A Fast Intra Skip Detection Algorithm for H.264/AVC Video Encoding

  • A fast intra skip detection algorithm based on the ratedistortion (RD) cost for an inter frame (P-slices) is proposed for H.264/AVC video encoding. In the H.264/AVC coding standard, a robust rate-distortion optimization technique is used to select the best coding mode and reference frame for each macroblock (MB). There are three types of intra predictions according to profiles. These are $16{\times}16$ and $4{\times}4$ intra predictions for luminance and an $8{\times}8$ intra prediction for chroma. For the high profile, an $8{\times}8$ intra prediction has been added for luminance. The $4{\times}4$ prediction mode has 9 prediction directions with 4 directions for $16{\times}16$ and $8{\times}8$ luma, and $8{\times}8$ chrominance. In addition to the inter mode search procedure, an intra mode search causes a significant increase in the complexity and computational load for an inter frame. To reduce the computational load of the intra mode search at the inter frame, the RD costs of the neighborhood MBs for the current MB are used and we propose an adaptive thresholding scheme for the intra skip extraction. We verified the performance of the proposed scheme through comparative analysis of experimental results using joint model reference software. The overall encoding time was reduced up to 32% for the IPPP sequence type and 35% for the IBBPBBP sequence type.

오픈소스 하드웨어에서 효율적인 임베디드 소프트웨어 개발을 위한 프레임워크 (Framework for efficient development of embedded software in open source hardware)

  • 무선인터넷이 보급되고 IoT 기술이 발달함에 따라 여러 종류의 센서 디바이스가 발전하였다. 그리고 IoT 환경에서 사용자들의 요구를 충족하는 다양한 서비스 개발을 위해 오픈소스 하드웨어가 도입되었다. 하지만 오픈소스 하드웨어는 개발 인력의 부족으로 인해 충분히 활용되지 못하고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 오픈소스 하드웨어에서 효율적으로 임베디드 소프트웨어 개발을 교육하기 위한 소프트웨어 프레임워크를 제안한다. 제안하는 프레임워크는 비주얼 프로그래밍 언어와 빠른 결과 확인을 통해 다양한 오픈소스 하드웨어에서 빠르고 직관적으로 임베디드 소프트웨어를 개발할 수 있게 한다. 또한 제안한 프레임워크를 실제 오픈소스 하드웨어 개발 환경에 구현하여 장단점을 분석하고 개선방안을 확인하였다.

Word-Based FCSRs with Fast Software Implementations

  • Feedback with carry shift registers (FCSRs) over 2-adic number would be suitable in hardware implementation, but the are not efficient in software implementation since their basic unit (the size of register clls) is 1-bit. In order to improve the efficiency we consider FCSRs over $2^{\ell}$-adic number (i.e., FCSRs with register cells of size ${\ell}$-bit) that produce ${\ell}$ bits at every clocking where ${\ell}$ will be taken as the size of normal words in modern CPUs (e.g., ${\ell}$ = 32). But, it is difficult to deal with the carry that happens when the size of summation results exceeds that of normal words. We may use long variables (declared with 'unsigned _int64' or 'unsigned long long') or conditional operators (such as 'if' statement) to handle the carry, but both the arithmetic operators over long variables and the conditional operators are not efficient comparing with simple arithmetic operators (such as shifts, maskings, xors, modular additions, etc.) over variables of size ${\ell}$-hit. In this paper, we propose some conditions for FCSRs over $2^{\ell}$-adic number which admit fast software implementations using only simple operators. Moreover, we give two implementation examples for the FCSRs. Our simulation result shows that the proposed methods are twice more efficient than usual methods using conditional operators.

WiMedia MAC DRP 프로토콜에서 효율적인 영상 스트리밍 서비스를 위한 Fast MAS 재조정 기법 (Fast MAS Reallocation Method for Efficient Video Streaming Service of WiMedia MAC DRP)

  • 본 논문은 WiMedia 시스템의 DRP 예약 과정에서 발생하는 충돌을 실시간으로 회피할 수 있는 Fast MAS 재조정 기법을 제안한다. WiMedia MAC DRP는 예약 전송을 기반으로 주기적으로 발생하는 음성 및 영상 전송의 QoS 지원을 목표로 고안되었다. 그러나 기존 WiMedia 시스템은 영상 스트리밍 서비스의 경우 발생하는 데이터의 사이즈의 변화에 따라 예약 과정에서 충돌이 빈번하게 발생하는 문제가 있으며 지연에 민감한 영상 스트리밍 서비스의 QoS를 보장할 수 없다. Fast MAS 재조정 기법은 실시간으로 다른 기기의 예약 정보를 분석하여 충돌이 예상될 경우 즉시 회피하여 보다 효율적인 영상 스트리밍 서비스를 지원할 수 있다. 제안된 기법은 영상 스트리밍 서비스 상황을 고려한 소프트웨어 시뮬레이션을 통해 화질 향상 정도를 평가하였으며 실시간으로 동작하기 위해 하드웨어 및 소프트웨어로 구현되어 WiMedia MAC/PHY 통합 시스템에서 동작함을 검증하였다.

