The Inheritance of Jumping Activity in Reciprocal Cross of Two Subspecies of Mice

  • The objective of this study was to describe the nature of the inheritance of jumping as a behavioral trait and to analyze quantitatively the jumping height as a measure of vigor in two subspecies of mice. Two subspecies of mice, Yonakuni wild mouse (Y) and $CF_{{\sharp}1}$ laboratory mouse (C), were used as the parental types. Reciprocal mating between these two subspecies was made to produce subsequently the first and second generations. The first generation was $F_1$ (YC) resulting from $Y\;male{\times}C\;female$, and $F_1{^\prime}$ (CY) from $C\;male{\times}Y\;female$. The second generation $F_2$ (YCYC) was from mating $F_1{\times}F_1$ and $F_2{^\prime}$ (CYCY) from $F_1{^\prime}{\times}F_1{^\prime}$. Individuals were treated with a set of direct current shock apparatus at six weeks of age to evoke jumping. The results showed that the ratio between jumping and non jumping mice (J: NJ) for C was 0%:100% (0:1), which means that all C did not jump throughout the experiment, whereas Y was 68%:32% (2:1); and the $F_1$ and $F_2$ showed 65%:35% (2:1) and 51%:49% (1:1), respectively. All $F_1{^\prime}$ and $F_2{^\prime}$ individuals jumped as indicated by the ratio 100%:0% (1:0) for both these two genetic groups. Of the jumped mice, average height of the first three jumping observed for pooled sexes in Y, $F_1$, $F_2$, $F_1{^\prime}$ and $F_2{^\prime}$ were 19.3 cm, 19.3 cm, 18.0 cm, 19.9 cm and 16.4 cm, respectively. The distribution of jumping height showed a tendency to be a normal distribution. The jumping activity and jumping height may be affected by some major genes and polygenes, respectively.

불화물 복합적용이 법랑질의 재석회화에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Multi-Application of Fluoride on Enamel Remineralization)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of multi or single application of fluoride plus 0.05% NaF solution on the remineralization of dental caries lesion. The microhardness changes of enamel surface were measured after application of fluoride and precipitation of 0.05% NaF solution on 6 groups of cow's tooth on which the artificial carious lesions were formed first. Test groups were calssified into two step application with NaF, $SnF_2$ and APF under different application time conditions plus 0.05% NaF solution(group I, II, III, IV) and single application with APF plus 0.05% NaF solution (group V) and control(0.05% NaF solution only, group IV). The obtained results were as follows. 1. Regarding microhardness change of enamel surface. microhardness increments in group I(NaF for 1 minute+APF for 3 minutes+0.05% NaF solution for 1 minute), II($SnF_2$ 1 min+APF 3 min+NaF sol.), III($SnF_2$ 2 min+APF 2 min+NaF sol.), IV(NaF 2 min+APF 2 min+NaF sol.) and V(APF 4 min+NaF sol.) were significantly greater than group VI.(P<0.05) 2. Microhardness changes of shorter application time of $SnF_2$ (group II) were significantly greater than group III. (P<0.05) 3. Microhardness changes were variable with kinds of fluoride, application sequence and application time of fluoride. but had no relation with the number of fluoride application.

한국어 단모음 8개에 대한 음향분석 - F1/F2 모음공간에서의 음향변수를 중심으로 - (An Acoustic Analysis on the Korean 8 Monophthongs - With Respect to the Acoustic Variables on the F1/F2 Vowel Space -)

  • This paper describes the acoustic characteristics of 8 Korean monophthongs. Two acoustic variables were newly manipulated the distance between Fl and F2 (Δ[F2-Fl]). which might be of help for the judgement of the vowel backness. and Euclidian distance between two vowels. [에] & [애] were observed to be merged in both male vowel space and the female's. respectively. The merger of [우] & [오], on the other hand, was only seen in the female space. In case of Fl, which concerns the vowel height. the scope of the females' was 1.36 times longer than that of the males' Regarding F2, which is related to the vowel backness. the females used a space 1.29 times longer than the males. The observation of Euclidian distance between the basic 3 vowels (이. 아. 우) showed that the females have longer distance than the males: [이-아] 1.25 times, [아-우] 1.45 times, and [이-우] 1.35 times. respectively.

