파이프라인 FFT 프로세서 설계을 위한 하드웨어 구조 분석 (Comprehensive Analysis of Hardware Architectures of Pipeline FFT Processor)

  • FFT(Fast Fourier Transform)는 멀티미디어 통신 및 디지털 신호처리 분야, 특히 무선통신이나 디지털 방송 등에서 쓰이는 OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing)에서 필수적인 역할을 하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 파이프라인 FFT 프로세서 설계의 다양한 알고리즘 및 하드웨어 구조에 대해 살펴보고 이를 한 눈에 파악할 수 있는 설계 가이드라인을 제시한다. 또한 분석 중 Radix-2 Single-path Delay Feedback의 복소곱셈기의 비효율적인 면을 찾고 새로운 R2SDF 구조를 제안한다.

Novel FFT Acquisition Scheme with Baseband Resampling for Multi-GNSS Receivers

  • A GNSS receiver must perform signal acquisition to estimate the code phase and Doppler frequency of the incoming satellite signals, which are essential information for baseband signal processing. Modernized GNSS signals have different modulation schemes and long PRN code lengths from legacy signals, which makes it difficult to acquire the signals and increases the computational complexity and time. This paper proposes a novel FFT/Inverse-FFT with baseband resampling to resolve the aforementioned challenges. The suggested algorithm uses a single block only for the FFT and thereby requires less hardware resources than conventional structures such as Double Block Zero Padding (DBZP). Experimental results based on a MATLAB simulation show this algorithm can successfully acquire GPS L1C/A, GPS L2C, Galileo E1OS, and GPS L5.

  • In this paper, the performance of OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) and FMT(Filtered Multi-tone) Systems is compared under jamming environment. Two systems are multi-carrier systems to improve data rates. Through the comparison of two systems under jamming environment, the characteristics and strong/weak points of each system are analyzed.

  • LED 기반 그린에너지 조명 시스템의 성공적인 연구 개발과 원만한 설치 운영을 위해서는 펄스 파, 스파이크 파를 비롯한 비선형신호와 고조파, sag, swell 등을 포함한 불요신호에 대한 실시간 전력품질측정이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 그린에너지 조명시스템 응용을 타깃으로 기존 저주파수 대 (60Hz~수KHz)는 물론 수십 KHz 이상의 고주파수 대에 발생하는 각종 전원 신호 분석이 가능한 저가형 전력품질측정 (power quality measurement: PQM) 방안을 제안하고, 이를 TI 320F28335 MCU(micro-controller unit) 기반 PQM 테스트 베드로 구현한다. 제안된 알고리즘은 CCS (Code Composer Studio) 3.3 환경에서 C언어로 작성하였으며, 임의 신호 발생기(NF-WF1974)로부터 발생된 모의 신호를 활용하여 구현된 알고리즘을 검증한다. 테스트 베드를 이용하여 LED SMPS로부터 발생되는 각종 비선형 전류 신호 측정, FFT를 이용한 고조파 신호의 분석이 가능할 뿐 아니라 이산 웨이블렛 변환을 이용한 sag, swell, interruption 등의 고품질 전력신호 측정도 가능하다.

Experimental study on bridge structural health monitoring using blind source separation method: arch bridge

  • A new output only modal analysis method is developed in this paper. This method uses continuous wavelet transform to modify a popular blind source separation algorithm, second order blind identification (SOBI). The wavelet modified SOBI (WMSOBI) method replaces original time domain signal with selected time-frequency domain wavelet coefficients, which overcomes the shortcomings of SOBI. Both numerical and experimental studies on bridge models are carried out when there are limited number of sensors. Identified modal properties from WMSOBI are analyzed and compared with fast Fourier transform (FFT), SOBI and eigensystem realization algorithm (ERA). The comparison shows WMSOBI can identify as many results as FFT and ERA. Further case study of structural health monitoring (SHM) on an arch bridge verifies the capability to detect damages by combining WMSOBI with incomplete flexibility difference method.

