  • Due to the dramatic industrialization in Korea, rural area has been degraded with incurable problems including community aging, emptying and liabilities overburdens. Rural amenity, the intangible resources that the rural area itself has, is regarded as a breakthrough that can revitalize the rural communities. In fact, the rural area and communities have lots of amenity resources that have been overlooked. Rural area has kept traditions and open green spaces which are highlighted in these days since the life quality has been upgraded and working days in a week was cut off to 5 days. Institute of Rural Resources Development realized the importance of rural amenities and offered the nation wide survey project for rural amenity resources. In this article, the survey project that was implemented by the Korean Society of Rural Planning was narrated in terms of methodologies and procedures. Also the results and the problems were addressed.

Analysis of Water Quality Pollutants Proximated to sediment in Lake (호소내 퇴적물의 근접도에 따른 수질오염물질 분석(I) - COD, T-N, T-P, pH -)

  • The study was carried out to analysis of the pollutant $COD_{Mn}$, T-N, T-P for water quality proximated to sediment in lake of K river basin. water extracted from sediment showed higher $COD_{Mn}$, T-N, T-P datas than water proximated to sediment. Also, water proximated to sediment and water 5-10cm proximated to sediment showed the following data : $COD_{Mn}$, 1.2~1.9mg/L, T-N, 1.3~6.2mg/L, TP, 0.05~0.26mg/L, respectively. From this results, we have known the fact that the pollution degree of sediment have an effect on the water quality in lake and stream.

Evaluation on the Contents of Antioxidative Substance at the Different Layers in Several Rice Varieties (몇 가지 벼품종 현미층위별 항산화 물질의 함량 평가)

  • Fifteen varieties of Oryza sativa mainly includig those of Korean native rice were exactly cutted into three layers such as L$_1$ layer (the outer part of 90% from rice center), L$_2$ layer(the part of 81 ~ 91% from the rice center) and L$_3$ layer(the inner part of 80% from the rice center) and ferulic acid derivatives, which play an important role of antioxidative action, were quantitiavely analyzed by UV absorption spectrometric method at fixed 314nm. From this experiment, it was found that the more it enters from the surface into the rice center, the more those secondary metabolites contents were highly reduced. The varieties showing contents more than 20 mg/g were as follows: Hwasunchalbyeo(25.8mg/g), Jojeongdo(24.1mg/g), Suwon425(21.2mg/g), Daigolbyeo(20.6mg/g) and Nonglimna 1(20.2mg/g) by this order. Estimation onthe anthocyanin contents of both Suwon 425 and Sanghehanghyeolna revealed that its total. contents were very exactly close each other. However, it was charateristically differentiated in the contents of L$_2$ layer with respect to showing a considerably higher content of Suwon 425 than of Sanghaehanghyeolna. Conclusively, the selected Suwon 425 variety, which is coloured and flavour volatile one, showed relatively higher contents of anthocyanin, ferulic acid derivatives in the L$_2$ layer as well as L$_1$ layer when compared with Sanghaehangyeolna and even other varieties. This fact suggested that Suwon 425 could be a promising candidate for the development of health rice food.

  • This study was to investigate the changes of shape of the lower limb surface, the rate of the measurement of expansion and contraction and correlation coefficient between variables caused by hip joint and knee joint movements. The results of the investigation are as follows; 1. According to the development figure of shell when the leg was raised $45^{\circ}$forward($M_{2}$), total length of F.L shortened while B.L lengthened. This result is contarary to $M_{3}$raising the leg $15^{\circ}$ backward. In both $M_{2}$, $M_{3}$movements, the rate of expansion and contraction to the course direction was insignificant. When hip joint was bent $15^{\circ}$ with knee joint $120^{\circ}$bent ($M_{4}$) and hip joint was bent $30^{\circ}$ with knee joint $90^{\circ}$ bent($M_{5}$), upper section of back hip expanded while the front hip section contracted slightly. In the Movement of sitting on the chair($M_{6}$), abdomen, front hip section and upper thight section contracted to the wale direction remarkably while the back hip section expanded conspicuously. 2. According to the rate of expansion and contraction of skin (surface) by the somatometry. In $M_{2}$, C.F.L. upper and middle thight girth contracted and B.L, C.L, L.L expanded. This fact is contarary to M3. In M4, M5, C.F.L showed remarkable contraction and C.B.L expanded remarkably. In $M_{6}$, C.B.L contracted most of all the items measured and knee girth, F.L, L.L, C.B.L, hip girth expanded conspicuously. 3. According to the correlation coefficient between variables. In various movements, the correlation among girth items commonly showed a high or middle grade, the correlation among length items also commonly showed a low grade and that girth and length items showed a very low grade commonly. Waist girth, hip grith, F.L, B.L, L.L items showed that there were significant correlation.

The Study of Discourse Markers (담화표시어 연구)

  • As the world becomes a global village, national conferences become more frequent, and the language of choice to mediate the exchange of information is English. Accordingly, the purpose of this research is to find several methods to prepare L2 students for English communication at conferences. Various studies about discourse markers can be found in this study. Discourse markers are indicators of fluency in spoken language, and indicators of improvement from features of spoken English to more typical forms of formal writing. In this study the presentation styles of native speakers and Asian non-native speakers are compared, and the difference between efficient and non-efficient speakers at conferences are discussed. As a study of conference English teaching and learning method, this research targets suggestion and application of discourse markers for L2 speakers. As a result, the fact that discourse markers are very important in effective writing and conference English is found and accordingly we can see that developing the ability to use discourse markers in writing and speaking are essential for L2 speakers.

