  • In this study, it was conducted to improve the performance of stud of Steel Plate Concrete(SC) walls subjected to bending moment. Non-linearity of contact interface, connection, and material properties were considered in finite element modeling of SC wall. In order to validate the analytical model, furthermore, a foregoing laboratory experiment was simulated by FEM, so that comparison between the measured result and the analysis result have be done. The size of the analytical model was determined by reflecting various references and the analyses were performed according to various shapes and arrangements of stud. Additionally, the validity of the model considering the related provisions in the KEPIC SNG standard was also considered. As a result, the optimal shape and spacing of studs was proposed through this numerical analysis and standard verification.

  • The DDAM(Dynamic Design Analysis Method) has been the most popular method for the shock response analysis of naval shipboard equipment. It was common to model the equipment as a simplified mass-spring system with multi degree of freedom in DDAM. Nowadays, however, it is necessary to adopt the finite element method for the shock response analysis due to the complexity of equipment. In this study, the DDAM program is developed to evaluate the performance of shock-resistance of FEM models using MSC/NASTRAN DMAP(Direct Matrix Abstraction Program) which provides the practical tools in interfacing with the externally developed program. Through the numerical test of the structural components and comparison with the results of ANSYS DDAM, it is confirmed that the developed program can be applicable to analyze the shock responses of the shipboard equipments.

  • Mobile harbor is characterized by the lightweight compact structure when compared to the conventional above-ground port container crane. A new concept RORI crane system, which was devised for mobile harbor to satisfy the compactness and light weightness, not only can load/unload containers with high speed on sea but can be completely folded at maneuvering mode. This study is concerned with the tip deflection of the horizontal boom of mobile harbor at container loading operation. Both the theoretical method utilizing the Castigliano's theorem and the numerical approach by finite element method are employed, and the reliability of the latter approach is verified through the comparison with the theoretical results. And then, the effect of the initial cable tension on the tip deflection is parametrically examined by the finite element analysis.

  • In the process to manufacture for metallic structures, control of welding deformation is one of an important problems connected with reliability of the manufactured structures so that welding deformation should be measured and controlled with quickly and actively. Also, welding parameters which have as lot of effects on welding deformation such as arc voltage, welding current and welding speed can also be controlled. The objectives for this study were to develop a simple 2-D FEM to calculate not only the transient thermal histories but also the sizes of fusion and heat-affected zone (HAZ) in multi pass arc welds including the butt and fillet weld type with dissimilar thickness, and to concentrate on a developed model for the finding the parameters of Godak's moving heat source model based on a GA. The developed model includes a GA program using MATLB and GA toolbox, and a batch mode thermal model using ANSYS software. Not only the thermal model was verified by comparison with Goldak's work but also the developed model was validated with molten zone section experimental data.

  • The work presented in this paper concerns the aerodynamic characteristics and compression wave generated in a tunnel when a high speed train enters it. A large number of solutions have been proposed to reduce the amplitude of the pressure gradient in tunnels and some of the most efficient solutions consist of (a) addition ofa blind hood, (b) addition of inclined part at the entrance, and (c) holes in the ceiling of the tunnel. These are numerically studied by using the three-dimensional unsteady compressible Euler equation solver with ALE, CFD code, based on FEM method. Computational results showed that the smaller inclined angle leads to the lower pressure gradient of compression wave front. This study indicated that the most efficient slant angle is in the range from $30^{\circ}$ to $50^{\circ}$. The maximum pressure gradient is reduced by $26.81\%$ for the inclined angle of $30^{\circ}$ as compared to vertical entry. Results also showed that maximum pressure gradient can be reduced by $15.94\%$ in blind hood entry as compared to $30^{\circ}$ inclined tunnel entry. Furthermore, the present analysis showed that inclined slant angle has little effect on aerodynamic drag. Comparison of the pressure gradient between the inclined tunnel hood and the vertical entry with air vent holes indicated that the optimum inclined tunnel hood is much more effective way in reducing pressure gradient and increasing the pressure rise time.

  • In this paper, the sensing unit of a non-invasive blood glucose sensor for home users, using a magneto-resonance absorption method, have been designed and manufactured. The sensor is capable of non-invasively determining blood glucose levels through measuring the 1H spin-lattice relaxation time in human body, The comparison of initial models, with different dimensions and shapes, for the sensing unit has led us to select the materials of the final model, which has adequate size and weight for home use. Through the design optimization using the FEM model, the dimension of final model has been determined to satisfy the required strength and uniformity of the magnetic field in the detecting area.

  • Recently, as steel structures become higher and more long-spanned, application of high strength steel. SM570, is considered, For accurate seismic design, seismic analysis of steel structures needs a constitutive equation describing the characteristic of steel materials under non-proportional cyclic loading, While the use of SM570 material is much increased these days, research for description and generalization of cyclic plasticity behavior are insufficient, In this study, a cyclic plasticity model is proposed by results of material tests, i.e, monotonic and low cycle tests, Proposed cyclic plasticity model is applied to 3-Dimensional FE program and we carried out seismic analysis of pipe-section steel pier using SM570, Comparison between experiment and analysis results shows that the proposed constitutive equation is able to describe exactly the complicated plastic behavior of steel structure using SM570.

  • The mixed mode problem (I and II) of a peny-shaped interface cracks in remote tension loading on a bi-material cylinder is studied using finite element method. The energy release rates for the tip of the crack in the interface were calibrated for several different moduli combinations and crack ratios using the modified crack closure integral technique and J-integral method, with numerical results obtained from a commercial finite element program. Numerical results show that non-dimensional value of$\sqrt{G_{II}E^*}/\sqrt[p]{\pi a}$ increases as the crack size or moduli ratio increases. Meanwhile, non-dimensional value of$\sqrt{G_{I}E^*}/\sqrt[p]{\pi a}$ decreases as the moduli ratio increases, but above the moduli ratio of 3 its value decreases then increases again as the crack size increases. Reliability of the numerical analysis in this study was acquired with comparison to an analytical solution for the peny-shaped interface crack in an infinite medium.

  • Based on a variational principle of the consistent shear deformable discrete laminate theory derived in the companion paper Part I, a finite element procedure for the vibration analysis of laminated composite plates is presented. The present formulation takes the in-plane displacements of an arbitrary layer, the rotations of the cross section of each layer and transverse displacement of the plate as the state variables at a nodal point of finite element, resulting in total nodal degree of freedom of 2(n+l) +1 for the n-layered laminate. Thus, it allows to specify displacement boundary conditions of layer stretching and/or rotation of layer cross sections around the plate edge and/or lateral displacement. The developed procedure is applied to the free vibration problem for sandwich-type hybrid laminates composed of layers with drastically different material properties whose elasticity solutions are known. Comparison of analysis results with other FEM solutions showed that the present formulation yields better accuracy.

  • In this study, the relationship between flow characteristics and projection distance, depending on the shape was examined. A numerical investigation technique for fluid analysis of a foam monitor was developed for the prediction, comparison and validation of the actual injection performance. The foam monitor changes the flow pattern of fluid flow according to the shape, The fluid losses were calculated from the numerical investigation affecting the projection distance. The basic form of foam monitor was used as a designed shape in N. The modified model used the length increase model of the flow path, and straight line of the model. The inlet pressure was 6.5bar. The results showed that the length increase model of the flow path and straight line of the model in the nozzle projection distance had improved. The results comparing the error rates projection performance were well matched to the 7.43% obtained from the validity test of the analysis method.
