Small fishing vessels are manufactured using FRP. Various studies have been conducted to increase the strength of the composite material by mixing alumina powder with resin. Tensile tests and flexural strength tests are conducted to examine the effect of alumina powder on the strength of GFRP. In the current study, resin/alumina composites at different alumina contents (i.e., 0, 1, 5, and 10 vol%) have been prepared. The physical and mechanical properties of the prepared composites have been investigated. From the results, the tensile strength of the specimen with alumina powder mixed in at 10% shows the highest value of 155.66 MPa. The tensile strength of the specimen mixed with alumina powder increases with the amount of alumina powder impregnated. In the flexural strength test, the flexural strength of neat resin without alumina powder has a highest value of 257.7 MPa. The flexural modulus of ALMix-5 has a highest value of 12.06 GPa. Barcol hardness of ALMix-10 has a highest value of 51. We show that alumina powder leads to decreasing cracks on the surface and decreasing length area of delamination.

Fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) rods provide certain benefits over steel as concrete reinforcement, such as corrosion resistance, magnetic and electrical insulation, light weight, and high strength. FRP composites can be combined with a steel core to form hybrid reinforcing rods that take advantage of properties of both materials. The objective of this study was to characterize the bond behavior of hybrid FRP rods made with braided epoxy-impregnated aramid or poly-vinyl alcohol FRP skins. Eleven rod types were tested using two concrete strengths. Specific topics examined were bond strength, slip, and type of failure in concentric pull-out tests from concrete cubes. From analysis of identical pull-out tests on both hybrid and steel rods, information on relative bond strength and behavior were obtained. It is concluded that strength is similar but slip in hybrid rods is much higher. Hybrid rods failed either by pull-out or splitting the concrete block (with or without yielding of the steel core). Experimental data showed consistency with similar test results presented in the literature.
The Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is evidently a powerful tool for the analysis of structural concrete having nonlinearity and brittle failure properties. However, the result of FEA of structural concrete is sensitive to two modeling factors: the shear transfer coefficient (STC) for an open concrete crack and force convergence tolerance value (CONVTOL). Very limited work has been done to find the optimal FE Modeling (FEM) methodologies for structural concrete members strengthened with externally bonded FRP sheets. A total of 22 experimental deep beams with or without FRP flexure or/and shear strengthening systems are analyzed by nonlinear FEA using ANAYS program. For each experimental beams, an FE model with a total of 16 cases of modeling factor combinations are developed and analyzed to find the optimal FEM methodology. Two elements the SHELL63 and SOLID46 representing the material properties of FRP laminate are investigated and compared. The results of this research suggest that the optimal combination of modeling factor is STC of 0.25 and CONVTOL of 0.2. A SOLID 46 element representing the FRP strengthening system leads to better results than a SHELL 63 element does.
This work has been investigated in order to study the influence of the moisture absorption on the mechanical pf the glass fiber/epoxy resein composites and the carbon fiber/epoxy resein composites. The types of glass fiber used in the glass fiber/epoxy resein composites were randomly oriented fiber and plain fabric fiber. And carbon fiber.epoxy resein composites was laminated with fabric prepreg which was formed with carbon fiber and epoxy resein. Both composites were immersed up to 100 days in distilled water at $80^{\circ}C$, and then dried up to 3 days in an oven at 80$80^{\circ}C$. Both composites were measured for the weight gain of water(wt.%) and tensile strength through immersion and dry time. Consequently, it was found that the tensile strength of thw glass fiber/epoxy resein composites and the carbon fiber/epoxy resein composites were reduced proportionally to the moisture absortion rate. Also, the tensile strength of glass fiber composites was decreased more than that of the carbon fiber composites. Additionally, it was found that the tensile strength of all composites which decreased by moisture absorption were partly recovered by drying in an oven at 80$80^{\circ}C$.

