  • In this paper, prediction of centrifugal fan was conducted through combination the hybrid CAA method which was used to predict the fan noise with the FRPM technique which was used to generate the broadband noise source. Firstly, flow field surround the centrifugal fan was computed using the RANS equations and noise source region was deducted from the computed flow field. Then the FRPM technique was applied to the source region for generation of turbulence which satisfies the stochastic features. The noise source of the centrifugal fan was modeled by applying the acoustic analogy to the synthesized flow field from the computed and generated flow fields. Finally, the broadband noise of the centrifugal fan was predicted through combination the modeled noise source with the linear propagation which was realized using the boundary element method. It was confirmed that the proposed technique is efficient to predict the tonal and broadband noises of centrifugal fan through comparison with the measured data.

  • To develop an efficient screening method for detection of the transgene in Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa spp. pekinensis) utilizing Basta spray, optimal conditions for Basta application were examined in this study. Two transgenic Chinese cabbage lines were obtained through Agrobacterium-mediated transformation and used as transgenic positive controls in the Basta screening experiment. Differential concentrations of glufosinate-ammonium were sprayed into three different growth stages of 12 commercial Chinese cabbage cultivars. The results showed that no plants could survive higher than 0.05% glufosinate-ammonium, and plants at the 2-3 leaf stage were most vulnerable to glufosinate-ammonium. On the other hand, no damage was observed in the transgenic control plants. Reliability of the Basta spray method was proven by showing perfect co-segregation of the tolerance to glufosinate-ammonium and the presence of the bar gene in T1 segregating populations of the transgenic lines, as revealed by both PCR and Southern blot analyses. Using the developed Basta screening method, we tried to investigate the transgene flow through pollen dispersal, but failed to detect any transgene-containing non-transgenic Chinese cabbages whose parents had been planted adjacent to transgenic Chinese cabbages in field conditions. However, the transgene was successfully detected using Basta spray from the non-transgenic plants bearing the transgene introduced by hand-pollination. Since the Basta spray method developed in this study is easy to apply and economical, it will be a valuable tool for understanding the mechanism of gene flow through pollen transfer and for establishing a biosafety test protocol for genetically modified (GM) Chinese cabbage cultivars.

  • LMP based congestion management method is suggested as an effective tool, because network congestion can be handled by energy price. It is now being widely used in the North American Electricity Markets. Among them, FGR(Flow-gate rights) is considered to be appropriate for our system, as power flow through the congested line is unidirectional and congestion occurs in the known place. In the CBP market, hedging through transmission right is not necessary even though location pricing system is adopted, because there are no risks in the energy price. Rut, transmission rights should be adopted in the advanced market. Key issue when implementing FGR is how to decide transmission right issuance quantify. This paper deals with a method to decide transmission right issuance quantity by using power. Transfer Distribution Factor(PTDF).

  • Online game market accounts for 56.4% of entire game industry in Korea. MMORPG games account for a great part of online game market which have 45.27%. However, most of them are wholly reliant on their subjective criteria - not general rule or standard in the planning and developing process. For this reason, they can be easily misunderstood imitation game which has no difference or creativeness from masterpiece. In this paper to solve this problem especially deals with the quantification of flow through analysis of MMORPG to propose common information or method of quantitative analysis. The method of quantitative analysis which deals with the quantification of flow through analysis of successful MMORPG verifies the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In this study, the prediction method of coolant flow rates has been developed and applied to an engine and vehicle cooling system. The flow rate passing through each component of the system is very important parameter to evaluate the heat transfer process form the combustion gas to the coolant and the heat rejection process form the radiator /heater to the ambient air. However, the present study reveals that the measurement using the flowmeter fails to give practical flow rates due to its additive resistance. In contrast, the present method which uses the parallel and serial relationship of flow resistance proved to be a good tool to predict the real flow rates. It can be also used to design the cooling system in the incipient stage of engine/vehicle development . The procedure was coded to the computer program so as to use it flexibly and, in the future, to expand it into an independent design tool of the whole cooling system including the heat release and rejection.

  • Recently, the hydraulic fill method is commonly used in many reclamation projects due to lack of fill materials. The method of hydraulic fill in reclamation is executed by transporting the mixture of water-soil particles into a reclaimed land through dredging pipes, then the dredged soil particles settle down in the water or flow over an out flow weir with the water. In the present study, to compare the soil and sand-mat mixed method with sand-air jet method for shallow improvement of hydraulic fills at southern seashore, the model tests were performed. Through the model test results, the behavior of surface as disturbance of desiccation crust is analyzed.

  • In this paper, flow-induced flutter instability of cantilever carbon nanotubes conveying fluid and modelled as a thin-walled beam is investigated. Non-classical effects of transverse shear and rotary inertia are incorporated in this study. The governing equations and the associated boundary conditions are derived through Hamilton's principle. Numerical analysis is performed by using extend Galerkin method which enables us to obtain more exact solutions compared with conventional Galerkin method. Cantilevered carbon nanotubes are damped with decaying amplitude for flow velocity below a certain critical value, however, beyond this critical flow velocity, flutter instability may occur. Variations of critical flow velocity with both radius ratio and length of carbon nanotubes are investigated and pertinent conclusion is outlined.

  • To control the vibration and sound of structure, it is important to analyze the dynamic action of structure. And through those analysis, the vibration source and the flow path is understood. To grasp that, when the two-dimension plate structure is shaken by a harmonic point excitation with the natural frequency using the finite element method, this paper presents the relation between vibration power flow and mode shape. As those results present to vector flow, the vibration power flow is visualized.

  • A simple and rapid method to estimate the viscosity of chitosan using laboratory pipettes was developed. The voscosities of nine different chitosan samples, prepared ini 1 % acetic acid at a 1% concentration , were measured with a standard viscometer. Prior to measurement of flow time of 1% chitosan solution with a pipette, twelve pipettes were assorted into three groups with flow times of 4, 5 and 6 sec after measuring passage of 9 ml of 1% acetic acid througth a 10 ml pipette. With each group of pipettes. flow time of 1% chitosan solution was determined by measuring the delivery time of 5 ml of the 10ml solution through a 10 ml pipette. Results of regression analyses revealed high linear relationship(R2=0.9812, 0.9663, and 0.9754) between viscosities calculated with a viscometer and flow times measured with 4, 5 or 6 sec group pipettes. The viscosity of chitosan could be readily and accurately estimated from these linear regression equation by measuring flow times based on pipette delivery.
