon and cotton fabrics. The best proper dyeing conditions were examined by changing dye concentrations, dyeing temperature, dyeing time, and dyeing repitition. Also dyeability and surface color changes were evaluated by various mordanting methods and agents. The maximum absorption of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi were at 275nm and 362nm. The optimum dyeing conditions on the cotton were 80%, $80^{\circ}C$, 40minutes, 4 repitition, and those on the rayon were 80%, $80^{\circ}C$, 60minutes, 5 repitition. The K/S values of rayon and cotton fabrics were higher in pre-mordant than post-mordant. The K/S values on the rayons were lower than no mordant fabric except pre-Fe mordant, these on the cotton fabrics were higher than no mordant fabric except post-Al mordant. The value of ${\Delta}E$ was the highest in Fe mordanted fabrics, and higher on the cotton fabric than rayon. The surface colors of all mordanted fabrics were yellow.
