A Study for FIPA-OS Multi-Agent Framework in OSGi Service Platform

  • In this paper, we implemented a FIPA-OS multi-agent framework bundle in OSGi Service Platform. FIPA-OS is an open agent platform for constructing FIPA compliant agent using mandatory components that required by all FIPA-OS agents to execution and optional components that FIPA-OS agent car optionally use. The platform supports communication between multiple agents and communication language which conforms to the FIPA standards. FIPA-OS framework bundle is composed of DE(Directory Facilitator), AMS(Agent Management System), ACC(Agent Communication Channel) and MTS(Message Transport System) bundle. These bundles installed in the OSGi service platform and their life cycle can be managed by the framework.

  • In this paper, we implemented the FIPA-OS framework bundle and service agent bundle over the OSGi service platform in home-sewer platform. The FIPA-OS is the first open source implementation of the FIPA standards and is a component-based toolkit implemented in Java. The FIPA-OS bundle is composed of two bundles. One is the communication bundle such as RMI, IIOP, HTTP and ACC. Another is the agent loader bundle. Experiments are conducted on the service agent communication and loading by the agent loader bundle, and the proposed bundles are successfully installed, stopped, and uninstalled over the OSGi service platform.

  • In the future, a machine-tool will be more improved in the form of a knowledge evolution based device. In order to develop the knowledge evolution based machine-tool, this paper proposes the structure of knowledge evolution and the scheme of a dialogue agent among agent-based modules such as a sensory module, a dialogue module, and an expert system. The dialogue agent has a role of interfacing with another machine for cooperation. To design of the dialogue agent module in M2M(Machine To Machine) environment, FIPA-OS and ping agent based on FIPA-OS are analyzed in this study. Through this, it is expected that the dialogue agent module can be more efficiently designed and the knowledge evolution based machine-tool can be hereafter more easily implemented.

  • It is expected that intelligent broadcasting service (IBS) will be able to provide broadcast programs based on user preference and program-associated information (metadata) in order to assist users to easily navigate the program contents being broadcast. So users can access program contents anytime/anywhere in the way they want. In this paper we propose a framework for IBS based on an intelligent software agent platform so called FIPA (Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agents). We use an FIPA implementation. so called FIPA-OS, as a platform for exchanging user preferences and program information as FIPA messages between a server and clients. The user preference is modeled as the User Preference description scheme in MPEG-7 MDS (Multimedia Description Scheme).

  • One of the most important aspects of the research on multi-agent systems is the definition of agent communication languages(ACLs) and the specification of a proper formal semantics of ACLs. In this paper, we propose an illocutionary effect-based FIPA-ACL semantics which overcomes the two traditional semantic approaches. The key idea of this new semantics is based on the semantic concepts of success and satisfaction conditions of illocutionary acts in speech act theory, and the common ground theory-based framework. As case studies using this new semantics, we define the primitive speech acts of FIPA-ACL such as inform and request. For the strengths of the proposed approach we illustrate our new semantics on an e-commerce agent purchase negotiation. Also, we compare this approach with two traditional semantic approaches for ACLs.

  • In the future, a machine-tool will be more improved in the form of a knowledge evolution based device. In order to develop the knowledge evolution based machine-tool, this paper proposes the structure of standard M2M(Machine To Machine) and the scheme of agent communication in environment. The communication agent such as dialogue agent has a role of interfacing with another machine for cooperation. To design of the communication agent module in M2M environment, FIPA(Foundation of Intelligent Physical Agent) and ping agent based on JADE(Java Agent Development Framework) or FIPA-OS(Open Source) are analyzed in this study. Through this, it is expected that the agent communication can be more efficiently designed and the knowledge evolution based machine-tool can be hereafter more easily implemented.

  • It is expected that an intelligent broadcasting service (IBS) will be able to provide broadcast programs based on user preference and program-associated information (metadata) in order to assist users in easy navigation of the program content being broadcast. In this way, users will be able to access program content anytime, anywhere, and in the manner they wish. This type of IBS will be a basis for future broadcasting services such as customized broadcasting or personal casting. In this paper, we introduce an agent-based multimedia broadcasting framework using the Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agents (FIPA) and MPEG-7 technologies within MPEG-21. We use a FIPA implementation called FIPA open source as a platform for exchanging user preferences and program information as FIPA messages between a server and its clients. The user preference is modeled as the User Preference description scheme in MPEG-7 multimedia description schemes. We discuss a framework structure and implementation for the IBS.

