More effective control means for line flow and bus voltage are required for appling FACTS. In this paper, the power flow calculation method for deriving FACTS control parameters based on current injection model(CIM) and newton method. Integrated scheme for ATC calculation considering dynamic characteristic of power system is suggested. Study is based on the IEEE 57-bus system demonstrate the effectiveness of FACTS control on ATC enhancement.

  • The flexible AC transmissions system (FACTS) is the underpinning concept upon which are based promising means to avoid effectively power flow bottlenecks and ways to extend the loadability of existing power transmission networks. This paper proposes a method by which the optimal locations of the FACTS to be installed in power system under cost function. The optimal solution of this type of problem requires large scale nonlinear optimization techniques. We used Lagrange multipliers to solve a nonlinear equation with equality and ineaquality constraints. Case studies on the standard IEEE 14 bus system show that the method can be implemented successfully and that it is effective for determining the optimal location of the FACTS.

  • FACTS(Flexible AC Transmission System) 기기들은 전력계통의 경제적이고 안정적인 운용과 제어에 더 많은 유연성을 제공할 수 있다.

  • An Interline Power Flow Controller (IPFC) is a converter based controller which compensates and balance the power flow among multi-lines within the same corridor of the multi-line subsystem. The Interline Power Flow Controller consists of a voltage source converter based Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) controller for series compensation. The reactive voltage injected by individual Voltage Source Converter (VSC) can be controlled to regulate active power flow in the respective line in which one VSC regulates the DC voltage, the other one controls the reactive power flows in the lines by injecting series active voltage. In this paper, a circuit model for IPFC is developed and simulation of interline power flow controller is done using the proposed circuit model. Simulation is done using MATLAB Simulink and PSPICE. The results obtained by MATLAB are compared with the results obtained by PSPICE and compared with theoretical values.

  • This paper presents a study performed to investigate the steady-state operational strategies of UPFCs in the Jeollanam-Do system in Korea. The objective of the study was to determine the UPFC operating points under normal and contingency conditions. The study consists of developing load flow models to simulate different load levels with and without UPFCs in the system, assessing the effectiveness of UPFCs by contingency analysis, and introducing optimal corrective actions for removing voltage problems caused by contingencies. The paper describes analytical tools, models and approach. It also includes analysis and discussion of the study results. The paper contributes to the area of transmission operational studies with FACTS applications.

  • Penetration and installation of a new dynamic technology known as Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) in a practical and dynamic network requires and force expert engineer to develop robust and flexible strategy for planning and control. Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) is one of the recent and effective FACTS devices designed for multi control operation to enhance the power system security. This paper presents a dynamic strategy based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for optimal parameters setting of UPFC to enhance the system loadability. Firstly, we perform a multi power flow analysis with load incrementation to construct a global database to determine the initial efficient bounds associated to active power and reactive power target vector. Secondly a PSO technique applied to search the new parameters setting of the UPFC within the initial new active power and reactive power target bounds. The proposed approach is implemented with Matlab program and verified with IEEE 30-Bus test network. The results show that the proposed approach can converge to the near optimum solution with accuracy, and confirm that flexible multi-control of this device coordinated with efficient location enhance the system security of power system by eliminating the overloaded lines and the bus voltage violation.

  • This paper describes the operation effect of FACTS devices in the Korean power system. At the year of 2010, three FACTS devices is under commercial operation in the Seoul area. Among them, 345kV ${\pm}100MVA$ STATCOM at Mi-Geum substation and 345kV ${\pm}200MVA$ SVC at Dong-Seoul substation are very close at their electrical and geographical distance. Therefore, the additional analysis including interaction and mutual transient is necessary. Therefore, a detailed EMTDC/PSCAD simulation model was developed and steady-state/transient analysis was implemented.
