Effects of functional training on strength, function level, and quality of life of persons in intensive care units

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of exercise therapy and bedside ergometer exercise on muscle strength, function level, and quality of life of persons in intensive care. Design: Randomized Controlled Trial Methods: Sixteen patients in the ICU were randomly assigned to either the exercise group (n=8) or the bedside cycle ergometer group (n=8). Activities in the ICU exercise group (rolling, sitting at the edge of the bed, transfer from sitting to standing, standing balance training, ambulation) and bedside cycle ergometer group were performed 5 times a week for 30 minutes during the ICU admission period. Medical Research Council (MRC) and Functional Status Scale-Intensive Care Unit (FSS-ICU) parameters were assessed at the time of admission to the ICU, and reevaluation was assessed on the day of ICU discharge. The Short Form-36 (SF-36) was assessed at the time of discharge from the ICU. Results: MRC and FSS-ICU were significantly increased before and after intervention in both the experimental and control groups (p<0.05). There was a significant difference between MRC and FSS-ICU in the comparison of the changes before and after the intervention (p<0.05). SF-36 was compared between groups after intervention and there was a significant difference between the experimental and the control group (p<0.05). Conclusions: Muscle strength and functional levels improved after intervention in both the experimental and control groups. The ICU exercise group was more effective than the bedside cycle ergometer group to improve muscle strength, functional level, and quality of life performance of persons in the ICU.

후면 주파수 선택 표면을 이용한 광대역 고이득 평면 사다리꼴 모노폴 안테나 설계 (Design of Wideband High Gain Trapezoidal Monopole Antenna using Backside Frequency Selective Surface)

  • 본 논문은 급증하는 무선통신, 자율주행자동차, 5G 무선통신 및 광대역 어플리케이션 등과 같이 다양한 방면에서 필요로 하는 광대역, 고이득 안테나 필요성에 따라 후면 주파수 선택 표면(FSS, Frequency Selective Surface)을 이용한 광대역 고이득 평면 사다리꼴 모노폴 안테나를 설계하였다. 제안된 안테나는 이중 금속층을 사용하여 기존의 주파수 선택 표면과 구조적인 차이점을 갖는다. 또한 기존의 안테나 설계에서 갖는 설계의 복잡함을 해결하기 위해 GA(Genetic Algorithms)과 HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator) 시뮬레이션을 사용하여 효율성을 증가시켰다. 이를 통해 3.52 GHz ~ 5.92 GHz의 넓은 대역폭과 전체 대역폭에서 10.5 dBi 이상의 이득을 유지하며, 5.1 GHz에서 11.8 dBi의 최고 이득을 갖는다. 기존 안테나와 비교하였을 경우 1.8 GHz의 36% 임피던스 대역폭이 2.4 GHz의 50% 임피던스 대역폭으로 향상되었으며, 이득의 경우 8.6 dBi 증가하는 것을 확인하였다.

AutoFe-Sel: A Meta-learning based methodology for Recommending Feature Subset Selection Algorithms

  • Automated machine learning, often referred to as "AutoML," is the process of automating the time-consuming and iterative procedures that are associated with the building of machine learning models. There have been significant contributions in this area across a number of different stages of accomplishing a data-mining task, including model selection, hyper-parameter optimization, and preprocessing method selection. Among them, preprocessing method selection is a relatively new and fast growing research area. The current work is focused on the recommendation of preprocessing methods, i.e., feature subset selection (FSS) algorithms. One limitation in the existing studies regarding FSS algorithm recommendation is the use of a single learner for meta-modeling, which restricts its capabilities in the metamodeling. Moreover, the meta-modeling in the existing studies is typically based on a single group of data characterization measures (DCMs). Nonetheless, there are a number of complementary DCM groups, and their combination will allow them to leverage their diversity, resulting in improved meta-modeling. This study aims to address these limitations by proposing an architecture for preprocess method selection that uses ensemble learning for meta-modeling, namely AutoFE-Sel. To evaluate the proposed method, we performed an extensive experimental evaluation involving 8 FSS algorithms, 3 groups of DCMs, and 125 datasets. Results show that the proposed method achieves better performance compared to three baseline methods. The proposed architecture can also be easily extended to other preprocessing method selections, e.g., noise-filter selection and imbalance handling method selection.