  • Most of the shipbuilding scheduling researches so far have been conducted with stress on the dock plan. That is due to the fact that the dock is the least extendable resource in shipyards and its overloading is difficult to resolve. However, once the dock scheduling is completed, it is also important to make a plan that make the best use of the rest of the resources in the shipyard, so that any additional cost is minimized. This study automates block allocation process by analyzing the existing manual process that designates production bays for the blocks during the midterm planning. Also, a planning scenario validation method is suggested, where block allocation scenarios based on diagrams are edited and simulated.

Cytotoxic and Cytotoxicity-Potentiating Effects of the Curcuma Root on L1210 Cell

  • A cytotoxic sesquiterpene against L1210 cell has been isolated from the root of Curcuma domestica. Its structure was identified as ${\beta}-sesquiphellandrene$. The cytotoxicity-potentiating substance was (+)-ar-turmerone. (+)-ar-Turmerone potentiated the cytotoxicity of ${\beta}-sesquiphellandrene$(5 fold in $ED_{50}$ value) and an unknown sesquiterpene which was isolated from the root as well, and that of aurapten(6.3 fold) isolated from the unripe fruit of Poncirus trifoliata. Moreover, it potentiated the cytotoxic activities of MeCCNU 10 fold and cyclophosphamide 10 fold. Except the fact that all the effective cytotoxic substances possess relatively good lipophilicity, no relationship between structures of the cytotoxic substances and the cytotoxicity-enhancing effect of (+)-ar-turmerone could be observed.

Enhanced Cell Growth of Chlorella sp. KR-l by the Addition of Iron and EDTA

  • The effects of iron and EDTA on the growth of Chlorella sp. KR-1, a highly$CO_2$tolerant fresh water micro alga, have been determined. The algal growth was significantly affected not only by iron concentrations in the medium but by the ratio of iron to EDTA. The linear growth rate and the final cell concentration are increased with the supplementation of EDTA. Enhanced growth of Chlorella sp. KR-1 by the supplementation of EDTA was mainly due to the fact that the supply of iron to the algal culture had been possible for a longer time. When Chlorella sp. KR-1 is cultured in the medium of iron-15H-EDTA, the linear growth rate and the final cell concentration are at their maximum, 0.88 g/l${\cdot}$day and 9.1 g/l, respectively. The results show that Chlorella sp. KR-1 may be used for mass cultivation to fix$CO_2$from stack gases.

  • The aim of this work is to generalize $L_1$-approximation in order to apply them to a discrete approximation. In $L_1$-approximation, we use the norm given by $${\parallel}f{\parallel}_1={\int}{\mid}f{\mid}d{\mu}$$ where ${\mu}$ a non-atomic positive measure. In this paper, we go to the other extreme and consider measure ${\mu}$ which is purely atomic. In fact we shall assume that ${\mu}$ has exactly m atoms. For any ${\ell}$-tuple $b^1,\;{\cdots},\;b^{\ell}{\in}{\mathbb{R}}^m$, we defined the ${\ell}^m_1{w}$-norn, and consider $s^*{\in}S$ such that, for any $b^1,\;{\cdots},\;b^{\ell}{\in}{\mathbb{R}}^m$, $$\array{min&max\\{s{\in}S}&{1{\leq}i{\leq}{\ell}}}\;{\parallel}b^i-s{\parallel}_w$$, where S is a n-dimensional subspace of ${\mathbb{R}}^m$. The $s^*$ is called the Chebyshev center or a discrete simultaneous ${\ell}^m_1$-approximation from the finite dimensional subspace.

Synergic Effects among Endo-xylanase, $\beta$-Xylosidase, and $\alpha$-L-Arabinofuranosidase from Bacillus stearothermophilus

  • Synergism among endo-xylanase, $\beta$-xylosidase, and $\alpha$-L-arabinofuranosidase from Bacillus stearothermophilus upon xylan hydrolysis was investigated by using birchwood, oat spelt, and arabinoxylan as substrates. Endo-xylanase and $\beta$-xylosidase showed the cooperative action on all three substrates tested, revealing the fact that $\beta$-xylosidase assists endo-xylanase action in xylan hydrolysis by relieving the endproduct inhibition upon endo-xylanase conferred by xylooligomers. $\alpha$-L-Arabinofuranosidase also exhibited synergic effects with endo-xylanase and $\beta$-xylosidase on oat spelt and arabinoxylan, which contained significant amounts of arabinose side chains, whereas no synergism was detected on birchwood xylan which had only trace amounts of the side chain. Thus, the hydrolysis of xylan containing arabinose side chains required $\alpha$-L-arabinofuranosidase as well as endo-xylanase and $\beta$-xylosidase for the better hydrolysis of the substrates, and these enzymes work cooperatively in order to maximize the extent and rate of xylan hydrolysis.