Evaluation of Reciprocal Cross Design on Detection and Characterization of Mendelian QTL in $F_2$ Outbred Populations

  • A simulation study was conducted to evaluate the effect of reciprocal cross on the detection and characterization of Mendelian QTL in $F_2$ QTL swine populations. Data were simulated under two different mating designs. In the one-way cross design, six $F_0$ grand sires of one breed and 30 $F_0$ grand dams of another breed generated 10 $F_1$ offspring per dam. Sixteen $F_1$ sires and 64 $F_1$ dams were randomly chosen to produce a total of 640 $F_2$ offspring. In the reciprocal design, three $F_0$ grand sires of A breed and 15 $F_0$ grand dams of B breed were mated to generate 10 $F_1$ offspring per dam. Eight $F_1$ sires and 32 $F_1$ dams were randomly chosen to produce 10 $F_2$ offspring per $F_1$ dam, for a total of 320 $F_2$ offspring. Another mating set comprised three $F_0$ grand sires of B breed and 15 $F_0$ grand dams of A breed to produce the same number of $F_1$ and $F_2$ offspring. A chromosome of 100 cM was simulated with large, medium or small QTL with fixed, similar, or different allele frequencies in parental breeds. Tests between Mendelian models allowed QTL to be characterized as fixed (LC QTL), or segregating at similar (HS QTL) or different (CB QTL) frequencies in parental breeds. When alternate breed alleles segregated in parental breeds, a greater proportion of QTL were classified as CB QTL and estimates of QTL effects for the CB QTL were more unbiased and precise in the reciprocal cross than in the one-way cross. This result suggests that reciprocal cross design allows better characterization of Mendelian QTL in terms of allele frequencies in parental breeds.

[18F]Labeled 2-nitroimidazole derivatives for hypoxia imaging

  • Imaging hypoxia using positron emission tomography (PET) is of great importance for cancer therapy. [$^{18}F$] Fluoromisonidazole (FMISO) was the first PET agent used for imaging tumor hypoxia. Various radiolabeled nitroimidazole derivatives such as [$^{18}F$]fluoroerythronitroimidazole (FETNIM), [$^{18}F$]1-${\alpha}$-D-(2-deoxy-2-fluoroarabinofuranosyl)-2-nitroimidazole(FAZA), 2-(2-nitroimidazol-1-yl)-N-(3,3,3-[18F]-trifluoropropyl)acetamide ([$^{18}F$]EF-3), [$^{18}F$]2-(2-nitro-1H-imidazol-1-yl)-N-(2,2,3,3,3-pentafluoropropyl) acetamide (EF-5), 3-[$^{18}F$]fluoro-2-(4-((2-nitro-1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl)-1H-1,2,3,-triazol-1-yl)-propan-1-ol ([$^{18}F$]HX-4), and [$^{18}F$]fluoroetanidazole (FETA) were developed successively. However, these imaging agents still produce PET images with limited resolution; the lower blood flow in hypoxic tumors compared to normoxic tumors results in low uptake of the agents in hypoxic tumors. Thus, the development of better imaging agents is necessary.

$LiF-BeF_2$ 용융염계에서 전해제련에 의한 우라늄 회수 (Recovery of Uranium in $LiF-BeF_2$ Molten Salt System by Electrowinning)

  • 장수명핵종 소멸처리를 위한 건식분리공정에서 핵분열성물질인 우라늄을 장수명핵종과 분리할 필요가 있다. 본 실험은 $LiF-BeF_2$ 용융염에서 전해제련에 의한 우라늄 금속을 분리하기 위하여 분해전압 측정하였고, 인가전압에 따른 전해특성 파악 및 반응속도를 측정하였다. 측정결과 $500^{\circ}C$에서 $UF_4$$LiF-BeF_2$의 분해전압은 각각 -1.4volt와 -1.55volt이었다 우라늄의 전착속도는 우라늄 농도가 높을수록 증가하였다.