  • Software product line is a software product or a set of software system, which has common functions. We can develop a specific software product, which satisfies requirements of a particular market segment and a mission in a specific domain by reusing the core asset such as the developed software architecture through the software product line. Software development methodology based on the software product line can develop a software more easily and fast by reusing the developed software core asset. Developed countries of software technology select software product line as a core field of software production technology, and support technology development. In case of USA, CMU/SEI(Carnegie Mellon University/Software Engineering Institute) developed product-line framework 4.0 together with the industry and the Department of Defense. Europe is supporting the development of product line technology through ITEA(IT for European Advancement) program. However, industries in our country understand the necessity of software production technology based on product line concept for the purpose of increasing productivity, it is not sufficient to invest for this technology development. In this paper, we aim to construct the common architecture of software product line for production of the software product line.

  • Several algorithmic models have been proposed to estimate software cost and other management parameters. In particular, early prediction of completion time is absolutely essential for proper advance planning and a version of the possible ruin of a project. However, estimation is difficult because of its similarity to export judgment approaches and for its potential as an expert assistant in support of human judgment. Especially, the nature of the Norden/Rayleigh curve used by Putnam, renders it unreliable during the initial phases of the project, in projects involving a fast manpower buildup, as is the case with most software projects. Estimating software development effort is more complexity, because of infrastructure software related to target-machines hardware and process characteristics should be considered in software development for DCS (Distributed Control System). In this paper, we propose software development effort estimation technique using adaptive neural fuzzy inference system. The methods is applied to case-based projects and discussed.

Operation-level Early Termination Algorithm for Inter-predictions in HEVC

  • The emerging High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard attempts to improve coding efficiency by a factor of two over H.264/Advanced Video Coding (AVC) at the expense of an increase in computational complexity. Mode decision with motion estimation (ME) is still one of the most time-consuming computations in HEVC, as it is with H.264/AVC. Thus, fast mode decisions are not only an important issue to be researched, but also an urgent one. Several schemes for fast mode decisions have been presented in reference software and in other studies. However, the conventional hierarchical mode decision can be useless when block-level parallelism is exploited. This paper proposes operation-level exploration that offers more chances for early termination. An early termination condition is checked between integer and fractional MEs and between the parts of one partition type. The fast decision points of the proposed algorithm do not overlap those in previous works. Thus, the proposed algorithms are easily used with other fast algorithms, and consequently, independent speed-up is possible.

  • The flow from developing a machine learning model to deploying it in a production environment suffers challenges. Efficient and reliable deployment is critical for realizing the true value of machine learning models. Bridging this gap between development and publication has become a pivotal concern in the machine learning community. FastAPI, a modern and fast web framework for building APIs with Python, has gained substantial popularity for its speed, ease of use, and asynchronous capabilities. This paper focused on leveraging FastAPI for deploying machine learning models, addressing the potentials associated with integration, scalability, and performance in a production setting. In this work, we explored the seamless integration of machine learning models into FastAPI applications, enabling real-time predictions and showing a possibility of scaling up for a more diverse range of use cases. We discussed the intricacies of integrating popular machine learning frameworks with FastAPI, ensuring smooth interactions between data processing, model inference, and API responses. This study focused on elucidating the integration of machine learning models into production environments using FastAPI, exploring its capabilities, features, and best practices. We delved into the potential of FastAPI in providing a robust and efficient solution for deploying machine learning systems, handling real-time predictions, managing input/output data, and ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

HEVC 부호화기 소프트웨어의 통계적 특성 및 복잡도 분석 (Statistical Characteristics and Complexity Analysis of HEVC Encoder Software)

  • 본 논문에서는 현재 표준화가 진행 중인 HEVC (high efficiency video coding) 부호화기의 고속화, 최적화, 병렬화 연구에 앞서 통계적 특성 및 복잡도 분석을 수행하였다. HEVC는 H.264/AVC에 비해 약 2배의 압축 성능을 나타내지만 부호화기 복잡도는 크게 증가하여 이는 앞으로 해결해야할 문제로 남아있다. HEVC의 높은 부호화기 복잡도를 해결하기 위한 고속화, 최적화, 병렬화 연구에 앞서, 본 논문에서는 HEVC 참조소프트웨어인 HM 7.1을 이용하여 HEVC 부호화기의 복잡도를 측정하였다. 추가적으로, 실제 응용에서 사용될 고속 HEVC 부호화기 소프트웨어에 대한 예상 복잡도를 고속 알고리듬이 적용된 HM 7.1 소프트웨어로 측정하였다. 복잡도 측정은 공통 실험 영상 및 조건을 사용하였으며 PC 환경에서 부호화기 소프트웨어의 동작 사이클을 측정하고 이를 분석하였다. 또한, 부호화를 통해 생성된 비트스트림을 이용하여 HEVC 부호화기 소프트웨어의 부호화 구조에 따른 통계적 특성과 제한적 부호화에 따른 통계적 특성에 대하여 제시하고 이를 분석한다.

획득 프로세스를 고려한 소프트웨어 비용 산정방안 (Software Cost Estimation Considering Acquisition Process)

  • Recently, Korean software industry has enjoyed fast growth, thus phenomenon drew attention to the need for more precise and standardized cost estimation system for software development. However, many obstacles exist in achieving a more precise and universally applicable cost measurement. These obstacles include : (1) the intangible nature of intellectual efforts, (2) lack of cost standards, (3) lack of quantitative yardstick to determine the potential complication, (4) lack of both cost monitoring during development and coordinating between acquisition process and cost estimation. The purpose of this study is to facilitate software development cost estimation considering acquisition process that will meet korean user's needs, and to create better models that will be cost for software development particularly for Korean environment.
