This paper presents the flexural behavior and strengthening effect of reinforced concrete beams bonded with carbon FRP plate. Parameters involved in this experimental study were plate bond length and sheet web anchorage length. Test beams were strengthened with FRP plate on the soffit and anchored with FRP sheet on the web. In general, strengthened beams with no web anchorage were failed by concrete cover failure along the longitudinal reinforcement. On the other hand, strengthened beams with web anchorage were finally failed by delamination shear failure within concrete after breaking of CFRP sheet wrapping around web. The ultimate load and deflection of strengthened beams increased with an increased bond length of FRP plate. Also, the ultimate load and deflection increased with an increased anchorage length of FRP sheet. Particularly, the strengthened beams with web anchorage maintained high ultimate load resisting capacity until very large deflection. The shape of strain distribution of CFRP plate along beam was very similar to that of bending moment diagram. Therefore, an assumption of constant shear stress in shear span could be possible in the analysis of delamination shear stress of concrete. In the case of full bond length, the ultimate resisting shear stress provided by concrete and FRP sheet Increased with an increase of web anchorage length. In the resisting shear force, a portion of the shear force was provided by FRP anchorage sheet.

Repair and Reinforcement are subjected change to increasing of remodelling. The usage of carbon fiber sheets is increasing for the strengthening of reinforce concrete structures. Therefore experimental and analytical studies are carry out to investigate the flexural behaviors of the strengthened RC structures by the external bonding of the new reinforcement method. Also the aim of this study is to investigate reinforcing method of FRP panel deal with fatigue loading through experiments.
A theoretical method to predict the interfacial stresses in the adhesive layer of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with porous FRP plate is presented in this paper. The effect due to porosity is incorporated utilizing a new modified rule of mixture covering the porosity phases. The adherend shear deformations have been included in the present theoretical analyses by assuming a linear shear stress through the thickness of the adherends. Remarkable effect of the porosity has been noted in the results. Indeed, the resulting interfacial stresses concentrations are considerably smaller than those obtained by other models which neglect the porosity effect. It was found that the interfacial stresses are highly concentrated at the end of the FRP plate, the minimization of the latter can be achieved by using porous FRP plate in particular at the end. It is also shown that the interfacial stresses of the RC beam increase with volume fraction of fibers, but decrease with the thickness of the adhesive layer.

This study presents test results of RC beams strengthened by carbon fiber sheet (CFS) or carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) for increasing shear resistance. Fifteen specimens were tested, and the test was performed with different parameters including the type of strengthening materials (CFS, CFRP), shear-strengthening methods (wing type, jacket type, strip type), strip-spacing, strengthening direction of FRP. The results show that shear-damaged RC beams strengthened by either CFS or CFRP have more improved the shear capacity.

The research reported in this paper provides the test results of eleven reinforced concrete beams strengthened with FRP composites. Three parameters were considered in this investigation: the amount of FRP composites, the types of bonding schemes(continuous sheets or strips), and the material types of FRP composites (Carbon or Glass). The experimental results indicated that because the rupture strain of FRP composites was relatively higher that the yield strain of steel bars, the RC beams strengthened with FRP composites failed due to concrete crushing before the FRP composites arrived at its rupture strain. The compatibility-aided truss model showed reasonable agreement between the predicted and experimental shear stress-strain curves of the beams throughout the entire loading history.

This paper presents the design, fabrication and performance of a reinforced concrete beam strengthened by GFRP box plate and its possibility for structural rehabilitations. The load capacity, ductility and failure mode of reinforced concrete structures strengthened by FRP box plate were investigated and compared with traditional FRP plate strengthening method. This is intended to assess the feasibility of using FRP box plate for repair and strengthening of damaged RC beams. A series of four-point bending tests were conducted on RC beams with or without strengthening FRP systems the influence of concrete cover thickness on the performance of overall stiffness of the structure. The parameters obtained by the experimental studies were the stiffness, strength, crack width and pattern, failure mode, respectively. The test yielded complete load-deflection curves from which the increase in load capacity and the failure mode was evaluated.

Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites have proved to be reliable as strengthening materials. Most of existing studies used single types of FRP composites. Therefore, in this experimental study, carbon FRP sheet, aramid FRP sheet, and hybrid FRP plate including glass fibers were fabricated, and the effect of pre-stressed FRP composites on flexural strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) beams was investigated. In total, eight RC beam specimens were fabricated, including one control beam (specimen N) without FRP composites and seven FRP-strengthened beams. The main parameters were type of FRP composite, the number of anchors used for pre-stressing, and thickness of FRP plates. As a result, the beam strengthened with pre-stressed FRP plate showed superior performance to the non-strengthened one in terms of initial strength, strength and stiffness at yielding, and ultimate strength. As the number of anchors and thickness of FRP plate (i.e., amount of FRP plates) increased, the strengthening effect increased as well. When hybrid FRP plates were pre-stressed, the strengthening effect was higher in comparison with pre-stressed single type FRP plate.

In recent years, carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) has been widely used for repairing and/or strengthening structural elements in concrete. Not enough test data, however, are available to predict the long-term performance of the repaired and improved structures exposed to weathering. The objective of this research is to study the effect of freeze-thaw cycling on the behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened in shear with carbon fiber sheet. Six small-scale RC beams (100mm${\times]$100mm${\times]$400mm) were strengthened with CFRP in shear, subjected to up to 400 cycles freeze-thawing from -17${\sim}4^{\circ}C$, and tested to failure in four-point bending. Test result, there was no significant damage to carbon fiber sheet strengthened concrete beams had been suffered 30 cycles of freeze-thawing, and more over 60 cycles of freezing-thawing brought about a reduction in resistance of only 25% of the initial level.
The severe deterioration of structures has led to extensive research on the development of structural repair techniques using composite materials. Consequently, previous researchers have devised various analytical methods to predict the interface performance of bonded repairs. However, these analytical solutions are highly complex mathematically and necessitate numerous calculations with a large number of iterations to obtain the output parameters. In this paper, an artificial neural network prediction models is used to calculate the interfacial stress distribution in RC beams strengthened with FRP sheet. The R2value for the training data is evaluated as 0.99, and for the testing data, it is 0.92. Closed-form solutions are derived for RC beams strengthened with composite sheets simply supported at both ends and verified through direct comparisons with existing results. A comparative study of peak interfacial shear and normal stresses with the literature gives the usefulness and effectiveness of ANN proposed. A parametrical study is carried out to show the effects of some design variables, e.g., thickness of adhesive layer and FRP sheet.

Many research have been carried out concerned with the flexural performance of FRP composite in a various ways. Most of them, however, have used a small-scale specimen, so haven't been fully verified by full-scale model test. In this study, a full-scale RC beam model test for flexural strengthening with CFRP composites has been performed in order to verify test results obtained through a series of small-scale model test with respect to FRP stiffness affecting strengthening performance in the previous studies. A total of 4 specimens have been manufactured including control beam. The specimens strengthened with CFRP composites consist of 3 different CFRP stiffness with 2 types of CFRP composite. Consequently, the purpose of this study is to estimate influence of the size effect of specimens and FRP stiffness on the flexural performance. As a result, the effective strain of FRP composite is inversely proportional to FRP stiffness and ensures the same performance with small-scale model test.
