  • In the Information Retrieval System. the relevance of retrieved items is determined by the judgement of the user and thus the evaluation of the system efficiency counts on the cognizance of users to some extent. The relevance feedback mechanism provides a device allowing iterative searches during which the query can be modified and refined based on user input from the relevant documents. The feedback system are generally reported to outperform non-feedback systems. The procedures and algorithms to implement the feedback mechanism are surveyed in this paper.

  • We present a state-space approach to make non-square linear systems strictly passive by using an input-dimensional parallel feedforward compensator. A necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of the parallel feedforward compensator is given by the static output feedback formulation, which enables to utilize linear matrix inequality. By modifying the structure of the compensator the additional technical assumption in the previous result [1] is removed. The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated by some numerical examples which can be stabilized by the proportional-derivative (PD) and proportional-derivative-integral (PID) control laws. The proposed control scheme can successfully replace the measurements of derivative terms in the control laws.

  • In this paper, a turbidostat model with ratio-dependent growth rate and impulsive state feedback control is considered. We obtain sufficient conditions of the globally asymptotically stable of the system without impulsive state feedback control. We also obtain that the system with impulsive state feedback control has periodic solution of order one. Sufficient conditions for existence and stability of periodic solution of order one are given. In some cases, it is possible that the system exists periodic solution of order two. Our results show that the control measure is effective and reliable.

  • For compensation of channel distortion from multipath fading and impulsive noise, a decision feedback equalizer (DFE) algorithm based on minimization of Error entropy (MEE) is proposed. The MEE criterion has not been studied for DFE structures and impulsive noise environments either. By minimizing the error entropy with respect to equalizer weight based on decision feedback structures, the proposed decision feedback algorithm has shown to have superior capability of residual intersymbol interference cancellation in simulation environments with severe multipath and impulsive noise.

  • This paper pretends to study the potentialities of feedback, particularly in the development of a written report in two phases and in portfolio; and the main difficulties that teachers has to face concerning this assessment practice. Through a meta-analysis concerning different studies, it is possible to say that oral or written feedback, intentionally provided to students of several ages, may enable them to develop their self-assessment capacity and to get close of the expected product. However, the type of student and his or her perceptions may influence the effectiveness of feedback. Even for experience teachers, this practice maintains complex.

  • In this paper, we develop a haptic mouse system for immersive human computer interaction. The proposed haptic mouse system can provide vibrotactile feedback as well as thermal feedback for realistic virtual experience. For vibrotactile and thermal feedback, we use eccentric motors, a solenoid, and a peltier actuator. In order to evaluate the proposed haptic mouse, we implement a racing game prototype system. The experimental result shows that our haptic mouse is expected to be useful in experiencing virtual world.

  • This paper presents a state feedback $H^{\infty}$ controller design method for linear systems with delayed states and inputs. We derive a sufficient condition that the closed-loop system is asymptotically stable for all time-delays and that the $H^{\infty}$-norm of the closed-loop transfer function is less than or equal to some prescribed level $\gamma$. And we propose a sufficient condition for the existence of a state feedback $H^{\infty}$ controller using a form of linear matrix inequality(LMI). Furthermore, we show that the state feedback $H^{\infty}$ controllers can be obtained from solutions satisfying LMI.

  • This paper proposes an optimum, problematic design for structural and control systems, taking a 3-D truss structure as an example. The structure is subjected to initial static loads and time-varying disturbances. The structure is controlled by a state feedback H$_{\infty}$ controller which suppress the effects of disturbances. The design variables are the cross sectional areas of truss members. The structural objective function is the structural weight. For the control objective, we consider two types of performance indices, The first function represents the effect of the initial loads. The second function is the norm of the feedback gain, These objective functions are in conflict with each other but are transformed into one control objective by the weighting method. The structural objectives is treated as the constraint, By introducing the second control objective which considers the magnitude of the feedback gain, we can create a design to model errors.

  • In this paper, we consider the stabilization and $H_\infty$ control of linear systems with static output feedback control. The static output feedback control represents the simplest closed-loop control that can be realized in practice, and, moreover, it is less expensive to be implemented and is more reliable. In spite of its advantages, it is one of the open problems which is not sloved analytically or numerically yet. After decompose the closed-loop system into feedback form, by adopting the small gain theorem, we obtain a sufficient condition for stabilization and a sufficient condition for It control expressed as linear matrix inequalites. Finally, we show the usefulness of our results by a numerical example.

  • In this paper, a new discrete static output feedback variable structure controller based on a new dynamic-type sliding surface and output feedback discrete version of the disturbance observer is suggested for the control of uncertain linear systems. The reaching phase is completely removed by introducing a new proposed dynamic-type sliding surface. The output feedback discrete version of disturbance observer is derived for effective compensation of uncertainties and disturbance. A corresponding control with disturbance compensation is selected to guarantee the quasi sliding mode on the predetermined dynamic-type sliding surface for guaranteeing the designed output in the dynamic-type sliding surface from any initial condition for all the parameter variations and disturbances. Using Lyapunov function, the closed loop stability and the existence condition of the quasi sliding mode is proved. Finally, an illustrative example is presented to show the effectiveness of the algorithm.