OFDM용 고속 Radix-8 FFT 구조 (High-speed Radix-8 FFT Structure for OFDM)

  • 이 논문에서는 고속 FFT 구현을 위한 Radix-8 구조를 제안한다. 제안 FFT 구조의 핵심은 Radix-8 DIF(Decimation In Frequency) 나비연산기 구조이다. Radix-8 알고리즘은 고속처리는 가능하나 구현면적이 증가하는 단점이 있는데, 제안 구조는 곱셈연산을 DA(Distributed Arithmetic) 방식을 사용하여 구현함으로써 구현 면적이 증가하는 것을 줄일 수 있었다. 64-point FFT에 대하여 기존의 Radix-4 나비연산기와 제안된 Radix-8 나비연산기를 각각 사용하여 구현한 결과 구현면적이 49.2%가 증가하였다. 즉, Throughput을 2배로 증가시키기 위하여 하드웨어는 49.2%만 증가함을 Verilog-HDL 코딩을 통하여 확인하였다. 또한 기존 구조와 제안 구조가 같은 Throughput을 얻는 경우에는 전력소모가 25.4%가 감소하게 된다. 따라서 제안된 나비연산기를 사용하는 FFT 구조는 고속/저전력 FFT를 필요로하는 OFDM용 통신단말기에 사용될 수 있다.

Measurement and Interpretation of Time Variations of Particulate Matter Observed in the Busan Coastal Area in Korea

  • In order to investigate the effects of local and synoptic meteorological conditions on urban scale particulate air pollutants observed over the Busan coastal area, power spectrum analysis was applied to observed particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter $\leq10\;{\mu}m$ ($PM_{10}$) for the period from 1 October, 1993 to 31 December, 2004. Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis was used to obtain the hourly mean observed $PM_{10}$ concentrations to identify different periodicity scales of $PM_{10}$ concentrations. The results showed that, aside from the typical and well-known periodicities such as diurnal and annual variations caused by anthropogenic influences, three other significant power spectral density peaks were identified: 7-day, 21-day and 2.25-year periodicities. Cospectrum analysis indicated that the seven-day variations were closely related to the synoptic meteorological conditions such as weak wind speed, which are relevant to the stagnant high pressure system slowly passing through the Korean Peninsula. The intra-seasonal 21-day variation was negatively correlated with wind speed but was consistently positively correlated with relative humidity, which is related to aerosol formation that can be achieved as a result of the hygroscopic characteristics of aerosols. However, the quasibiennial 2.25-year variation was correlated with the frequency of Asian dust occurrence, the periodicities of which have been recorded inter-annually over the Korean Peninsula.

Target Velocity Estimation using FFT Method

  • This paper studied a method of estimating target information using a radar in wireless communication. Position information on the target can be estimated angle, distance and velocity. The velocity information can be estimated since the Doppler frequency is changed in the moving target. The signal incident on the receiving array antenna is multiplied by the delay time and the reference signal to represent the output signal. This output signal is estimated by applying FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) after calculating signal correlation through correlation integrator. Since the output signal must be calculated within the correlator, it should be processed with the Dwell time. The correlation signal of the correlation integrator outside this Dwell time is indicated by the velocity measurement error. The FFT is applied to the signal that has passed through the correlated integrator in order to estimate the distance of the signal. The Doppler resolution must be improved because the FFT estimates target information using the Doppler information. The Doppler resolution decreases with increasing the integration time. The velocity information estimation should have no spread of the velocity. As a result of the simulation, there was no spread of the target velocity in this study.

  • Fast Fourier Transform(FFT)과 같은 디지털 신호처리 응용에서는 계수가 미리 정해진 특정 그룹의 곱셈기를 사용한다. 본 논문에서는 수정된 CSD 알고리즘 및 부분곱 공유 알고리즘을 기반으로 계수가 미리 정해진 특정 그룹의 곱셈 계수를 위한 효율적인 곱셈기 설계 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 알고리즘을 direct digital frequency synthesizer(DDFS)에 사용되는 sine/cosine 생성회로 및 128 point radix-24 FFT에 사용되는 곱셈기에 적용하였을 경우 기존 곱셈에 비하여 면적, 소비전력, 속도에서 최대 34%의 이득이 있음을 CAD 시뮬레이션을 통해 보인다.
