  • In this paper, we analyze web response time depending on queue managements and transmission latencies in highly congested network situation. Under FIFO scheme, the response times are for three different sizes of queue are almost the same, but the response time increases as traffic intensity increases. The performance between different queue sizes shows more different in 90% and 98% traffic intensity than in 80% traffic intensity. Especially the difference becomes bigger in short latency case than long latency case. Under RED scheme, three differently tunned RED schemes do not impact on the response time when the size of queue is relatively large. When the queue size becomes smaller, the response time of the differently tunned RED schemes becomes different for short latency case while the response times are almost same for long latency case. When comparing FIFO and RED schemes under same size of queue, RED scheme shows less response time than that of FIFO for the long latency case in high traffic intensity.

  • This paper summarizes recent development of analytical and algorithmical results for stationary FIFO queues with multiple Markovian arrival streams, where service time distributions are general and they may differ for different arrival streams. While this kind of queues naturally arises in considering queues with a superposition of independent phase-type arrivals, the conventional approach based on the queue length dynamics (i.e., M/G/1 pradigm) is not applicable to this kind of queues. On the contrary, the workload process has a Markovian property, so that it is analytically tractable. This paper first reviews the results for the stationary distributions of the amount of work-in-system, actual waiting time and sojourn time, all of which were obtained in the last six years by the author. Further this paper shows an alternative approach, recently developed by the author, to analyze the joint queue length distribution based on the waiting time distribution. An emphasis is placed on how to construct a numerically feasible recursion to compute the stationary queue length mass function.

  • In this paper we propose a new packet scheduling mechanism to improve TCP throughput and fairness with estimated link state information in wireless networks, in which mobile hosts are receivers. Since a priori estimated link state information is used in this proposed mechanism, the entire packet transmission time can be reduced. In other words, packets scheduling procedure is performed before packets are transmitted using estimated link state. The proposed mechanism also has an temporary FIFO queue to store packets which are on the head of queue and can not be transmitted due to bad link state. Using this temporary FIFO queue, HOL(Head of Line) problem of FIFO queue can be resolved.

  • For a broad class of discrete-time FIFO queueing systems with D-MAP (discrete-time Markovian arrival process) arrivals, we present a distributional Little's law that relates the distribution of the stationary number of customers in system (queue) with that of the stationary number of slots a customer spends in system (queue). Taking the multi-server D-MAP/D/c queue for example, we illustrate how to utilize this relation to get the desired distribution of the number of customers.

  • Recently, the automobile industry is going through drastic environmental changes. The relative importance of information technology rapidly developed so far is getting heavier as it is grafted to electrical and electronic areas among all other automobile-related technologies. In this paper, an improved algorithm from the real-time scheduling algorithm of operation system which is loaded in embedded system will be presented. The number of wait-queue of priority was reduced from 16 to 4 in the parts where wide differences were shown in scheduling algorithm of the existing OSEK OS. While the FIFO algorithm was used in wait-queue, the EDF algorithm was applied to the proposed scheduling algorithm, which more improved the real-timeness. Also a simple experiment on the proposed scheduling algorithm was conducted.

  • In this paper, the prioritized queueing handoff scheme in CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) cellular system is proposed. Also, the analytical survey for the proposed scheme is carried out, and the performance of this scheme is compared with that of non prioritized scheme and FIFO (First In First Out) queue scheme by computer simulation. The handoff region is defined as the time between the handoff treshold and the receiver threshold, and it is used for the maximum queue waiting time in the proposed scheme. The handoff and the receiver thresholds are defined as rewpectively: 1) the time that the Pilot Strength Measurement Message in the neighbor in the neighbor cell is received to the BS (Base Station) under the T_ADD threshold; and 2) the time that the T_DROP timer is expired and the Pilot Strength Measurement Message in the current cell is received to the BS under the T_DROP threshold. The performance metrics for analyzing the proposed scheme are : 1) probability of forced termination; 2) probability of call blocking; 3) ratio of carried traffic to total offered load; 4) average queue size; 5) average handoff delay time in queue. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme maintains high performance for handoff requests at a small penalty in total system capacity.

  • Earlier efforts on optical access concentrated on the design of PONs for the collection and distribution portion of the access network. In these networks the optical hardware in the RN is very simple, but a multiple access protocol is needed for upstream traffic control. On the other hand, the role of communications is already well established in the office environment. With the advent of cheap, affordable broadband communications and the increasing complexity of consumer electronics, it seems natural to extend the network into the home. As the application of Home Area Network is ever increasing, we therefore consider connectivity between access network and home network which generates various traffic to design MAC protocol over residential network. Global-FIFO is quite simple and allows dynamic upstream bandwidth assignment on the basis of a request-and-permit mechanism. It has good bandwidth efficiency and being cell-based, it does not consider the various traffic from home network. In this paper, we design and analyze the new MAC resource assignment algorithm called MQ-FIFO (Multiple Queue-FIFO) that provides good performance under the environment of ATM-PON and Home Network.

  • In this study, we consider stationary waiting times in a simple fork-and-join type queue which consists of three single-server machines, Machine 1, Machine 2, and Assembly Machine. We assume that the queue has a renewal arrival process and that independent service times at each node are either deterministic or non-overlapping. We also assume that the Machines 1 and 2 have an infinite buffer capacity whereas the Assembly Machine has two finite buffers, one for each machine. Services at each machine are given by FIFO service discipline and a communication blocking policy. We derive the explicit expressions for stationary waiting times at all nodes as a function of finite buffer capacities by using (max,+)-algebra. Various characteristics of stationary waiting times such as mean, higher moments, and tail probability can be computed from these expressions.
