Needs of Hospice Care and Quality of Life for Cancer Patients (암환자의 호스피스 간호 요구와 삶의 질)

  • Purpose: This study investigated the relationship between the needs for hospice care and quality of life in cancer patients. Methods: Data were collected from 127 cancer patients hospitalized at a university hospital in Chonbuk between October, 2006 to March, 2007. Two instruments were used: cancer patients' need for hospice care, developed by Kang and Kim and quality of life developed by Tae et al. Results: The mean scores were 3.11 out of 4 for hospice care needs, and 5.25 out of 10 for quality of life. The correlation between needs for hospice care and quality of life was moderate and negative (r=-0.395, P<0.01). Among the four groups of needs, physical need was the most strongly correlated with quality of lifer (r=-0.388, P<0.01). The need for hospice care was significantly different according to participants' religion (t=6.02, P<0.05), and duration of disease (F=3.45, P< 0.05). Quality of life was significantly different according to participants' monthly income (F=3.38, P<0.05). cancer stage (F=8.10, P<0.01) and chemotherapy (t=6.09, P=0.015). Conclusion: The results suggested that the cancer patients' hospice care needs should be answered in order to improve their quality of life. While doing so, participants' characteristic need should also be considered.

Identification and classification of pathogenic Fusarium isolates from cultivated Korean cucurbit plants

  • Fusarium wilt disease caused by Fusarium species is a major problem affecting cultivated cucurbit plants worldwide. Fusarium species are well-known soil-borne pathogenic fungi that cause Fusarium wilt disease in several cucurbit plants. In this study, we aimed to identify and classify pathogenic Fusarium species from cultivated Korean cucurbit plants, specifically watermelon and cucumber. Thirty-six Fusarium isolates from different regions of Korea were obtained from the National Institute of Horticulture and Herbal Science Germplasm collection. Each isolate was morphologically and molecularly identified using an internal transcribed spacer of ribosomal DNA, elongation factor-1α, and the beta-tubulin gene marker sequence. Fusarium species that infect the cucurbit plant family could be divided into three groups: Fusarium oxysporum (F. oxysporum), Fusarium solani (F. solani), and Fusarium equiseti (F. equieti). Among the 36 isolates examined, six were non-pathogenic (F. equiseti: 15-127, F. oxysporum: 14-129, 17-557, 17-559, 18-369, F. solani: 12-155), whereas 30 isolates were pathogenic. Five of the F. solani isolates (11-117, 14-130, 17-554, 17-555, 17-556) were found to be highly pathogenic to both watermelon and cucumber plants, posing a great threat to cucurbit production in Korea. The identification of several isolates of F. equiseti and F. oxysporum, which are both highly pathogenic to bottle gourd, may indicate waning resistance to Fusarium species infection.

  • HD5371(${\alpha}_{2000}=00^h57^m31^s.7{\delta}_{2000}=+75^{\circ}18^{\prime}04^{{\prime}{\prime}}.8$))은 2009년 처음으로 ${\delta}$ Scuti형 변광성으로 분류되었으나(Gregor 2009) 그동안 구체적인 변광 주기 분석이 이루어지지 않은 항성이다. 강원대학교 천체 관측실에서는 이 변광성에 대한 정확한 변광 주기를 분석하기 위한 관측을 수행하였다. 관측은 2014년 10월부터 2015년 2월까지 14-인치 및 10-인치 슈미트-카세그레인식 망원경과 QHY9 CCD 카메라를 사용하였다. 총 6일의 관측을 수행하여 얻은 측광 자료에 대하여 Period04를 활용한 power spectrum 분석을 통해 변광 주기를 찾았다. 이 분석을 통해 2개의 변광 주기 $f_1$=7.127c/d, $f_2$=1.995c/d를 찾았다. 2개의 주기 가운데 $f_1$은 fundamental mode로서 Gregor(2009)가 처음으로 제시한 주기 0.1389 day와 일치하는 것이며, $f_2$는 이 연구에서 새롭게 찾은 주기로서 non-radial mode에 해당되는 것으로 해석하였다. 분석 결과를 바탕으로 HD5371의 변광 특성과 물리적 성질을 논하였다. HD5371의 완전한 주기 해를 얻기 위한 장기 관측을 수행 중에 있다.

The Correlation of Four Constitution and Ryodoraku (요통환자의 사상체질과 양도락의 상관관계)

  • Objectives : The aim of the study is to investigate the correlation of Ryodoraku score and four constitution in the patients with chronic low back pain. Methods : Using Pearson's correlation test, we divided 79 patients into two groups(normal and chronic low back pain group) and analyzed the correlation between Ryodoraku score and major constitution rate of four constitution. Results : 1. Ryodoraku score in the chronic low back pain group was mostly found to be below 40 ${\mu}A$, regardless of constitution. 2. There was negative correlation on F2 in lesser Yin person of chronic low back pain group, and there was positive correlation on H4 H5 F2 F4 and F5 in greater Yin person of chronic low back pain group. 3. There was negative correlation on H1 and H6 in lesser Yang person of normal group. 4. There was negative correlation on H6 in lesser Yang person of total group including normal and chronic low back pain group. Conclusion : These results suggest that roydoraku should be correlated to four constitutional diagnosis in part and available to increase accuracy of four constitutional or Ryodoraku diagnosis.