의복패턴상에서 직물의 각도 변화에 따른 봉합강도 (Seam-Strength as a Function of Angle of Bias on the Patterns)

  • An investigation made of fabric strength & elongation and the lock stitch seam strength & elongation by stitch density (N1.5; 26 stitches/3 cm, N2.0; 19 stitches/3 cm, N2.5; 14 stitches/3cm) depending on methods of. sample prepariation (angle variations of unseamed sample and overlapping way of seamed sample) It found maximum stitch density that results of the seam strength test was highist in each angle of bias. The results obstained were as follows: 1. As the results of fabric strength and elongation tests as a function of angle of bias, breaking strength were that warp and weft angles (0$^{\circ}$, 90$^{\circ}$) were much higher than bias angles (20$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$, 45$^{\circ}$, 60$^{\circ}$) . And otherwise breaking elongation were that 45$^{\circ}$ angle of bias were highest and were that the warp & weft way were lower. 2. As the results of the seam strength tests by the stitch density under samples of same angles, the maximum stitch density were those; under 0$^{\circ}$/0$^{\circ}$, 60$^{\circ}$/60$^{\circ}$:F1, F2-N2.0, F3-N1.5, under 20$^{\circ}$/20$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$/30$^{\circ}$, 45$^{\circ}$/45$^{\circ}$: F1-N2.5, F2-N2.0, F3-N1.5, under 90$^{\circ}$/90$^{\circ}$: F1, F2, F3-N1.5. 3. As the results of the seam strength tests by the stitch density under samples of symmetry angles, the maximum stitch density were those; under 20$^{\circ}$/-20$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$/-30$^{\circ}$, 60$^{\circ}$/-60$^{\circ}$: F1, F3-N1.5, F2-N2.0, under 45$^{\circ}$/-45$^{\circ}$: F1, F2-N2.0, F3-N1.5.

누에 이면교잡에 의한 형질발현의 잡종강세와 약세 (Degrees of Heterosis and Inbreeding Depression of Quantitative Characters in Silkworm by Diallel Corsses)

  • 7개 누에 품종으로 이면교잡하여 42개의 조합의 F1, F2세대에 대한 양적형질의 잡종강세와 약세현상을 검정한 결과는 다음과 같다. 잡종강세가 대체로 높은 형질은 견사량이 F1, F2세대의 I·II집단에서 15.57-38.69%, 단견중과 견층중은 F1, F2세대의 I·II집단에서 각각 11.29-21.65%, 7.44-23.73%로 정의 유의인데 반하여 5령경과와 연감율은 F1, F2세대의 I·II집단에서 각각 -0.57--6.62%, -1.74--6.06%의 부로 유의하였다. 단견중, 견층중, 견사장, 견사량 등의 수량적 형질은 F1세대가 F2세대보다 또 교배 I집단이 교배 II집단보다 높은 강세를 보였다. 큰 친에 대한 Heterobeltiosis는 단견중이 F1세대의 I·II집단에서, 견사량이 F1세대의 I집단에서 각각 정으로 유의하였고, 5령경과, 견층비율, 연감율은 F1, F2세대의 I·II집단에서 각각 부로 유의하였다. Inbreeding depression현상은 견층비율과 연감율이 교배 I·II에서 유의하였다.

  • Let G be a graph with vertex set V(G) and edge set E(G), and let g, f be two nonnegative integer-valued functions defined on V(G) such that $g(x)\;{\leq}\;f(x)$ for every vertex x of V(G). We use $d_G(x)$ to denote the degree of a vertex x of G. A (g, f)-factor of G is a spanning subgraph F of G such that $g(x)\;{\leq}\;d_F(x)\;{\leq}\;f(x)$ for every vertex x of V(F). In particular, G is called a (g, f)-graph if G itself is a (g, f)-factor. A (g, f)-factorization of G is a partition of E(G) into edge-disjoint (g, f)-factors. Let F = {$F_1$, $F_2$, ..., $F_m$} be a factorization of G and H be a subgraph of G with mr edges. If $F_i$, $1\;{\leq}\;i\;{\leq}\;m$, has exactly r edges in common with H, we say that F is r-orthogonal to H. In this paper it is proved that every (0, mf - (m - 1)r)-graph has (0, f)-factorizations randomly r-orthogonal to any given subgraph with mr edges if $f(x)\;{\geq}\;3r\;-\;1$ for any $x\;{\in}\;V(G)$.

  • Summation theorems for hypergeometric series $_2F_1$ and generalized hypergeometric series $_pF_q$ play important roles in themselves and their diverse applications. Some summation theorems for $_2F_1$ and $_pF_q$ have been established in several or many ways. Here we give a proof of Watson's classical summation theorem for the series $_3F_2$(1) by following the same lines used by Rakha [7] except for the last step in which we applied an integral formula introduced by Choi et al. [3].
