  • During solidification or welding of alloys, the solute redistribution brings out microsegregation. The microsegregation causes the formation of non-equilibrium second phases, shrinkage and porosity degrading mechanical/chemical properties Therefore, it has been required to predict microsegregation quantitatively. To predict the degree of microsegregation, more exact and appropriate computer simulation technique has been actively used during last two decades. To predict the degree of microsegregation in weld metal, an advanced two dimensional model was suggested. In the new model, both primary and secondary arm regions were defined for the analysis region. The growth in the primary arm regina was assumed to be a planar for effective calculation. Especially, for the growth of a secondary arm, a simple and effective mathematical function was established to show the growing pattern, the solute diffusion in the solid phase was calculated by finite difference method (FDM). The solid-liquid interface movement was considered to be in local equilibrium state. The experiments for welding of 310S stainless steel were carried out in order to examined the reasonability and feasibility of this model. The concentration profiles of the solute predicted by this model were compared with those obtained from experimental works.

  • This paper proposes an adequate UWA (Underwater Acoustic) communication system of underwater communication network in the Yellow Sea. UWA channel is obtained from Bellhop ray tracing method with Yellow Sea environments. Based on this channel, communication parameters for CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) and SC-FDM (Single Carrier-Frequency Division Multiplexing) using diversity techniques are calculated. In order to prove the proposed methods, BER (Bit Error Rate) and data rate are obtained using computer simulations and the adequate communication system for long rms delay spread and low Eb/No environments is proposed from the simulation.

  • Most of agricultural structures located in seashore could not avoid rapid deterioration of concrete because chloride-ion and $CO_2$ gradually penetrate into concrete. However, since most of models can be able to describe the phenomenon of penetration by using one or two dimensional models based on finite difference method (FDM), those modes can not simulate the real geometry and it takes a lot of computational time to complete even the calculation. To overcome those weaknesses, three dimensional numerical model considering time dependent variables such as surface concentration of chloride and diffusion coefficient of domain based on finite element method (FEM) was suggested. This model also included the neutralization occurred by the penetration of $CO_2$. Because the model used various sizes of tetrahedral mesh instead of equivalent rectangular mesh, it reduced the computational time to compare with FDM. As this model is based on FEM, it will be easily extended to execute multi-physics simulation including water evaporation and temperature change of concrete.

  • Finite difference method using not general SSG(standard staggered grid) but RSG(rotated staggered grid) was applied to simulation of elastic wave propagation. Special free surface boundary condition such as imaging method is needed in finite difference method using SSG in elastic wave propagation but free surface boundary condition in finite difference method using RSG is easily solved with adding air layer. Recently PML(Perfectly Matched layer) is widely used to eliminate artificial reflection waves from finite boundary because of its' greate efficiency. Absorbing ability of CPML(convolutional Perfectly Matched Layer) that is more efficient than that of PML was applied to FDM using RSG in this study. The results of CPML eliminated artificial boundary waves very effectively in FDM using RSG in being compared with that of Cerjan's absorbing method.

  • In this paper, deformation behavior of shallow subway tunnel excavated in weathered soil and reinforcement effects of longitudinal support measures are investigated via three dimensional FDM analysis. Two excavation methods, half-face excavation and full-face excavation, are considered in simulation to study the influences of excavation methods on tunnel deformation behavior. In addition, the reinforcing effects of RPUM and fiberglass pipe are compared. Face extrusion, covergence, preconvergence, and sidewall displacement are investigated to analyze tunnel deformation behavior, and surface settlement is used to analyze the effects of excavation methods and longitudinal supports measures. The simulation results show that half-face excavation induces larger convergence, preconvergence, sidewall displacement, surface settlement than full-face excavation, while full-face excavation induces larger extrusion than half-face excavation. In addition, under same excavation method, all displacements are larger when RPUM is only used for longitudinal support than when RPUM is jointly used with fiberglass pipes.

  • The Agricultural Systems Application Platform (ASAP) provides bottom-up modelling and simulation environment for agricultural engineer. The purpose of this study is to expand usability of the ASAP to the second order partial differential equations: elliptic equations, parabolic equations, and hyperbolic equations. The ASAP is a general-purpose simulation tool which express natural phenomenon with capsulized independent components to simplify implementation and maintenance. To use the ASAP in continuous problems, it is necessary to solve partial differential equations. This study shows usage of the ASAP in elliptic problem, parabolic problem, and hyperbolic problem, and solves of static heat problem, heat transfer problem, and wave problem as examples. The example problems are solved with the ASAP and Finite Difference method (FDM) for verification. The ASAP shows identical results to FDM. These applications are useful to simulate the engineering problem including equilibrium, diffusion and wave problem.

  • This study is concerned to the perforation phenomena of the oblique dual-plate by projectile. Experiment and simulation related to that was carried out. the variables considered in this phenomena include the electrolytic zinc coated steel sheet and carbon steel rod. In the former, the confirmation and projectile velocity possible phenomena of real phenomena is done, the latter, the effect of parameter such as time-step and grid space length is analized by using the three-dimensional Lagrangian explicit time-integration finite element code, HEMP. this code use the eight node hexahedral elements and in this study, Von-Mises Criteria is used as the strength model, Mie-Gruneisen is as the Equation of State. the simulation was performed by contrast with the experiment. through the calibration of the parameter of lagrangian code, reasonable result was approached.

  • Being focused on the recent studies that the fatigue strength of resistance spot weldmentes can be improved by using ellipsoidal weld nuggets, the voltage and temperature distribution in resistance spot weldments were simulated for the various rectangular electrodes which had the different aspect ratio of the contact area. Because the electrode shape was not axi-symmetric, the solution domain for simulation should be three dimensional. A series of experiments were carred out to verify the analytically obtained temperature distribution in the weldment. From the calculational and experimental results, it could be revealed that the nugget took the form of ellipsoid, while both results showed a considerable discrepancy for the high aspect ratio.

  • The fluoescent lamp has been successfully modeled by employing the radial variation of particle density and considering driving circuit effects on the characteristics of discharge process. The electron energy distribution is assumed to have a Maxwellian. The electron mobility and the ambipolar diffusion coefficients are considered to vary with an electron energy rather than a simple uniform value. Energy states of mercury atom in the discharge process are regarded as six levels rather than simple 4 or 5 levels. These discharge processes have been accurately solved by numerically employing mixed the FDM and the 2nd Runge-Kutta method. This model was applied to analyzing real circuit. Simulation and experimental results were presented to verify the feasibility of the modeling. Simulation and experimental results were presented to verify the feasibility of the modeling.

  • A computer simulation technique for 2-dimensional laser generated ultrasonic waves was developed for visualization and investigation of ultrasonic propagation in solids. The technique is similar to a finite difference method (FDM) and a mass-particle model method, but uses a new nodal calculation method based on fundamental consideration of an elastic wave equation. By this method, the propagation behavior oflaser generated ultrasonic wave in thermoelastic and ablation mode is visualized and shows good agreement with previous experimental result or the numerical analysis result by Green function.