This paper summarizes the results of the fatigue test of four composite bridge decks in extreme temperatures (-30$^{\circ}C$ and 50$^{\circ}C$ ). The work was performed as part of a research program to evaluate and install multiple FRP bridge deck systems in Dayton, Ohio. A two-span continuous concrete deck was also built on three steel girders for the benchmark tests. Simulated wheel loads were applied simultaneously at two points by two servo-controlled hydraulic actuators specially designed and fabricated to perform under extreme temperatures. Each deck was initially subjected to one million wheel load cycles at low temperature and another one million cycles at high temperature. The results presented in this paper correspond to the fatigue response of each deck for four million load cycles at low temperature and another four million cycles at high temperature. Thus, the deck was subjected to a total of ten million cycles. Quasi-static load-deflection and load-strain responses were determined at predetermined fatigue cycle levels. Except for the progressive reduction in stiffness, no significant distress was observed in any of the composite deck prototypes during ten million load cycles. The effects of extreme temperatures and accumulated load cycles on the load-deflection and load-strain response of FRP composite and FRP-concrete hybrid bridge decks are discussed based on the experimental results.
Using combinations of carbon and glass fiber composites normally used for strengthening of concrete structures, the hybrid effect from strengthening concrete structures using the composite is studied. To produce the hybrid effects, the specimens were made with optimum proportions of carbon fibers with glass fibers. Then, direct tensile tests were conducted on the hybrid FRP (fiber reinforced polymer) specimens. Unlike the woven fiber sheet currently used in construction sites, the FRP specimens have to be directly combined with the fibers, which make the work very complicated. Therefore, direct tensile test specimens manufacturing method based on the combination of high-tension carbon fibers and E-type glass fibers was proposed and the effects of hybridization is studied through the direct tensile test. By comparing the ductility index, the modulus of elasticity, and the stress-strain curves of the specimens, the most optimum glass to carbon fiber combination ratio for the hybrid FRP was found to be 9 to 1 with ductile K-type epoxy. The study results are discussed in detail in the paper.

Fiber reinforced polymer plastic (FRP) structural members are recently available in construction industries due to various material properties such as high specific strength and stiffness, light-weight, and corrosionresistance. The floating PV generation structure can also be an illustration for applying FRP in construction applications. The floating PV generation structure has been recently issued as a representative item for the low carbon and green growth campaign and many related studies have been conducted for the structural safety and commercial viability. Moreover, the floating PV generation structures for the commercial purpose have been constructed. In this paper, the investigation and development processes of elements for the floating PV generation structure are presented during commercialization.
As a fundamental structural element of construction, a pile is constructed to transfer loads from superstructure to foundation. In general, since the pile foundation is constructed in the ground or ground under water, it is difficult to protect from the damages due to moisture and/or salt which create corrosive environment and it is even more difficult to estimate its durability. In this study, in order to enhance the durability and constructibility of the pile foundation, FRP-concrete hybrid composite pile (HCFFT) is suggested. Moreover, equation for the prediction of load carrying capacity of HCFFT circular members under compression is suggested and discussed based on the results of analytical and experimental investigations. In addition, we also conducted the finite element simulation for the structural behavior of new HCFFT composite pile and the result is compared with those of experimental and analytical studies. In addition, the axial loading capacity of new HCFFT composite pile is compared with those of existing PHC pile and hollow circular steel pipe pile, and it was found that the new HCFFT composite pile has advantages over conventional PHC and steel pipe piles.

Pot life of two-component adhesives such as epoxy resin used in saturating FRP composite is defined as a certain time periods which can guarantee the bond performance and workability of epoxy resin. Therefore, adhesion procedure in strengthening RC members should be completed before chemical hardening is going on at job site. It has been known that there are two types of test method to evaluate the pot life of structural adhesive based on apparent viscosity or temperature change. This study is to verify the test methods how to assess pot life of structural adhesive for FRP composites by means of changing in apparent viscosity and means of exothermic reaction temperature proposed in existing test standards. Results of each test method were compared and analyzed, and reasonable test and evaluation method were suggested.
In this study, we suggest the new floating PV generation structure which is improved the structural and economical efficiency compared with the system developed in the previous research. Pultruded FRP has superior physical and chemical material properties compared with those of conventional structural materials. Especially, pultruded FRP has an excellent corrosion-resistance, light-weight, and it also has high specific strength and stiffness which are highly appreciated for the design and fabrication of floating PV generation structure under harsh environmental condition. In this study, structural analysis using the finite element method has been performed to investigate the safety of new floating PV generation structure and newly applied structural members.
