  • FRACAS(Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System) is intended to provide management visibility and control for reliability and maintainability improvement of hardware and associated software by timely and disciplined utilization of failure and maintenance data to generate and implement effective corrective actions to prevent failure recurrence and to simplify or reduce the maintenance tasks. This process applies to acquisition for the design, development, fabrication, test, and operation or military systems, equipment, and associated computer programs. This paper shows the FRACAS development process and developed FRACAS system for a defense equipment.

  • Systems Engineering is the process that controls the technical system development effort with the goal of achieving an optimum balance of all system elements. FRACAS(Failure Reporting an d Corrective Action System) is one of RAMS(Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) tasks which is conducted from a manufacturing phase. FRACAS is to determine the basic cause of failure resulting from design or manufacture, and to provide a closed-loop method of implementing corrective action. This paper presents the FRACAS established for assessment of the reliability, the analysis and management of the failure data for Korean High Speed Train and application cases.

  • This paper addresses the Fault Monitoring System developed by Hyundai-Rotem based on the Mil-HDBK-2155 Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System. The purpose of a FRACAS is to provide a documented history of any problems, failures, their associated corrective actions as well as detailing how and why each problem arose or failure occurred during the Warranty Period for Rolling Stock delivered by Hyundai-Rotem. The Fault Monitoring System can assess the reliability, availability and maintainability as well as can predict no. of failure at a time which can input to Life Cycle Cost.

  • In reliability engineering, failure reporting, analysis, and corrective action system (FRACAS) is an useful tool for effective failure reporting and related operations. FRACAS is generally mainly focused on implementation of its closed-loop process, but also includes various related information which has to be effectively managed such as failure types, failure modes, failure mechanisms, and corrective actions. In this study, we adopt and utilize the concept of process knowledge, and create it through abstraction of FRACAS information. At each step of closed-loop process, the necessary type of knowledge, priority and usability are clearly defined. This study also suggests corresponding management tools such as business process management system, knowledge management system, and their key elements and functions to deal with process knowledge. A prototype system using simple closed-loop process with its process knowledge is presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed work.

  • 고장보고분석 및 정비시스템은 군용장비를 주요 대상으로 신뢰성과 정비성을 개선하기 위해 사용 하는 관리도구이다. 고장보고분석 및 정비시스템은 고장, 결함 및 정비기록을 수집하고 그 원인을 분석하여 고장에 대한 대책 수립 과정에 적용함으로써 체계 및 서비스를 지속적으로 감시, 효율적으로 통제하는 폐쇄적 피드백 시스템으로 체계의 개발단계부터 운용 및 폐기까지의 수명주기 동안 해당 업무 담당자 및 고객에게 보고되어 고장대책에 대한 조치가 이루어지도록 하는 시스템이다. 또한, 향후 새로운 설계와 시스템 개발시 신뢰도를 성장시킬 수 있는 중요한 역할을 하는 시스템이다. 본 연구에서는 일반적인 군의 고장보고분석 및 정비시스템 개발과정을 검토하고 한국의 무기체계와 운용 및 정비 환경에 적합하게 구축된 고장보고분석 및 정비시스템에 대하여 알아본다.

  • 체계의 신뢰도 향상을 위한 활동으로 고장 보고, 분석 및 고장 수리체계 (FRACAS: Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System)가 다양한 산업 분야에서 적용되고 있다. FRACAS는 식별된 고장에 대한 원인 분석과 적절한 시정 조치, 결과 검증을 반복 수행하는 활동으로 신뢰도 향상에 효과적이지만, 기존의 개발 환경에 통합 운용하기에는 프로세스, 데이터 수집 및 관리 등 여러 가지 측면에서 제약사항이 있다. 국내 방산분야에서는 FRACAS 적용의 어려움을 해소하기 위해서 FRACAS 시스템 개발 및 프로세스 개선에 관한 연구가 진행되었지만, 대부분이 운용/유지 단계에 집중되어 있다. FRACAS는 총 수명주기 체계관리(TLCSM: Total Life Cycle System Management) 관점에서 운용되어야 하므로, 개발 초기인 설계 단계부터 FRACAS를 적용할 수 있도록 참조 아키텍처에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 국방 무기체계의 전 수명주기에 걸쳐 FRACAS를 효과적으로 적용하기 위해, 체계 수명주기 단계와 FRACAS Closed-Loop 프로세스, FRACAS 필수 요소 등을 고려한 TLCSM 기반의 통합 아키텍처 구축에 대해 연구하였다. 제시된 아키텍처는 함정 전투체계 사업에서 FRACAS 수행 시 참조 모델로 활용하였다.

  • The following thesis provides an explanation for the definition of the MIL-HDBK-2155 : Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS), which systemizes the collection and analysis of failure data and the feedback process of the results. It also presents a plan based on MIL-HDBK-2155 for the collection and analysis of operating specifications on weapon systems. The collection and analysis of failure data and the feedback process utilizing FRACAS contributes to identifying improvement requirements during equipment operation as well as finding and eliminating the root cause of the failures. The objective of applying FRACAS to weapon systems is to receive source data feedback for reliability enhancements and performance improvements during operation. This is done by recognizing weaknesses in the design or operation by identifying the type of failures that might occur, and by performing Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis(FMECA) and Failure Tree Analysis(FTA).

국내 도시철도 차량을 위한 FRACAS 기반의 신인성 관리 플랫폼 연구 (A Study on FRACAS-based Dependability Control Platform for Domestic Urban Railway Trains)

  • This paper describes a study on the FRACAS(Failure Reporting Analysis and Corrective Action System)-based dependability control platform for domestic urban railway trains. There are more demands for the verification of the dependability of trains as it becomes a regulation for train manufacturers to verify the dependability recently. Train manufacturers as well as railway operators need a effective FRACAS solution to perform the verification of the dependability. Yet current FRACAS solutions have limitations to support the verification processes effectively. This paper addresses the issues of current FRACAS solutions and suggests a FRACAS framework designed for the domestic urban railway trains. Service failure scenarios are standardized using the proposed availability model to implement a more user-friendly and reliable platform. A new FRACAS-based platform for the dependability control (SCARF®) has been developed to implement the suggested framework. The detail interfaces and functions of the platform are explained. The SCARF® platform is expected to engage the increasing demands for the dependability control successfully enhancing the reliability, maintainability, availability and safety of domestic urban railway trains eventually.

  • This paper is described the System of effective RAMS Management established for AREX Railway System. This system for AREX's E&M system contains FRACAS(Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action Plan) and computation of RAMS indices. This procedure is applying to improve the Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety for railway system in operation stage. Furthermore, this system would be a basis of RCM(Reliability Centred Maintenance).

  • In this paper we introduce an applicable RCM(Reliability centered maintenance) method for Track circuit equipment of AREX's Signalling System. AREX computerize all the process of FRACAS(Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System)) by the Facility Management System of Integrated Information System. These datum were analysed and reproduced as the RAMS index value which can be used by maintenance staff for optimizing the maintenance method of the System.