  • 에이전트 시스템(agent system) 관련 기술은 이질적이고 분산된 환경에서 상호 운용성(interoperability)을 확보하기 위한 방법이 될 수 있다. 이런 에이전트 시스템의 국제 표준화를 진행해 나가고 있는 단체인 FIPA(Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agents)는 1996년 에 형성되었고, 이질적인 시스템간의 상호 운용성을 최대화하기 위해서 국제적으로 인정된 명세서를 정기적으로 발표하고 있다. 하지만 최근까지 FIPA 표준안은 모바일 ad-hoc네트워크와 같은 환경을 고려하지 못하고 있다. 이러한 환경에서 에이전트는 이질적인 네트워크들에서 제공하는 서비스들을 이용할 수 없다. 이러한 문제점에 초점을 맞추어 본 논문에서는 FIPA 표준을 참고하여 만든 FIPA-OS(Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agents Open Source) 를 수정한 에이전트 플랫폼을 제공한다. 우리는 이러한 에이전트 플랫폼을 이용하여 이질적인 환경에서 제공하는 서비스들에 대한 상호운용성과 에이전트 플랫폼 안에 DM(Discovery Middleware)을 추가하여 확장성을 보장한다. DM은 에이전트가 ad-hoc 네트워크 안에서 동작하는 서비스 디스커버리 기법들을 사용하여 서비스들을 찾고 생성할 수 있게 도와준다. 우리는 다양한 서비스 디스커버리 기법 중 UPnP (Universal Plug and Play)와 LSD (Lightweight Service Discovery Protocol)를 이용하여 DM을 구현하였다. UPnP는 UPnP 포럼에서 개발된 서비스 디스커버리를 위한 프로토콜의 집합이며 LSD는 우리가 만든 모바일 ad-hoc 네트워크에서 동작하는 새로운 서비스 디스커버리 프로토콜로 캐쉬 관리를 강조하여 개발하였다. 우리가 제안하는 DM을 이용하여 수정된 에이전트 플랫폼에서 UPnP와 LSD의 장비에서 제공되는 서비스들을 상호간 이용 할 수 있다.

  • Recently, the conventional concept of a machine-tool in manufacturing systems is changing from the target of integration to the autonomous manufacturing device based on a knowledge evolution. Subsequently, a machine-tool has been the subject of a cooperation through an advanced environment where an open architecture controller, high speed network and internet technology are contained In the future, a machine-tool will be more improved in the form of a knowledge evolution based device.   • 최근 네트워크 환경이 점차 복잡해지고 동적으로 변화함에 따라서 이러한 에드혹 네트워크 환경을 지원하기 위한 에이전트 플랫폼에 관한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 그러나 기존 에드혹 네트워크 환경을 지원하는 에이전트 플랫폼은 플랫폼의 경량화에는 성공하였지만 FIPA에서 제안하는 에이전트 플랫폼의 표준안을 만족시키는 다양한 기능을 제공하지 못한다. 이것은 다른 에이전트 기반 시스템들과의 상호 운용성을 떨어트린다. 본 논문에서는 FIPA에서 제안하는 기능을 만족시키면서, 보다 빠른 서비스 제공 및 경량화된 에이전트 플랫폼을 설계 및 구현하였다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 에이전트 플랫폼은 FIPA 표준안을 만족시키기 때문에 에드혹 네트워크 환경뿐만 아니라 범용적인 네트워크 환경에서도 동작 가능하고, 플랫폼의 경량화된 특성으로 인하여 PDA와 같은 모바일 기기에도 이식하여 사용할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 에드혹 네트워크 환경을 지원하는 에이전트 플랫폼을 설계 및 구현하였으며 동적 및 정적 네트워크 환경의 효과적인 적용 및 에이전트 플랫폼이 구동 불가능 단말기에서의 구동여부를 평가하여 그 유효성을 검증하였다.