Effects of Fluoride Additions on Sintering and Microwave Dielectric Properties of CaWO$_4$ (Fluoride 첨가에 따른 CaWO$_4$의 소결 및 고주파 유전특성)

  • In this study, development of a new LTCC material using a non-glassy system was attempted with respect to reducing the fabrication process steps and cost down. Lowering the sintering temperature can be achieved by liquid phase sintering. For LTCC application, the starting material must have quality factor as high as possible in microwave frequency range. And also, the material should have a low dielectric constant for enhancing the signal propagation speed. Regarding these factors, dielectric constants of various materials were estimated by the Clausius-Mosotti equation. Among them, CaWO$_4$ was tamed out the suitable LTCC material. CaWO$_4$ can be sintered up to 98% of full density at 1200$^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours. It's measured dielectric constant, quality factor, and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency were 10.15, 62880GHz, and -27.8ppm/$^{\circ}C$, respectively. In order to modify the dielectric properties and densification temperature, 0.5∼1.5 wt% LiF were added to CaWO$_4$. LiF addition reduced the sintering temperature/time down to 800$^{\circ}C$/10∼30min due to the reactive liquid phase sintering. Dielectric constant lowered from 10.15 to 9.38 and Q x fo increased up to 92000GHz with increasing LiF content.

Clothing Image Preferences and Sex Role Identity of Korean and American College Students (한국과 미국 남녀 대학생의 의복이미지 선호도와 성역할 정체감에 관한 연구)

  • The objectives of this study were to classify the contents of clothing image preferences of Korean and American students, and to examine how clothing image preferences vary according to sex role identity, sex, and culture. A woman's clothing image preference inventory and the Bem Sex Role Inventory were administered to 127 Korean students and 116 American students. Sex role idendity was classified into androgynous, masculine, feminine, and undifferentiated type. 1. Four segments of woman's clothing image preference derived by factor analysis : F. 1 'splendid-plain' ; F. 2 'feminine-masculine' ; F. 3 'casual-formal' ; F. 4 'classic-contemporary'. 2. Americans prefered splendid image more than did Koreans. Androgynous-typed males liked splendid image most among American male subjects. 3. There was interaction effect between sex and culture on feminine-masculine image preference. In Korean students, males liked feminine image much more than did females. Masculine-typed females liked masculine image most among American female subjects. 4. Koreans prefered casual image more than did Americans. 5. There was interaction effect between sex role identity, sex, and culture($4{\times}2{\times}2$) on classic-contemporary image preference. Feminine-typed females liked classic image most among Korean female subjects. 6. Korean males especially prefered luxurious image least. Korean females contemporary most, American males sexy most, American females fashionable most among four subject groups. That is, differences on clothing image preferences were found according to sex role identity, sex, and culture.

Effect of Herbal-acupuncture with Chaenomelis Fructus Solution at the Joksamni($ST_{36}$) of Mice with Collagen-induced Aarthritis (목과(木瓜) 약침(藥鍼)이 Collagen-induced Arthritis 억제 및 면역조절에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to observe the effects of Chaenomelis Fructus herbal-acupuncture solution (ChF-HAS) at the Joksamni ($ST_{36}$) on arthritis induced by Collagen II in mice. Methods : The author performed several experimental items. The severity of arthritis, changes of mouse weight, size of the spleen and the degree of stenosis, changes of cytokine level, IgG, IgM and anti-collagen II, changes of immunocyte count, histological changes of the CIA mouse joint were analyzed and the conclusions are as follows. Results: 1. In the ChF-HA, the arthritis index, the incidence of arthritis, the degree of joint edema was significantly decreased. 2. In the ChF-HA, weight, spleen size and stenosis rate was low and maintained as the normal group was. 3. In the ChF-HA, cytokine level, IgG, IgM and anti-collagen II were significantly decreased. 4. In the ChF-HA, on changes of immunocyte count were maintained to the levels of normal group. 5. In histological changes of the CIA mouse joint, the cartilage destruction and synovial cell proliferation were decreased. Conclusions: These results suggest that ChF-HA at the $ST_{36}$ has an important role to control the immune reactions and suppress inflammatory response on the collagen induced rheumatoid arthritis. This study can be a significant supporting evidence that ChF-HA is chosen to be the principal therapy for clinical practice of the rheumatoid arthritis in the future.

  • A parallel flats fraction for the $3^n$ factorial is symbolically written as $At=C=(C_1 C_2 \cdots C_f)$ where C is a rxf matrix and A is rxn matrix with rank r. It is shown that the set of all possible parallel flats fraction C for a given A and given size can be partitioned into equivalence classes. The number of those classes are enumerated in general.

  • DRAM용 capacitor의 차세대 전극물질 후보 중의 하나인 Ru 박막을 고밀도의 ECR 플라즈마를 이용하여 식각 특성 및 식각 메커니즘을 알아보고자 하였다. 식각시 Ru은 oxygen들과 결합을 하여 RuO2 화합물들을 생성하고 RuO2 화합물들은 다시 oxygen들과 결합을 함으로써 휘발성이 강한 RuOx 화합물들을 생성하였다. 하지만 이러한 식각이 이루어지기 위해서는 oxygen이온들에 의한 충돌이 필요하며, Cl과 F 가스들을 첨가가 의해 충돌 이온의 에너지가 증가되어 RuO2와 O radical들의 반응성을 향상시켰다. 이에 휘발성이 좋은 RuO4들의 형성속도를 증가시킴으로써 식각 속도를 향상시킬 수 있었다.
