  • As the university's academic management was not carried out smoothly due to COVID-19, and most of them were conducted as non-face-to-face classes, students' dropout is steadily increasing. In this study focus group interviews were conducted to analyze physics students and professors' recognition of the COVID-19 non-face-to-face class environment. Based on the results, the implications of non-face-to-face classes for physics education were presented. Physics students described their feelings about un-tact teaching as 'the class in which the body is comfortable but the mind is uncomfortable', 'a person who is smarter than me seems to explain a book, reading it' and 'a short clip lecture which may be comfortable but cause losses to me', while the professors also described them as 'a fully transformed class system' and 'a online class putting much burden on me'. Regarding school dropout, students said that the concerns about dropout during non-face-to-face classes were deepened about transfer or transfer. The professors said that the department atmosphere had lost vitality due to the increase in non-face-to-face classes and academic dropouts, and had a lot of worries because of the recruitment rate and external university evaluation. The implications of the COVID-19 non-face-to-face class situation for physics education suggest that it is required to strengthen the interaction between professors and students, finding ways to enhance the sense of reality to supplement laboratory classes and giving opportunities to professors to share their pedagogical contents knowledge in physics.

  • This study was done to identify the face-to-face and non-face-to-face student counseling experiences of nursing students during the COVID-19 period. Data were collected through interviews with 10 students at S Women's University in Gyeonggi-do from December 2022 to April 2023. All recorded data were analyzed using an inductive content analysis method. As a result of the study, two themes, four categories, and eight subcategories were found. Themes were 'factors promoting counseling' and 'Non-facilitating factors in counseling'. The first theme category was 'adaptation to new counseling methods' and 'pursuing convenience as the MZ generation', and the second theme category was 'resistance to counselling' and 'discrepancy from the desire for mutual relationships'. Through this study, it was helpful to understand that student counseling is essential for nursing students and what the most appropriate and useful counseling method is. Additionally, this study provided important evidence to lay the foundation for comparative research on face-to-face and non-face-to-face counseling among research participants according to gender and major. Further suggests research to develop a student counseling program for nursing students and confirm its effectiveness.

  • To study the effects of foam core density and face-sheet thickness on the mechanical properties and failure modes of aluminum foam sandwich (AFS) beam, especially when the aluminum foam core is made in aluminum alloy and the face sheet thickness is less than 1.5 mm, three-point bending tests were investigated experimentally by using WDW-50E electronic universal tensile testing machine. Load-displacement curves were recorded to understand the mechanical response and photographs were taken to capture the deformation process of the composite structures. Results demonstrated that when foam core was combined with face-sheet thickness of 0.8 mm, its carrying capacity improved with the increase of core density. But when the thickness of face-sheet increased from 0.8 mm to 1.2 mm, result was opposite. For AFS with the same core density, their carrying capacity increased with the face-sheet thickness, but failure modes of thin face-sheet AFS were completely different from the thick face-sheet AFS. There were three failure modes in the present research: yield damage of both core and bottom face-sheet (Failure mode I), yield damage of foam core (Failure mode II), debonding between the adhesive interface (Failure mode III).

  • In a sequence of images obtained by surveillance cameras, facial regions appear very small and their colors change abruptly by lighting condition. This paper proposes a new face detection scheme, robust on complex background, small size, and lighting conditions. The proposed method is consisted of three processes. In the first step, the candidates for the face regions are selected using face color distribution and motion information. In the second stage, the non-face regions are removed using face color ratio, boundary ratio, and average of column-wise intensity variation in the candidates. The face regions containing eyes and mouth are segmented and classified, and then they are scored using their topological relations in the last step. To speed up and improve a performance the above process, a block based image segmentation technique is used. The experiments have shown that the proposed algorithm detects faced regions with more than 91% of accuracy and less than 4.3% of false alarm rate.

  • Significant attention has recently been drawn to human robot interaction system that uses face detection technology. The most conventional face detection methods have applied under pixel domain. These pixel based face detection methods require high computational power. Hence, the conventional methods do not satisfy the robot environment that requires robot to operate in a limited computing process and saving space. Also, compensating the variation of illumination is important and necessary for reliable face detection. In this paper, we propose the illumination invariant face detection that is performed under the compressed domain. The proposed method uses color balancing module to compensate illumination variation. Experiments show that the proposed face detection method can effectively increase the face detection rate under existing illumination.

  • In the real-time automatic face recognition technique, accurate face detection is essential and very important part because it has the effect to face recognition performance. In this paper, we use color information, edge information, and binary information to detect candidate regions of eyes from Input image, and then detect face candidate region using the center point of the detected eyes. We verify both eye candidate region and face candidate region using Support Vector Machines(SVM). It is possible to perform fast and reliable face detection because we can protect false detection through these verification process. From the experimental results, we confirmed the Proposed algorithm in this paper shows excellent face detection rate over 99%.

  • 2D face analysis has some limitations which are pose and illumination sensitive. For these reasons, even if many researchers try to study in the 3D face analysis and processing, because of the low computing performance and the absence of a high-speed 3D scanner then a lot of research is not being able to proceed. But, due to improving of the computing performance in these days, the advanced 3D face research was now underway. In this paper, we propose the method of building a 3D face model which deal successfully with dense correspondence problem.