Antioxidative effects of fermented sesame sauce against hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidative damage in LLC-PK1 porcine renal tubule cells

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study was performed to investigate the in vitro antioxidant and cytoprotective effects of fermented sesame sauce (FSeS) against hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$)-induced oxidative damage in renal proximal tubule LLC-PK1 cells. MATERIALS/METHODS: 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), hydroxyl radical ($^{\bullet}OH$), and $H_2O_2$ scavenging assay was used to evaluate the in vitro antioxidant activity of FSeS. To investigate the cytoprotective effect of FSeS against $H_2O_2$-induced oxidative damage in LLC-PK1 cells, the cellular levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), lipid peroxidation, and endogenous antioxidant enzymes including catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-px) were measured. RESULTS: The ability of FSeS to scavenge DPPH, $^{\bullet}OH$ and $H_2O_2$ was greater than that of FSS and AHSS. FSeS also significantly inhibited $H_2O_2$-induced ($500{\mu}M$) oxidative damage in the LLC-PK1 cells compared to FSS and AHSS (P < 0.05). Following treatment with $100{\mu}g/mL$ of FSeS and FSS to prevent $H_2O_2$-induced oxidation, cell viability increased from 56.7% (control) to 83.7% and 75.6%, respectively. However, AHSS was not able to reduce $H_2O_2$-induced cell damage (viability of the AHSS-treated cells was 54.6%). FSeS more effectively suppressed $H_2O_2$-induced ROS generation and lipid peroxidation compared to FSS and AHSS (P < 0.05). Compared to the other sauces, FSeS also significantly increased cellular CAT, SOD, and GSH-px activities and mRNA expression (P < 0.05). CONCULUSIONS: These results from the present study suggest that FSeS is an effective radical scavenger and protects against $H_2O_2$-induced oxidative damage in LLC-PK1 cells by reducing ROS levels, inhibiting lipid peroxidation, and stimulating antioxidant enzyme activity.

DSRR을 이용한 주파수 선택적 표면 설계 (Design of a Frequency Selective Surface Using DSRRs)

  • 본 논문에서는 CDMA/RFID 주파수 격리도 향상을 위해 double split ring resonator(DSRR)을 이용한 주파수 선택적 표면(FSS)을 설계하였다. 제안된 FSS의 단위 셀 구조는 외부 SRR과 내부 SRR로 구성되며, 이 두 SRR의 gap은 같은 방향에 위치한다. SRR의 gap 간격 및 line 두께 등을 조절하여 전체적인 크기를 유지하면서 공진 주파수 및 스커트 특성을 조절할 수 있다. 동작 주파수에서 제안된 SRR의 필드는 magneto-dielectric SRR과 다른 방향을 가진다. 한 층은 $9{\times}9$ 단위 셀로 구성되어 있으며, 50 mm 간격을 두고 다른 층이 위치해 있다. 시뮬레이션 결과를 검증하기 위해 패치 안테나 및 FSS를 제작했으며, 측정 결과는 시뮬레이션 결과와 유사한 경향을 보인다. 단위 셀의 저지 대역에서의 전기적 크기는 $0.110\;{\lambda}{\times}0.110\;{\lambda}{\times}0.002\;{\lambda}$로 다이폴 FSS에 비해 소형이며, 지지대를 포함한 2층 FSS의 크기는 $1.058\;{\lambda}{\times}1.058\;{\lambda}{\times}0.153\;{\lambda}$이다. 측정 결과 CDMA 대역의 이득이 유지되며, RFID 대역에서 6.9 dB 이득이 감소하였다.

위성 통신용 다대역 안테나 (Multi-band directional antenna for satellite communications)

  • 본 논문에서 소개하는 위성 통신 안테나는 대용량 데이터 전송을 위한 위성 송수신 시스템에 응용되어 추가적인 급전부 교체나 다른 기구 형상 변경 없이 X, Ku와 Ka 3중 대역의 전파 신호를 동시에 송수신할 수 있다. 설계된 안테나는 오프셋 파라볼라 안테나 형태로 2중 대역(X/Ka 대역) 급전혼, 단일대역(Ku 대역) 급전혼, 주파수 선택막(FSS : frequency selective surface) 특성을 갖는 부반사판 및 파라볼라 주반사판으로 구성되어 있다. 주반사판의 초점에는 2중 대역 급전혼이 위치하며, FSS 부반사판으로 이미지 초점을 만들어 단일 대역 급전혼이 설치되어 운용된다. 본 안테나는 전기적 특성이 국내 위성 환경에 부합되도록 3차원 EM 시뮬레이터를 이용하여 설계하였고, 측정결과 X/Ku/Ka 대역에서 안테나 이득이 각각 31.6 dBi, 36.8 dBi, 40.8 dBi 이상, 교차편파는 각각 21.7 dB, 26.6 dB, 그리고 25.2 dB 이상의 특성으로 목표 성능을 만족함을 확인하였다.

A Note on Fuzzy Linear Regression Analysis of Fuzzy Valued Variables
