  • The Ministry of Environment is determining reference flows and goal water qualities in many stations over all around riverbasin to control TMDL. Reference flow is now defined to 10 years averaged 275th minimum flow$(Q_{275})$. Dam operation takes direct effect on flows downstream. The Yongdam mutipurposed dam was constructed in 2002 and TMDL managing stations between the Daecheong dam and the Yongdam dam are the Geumbon B, C, D, E, and F in main stream of the Geum river. Geumbon F is the Daecheong dam site. Observed flows are ideal to be used to set reference flows, but simulated flows are more practical to be used to set reference flows from the cause of the Yongdam dam's operation. A system for simulating daily storages of the Yongdam dam was constructed and the DAWAST model was selected to simulate daily streamflows. Analysis period was selected for 10 years from 1996 to 2005. Scenario was set as follows; Firstly, observed outflows from the Yongdam dam are used from 2002 to 2005 and the Yongdam dam does not exist from 1995 to 2001. Secondly, the Yongdam dam existed also from 1995 to 2001 and simulated outflows from the Yongdam dam are used from 1996 to 2005 with provision of constant outflow of $7.0m^3/s$ and water supply to the Jeonju region outsided watershed of $900,000m^3/day$. In case of scenario 1 reference flows at the Geumbon B, C, D, E, F are 4.52, 6.69, 7.96, 11.17, and $13.21m^3/s$, respectively. And in case of scenario 2 reference flows at the Geumbon B, C, D, E, F are 6.27, 8.48, 9.58, 12.73, and $15.12m^3/s$, respectively.

  • As the automobile industry is developing, the number of deaths and injuries has increased. To reduce the damages from automobile accidents, the government of each country proposes experimental conditions for reproducing the accident and establishes the vehicle safety regulations. Automotive manufacturers are trying to make safer vehicles by satisfying the requirements. The Hybrid III crash test dummy is a standard Anthropomorphic Test Device (ATD) used for measuring the occupant's injuries in a frontal impact test. Since a real crash test using a vehicle is fairly expensive, a computer simulation using the Finite Element Method (F.E.M.) is widely used. Therefore, a detailed and robust F.E. dummy model is needed to acquire more accurate occupant injury data and behavior during the crash test. To achieve this goal, a detailed F.E. model of the Hybrid III 5th percentile female dummy is constructed by using the reverse engineering technique in this research. A modeling process is proposed to construct the F.E. model. The proposed modeling process starts from disassembling the physical dummy. Computer Aided Design (CAD) geometry data is constructed by three-dimensional (3-D) scanning of the disassembled physical dummy model. Based on the geometry data, finite elements of each part are generated. After mesh generation, each part is assembled with other parts using the joints and rigid connection elements. The developed F.E. model of dummy is simulated based on the FMVSS 572 validation regulations. The results of simulation are compared with the results of physical tests.

  • Karyotype analysis was carried out on blood samples of 30 water buffaloes belonging to different breed groups (i.e. Philippine Carabao (PC), Indian Murrah (IM), Bulgarian Murrah (BM), "$F_1$ 50% IM-50% PC", "$F_1$ 50% BM-50% PC" and "75% IM-25% PC"), using the modified Leucocyte Culture Technique. The modal chromosome numbers of the PC, "$F_1$ 50% IM-50% PC", "$F_1$ 50% BM-50% PC", IM, BM and "75% IM-25% PC" were 2n=48, 49, 49, 50, 50 and 50, respectively. The water buffalo chromosomes are mostly acrocentric (79.67%) and the remainder submetacentric (20.33%). Results of the ordinary least square analysis showed significant breed effects (p<0.01) on other karyotypic characteristics (i.e. relative length, arm ratio and centromeric index). Significant correlation between karyotypic characteristics and some animal performance traits were also found. The significant correlation values imply that karyotypic characteristics can be used as important criteria to select potentially productive young water buffaloes. In the future, more production and reproduction traits from non-institutional herds should be included in the analysis to reveal meaningful correlations with various karyotypic characteristics.

  • The moment analysis of lysozyme was implemented using chromatograms that were obtained from weak cation exchange column in high performance liquid chromatography system. Three elution sodium phosphate buffers containing 1.0, 0.75, 0.5M sodium chloride were used. Experiments were conducted by varying flow rate, elution sodium chloride concentration, and lysozyme solute concentration. The general rate (GR) model was employed to calculate the first moment and the second moment. By plotting $L/u_0$ vs. $({\mu}_1-t_0)/(1-{\varepsilon}_e)(1-{\varepsilon}_i)$] equilibrium constants (K) were obtained from first moment analysis. Intra-particle diffusivity was obtained from theoretical plate number data. Based on the results of moment analysis, van Deemter plots were drawn in order to investigate the contributions of $H_{ax}$, $H_f$, and $H_d$ to total Height Equivalent to a Theoretical Plate (HETP, $H_{total}$). The effect of intra-particle diffusion ($H_d$) was the most dominant factor contributing to HETP while external mass transfer ($H_f$) was negligible factor.

  • In this study, a number of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) including benzene, toluene, p-xylene, styrene, and methyl ethyl ketone were analyzed from samples collected in ambient air and under the field conditions. These samples were analyzed independently by two different set-ups for VOC analyses, i.e., between [1] gas chromatography/flame ionization detector with tube sampling - (F-T system) and [2] gas chromatography/mass spectrometer with bag sampling (M-B system). The analytical results derived by both systems showed fairly similar patterns in relative sense but with moderately large differences in absolute sense. The results of M-B system were high relative to F-T system with the F-T/M-B ratio below 1. If the relative biases of the two measurement techniques are derived in terms of percent difference (PD) in concentration values, the results were generally above 35% on average. A student t-test was applied to investigate the statistical significance of those differences between the systems. The results of both analytical systems were different at 95% confidence level for toluene, p-xylene, styrene, and methyl ethyl ketone (P < 0.043). However, F-T and M-B systems showed strong correlations for toluene and p-xylene. The observed bias is explained in large part by such factors as the differences in standard phases used for each system and the chemical loss inside the bag sampler.

  • We investigate the existence of homoclinic orbits of the following systems of $Li{\'{e}}nard$ type: $a(x)x^'=h(y)-F(x)$, $y^'$=-a(x)g(x), where $h(y)=m{\mid}y{\mid}^{p-2}y$ with m > 0 and p > 1 and a, F, 9 are continuous functions such that a(x) > 0 for all $x{\in}{\mathbb{R}}$ and F(0)=g(0)=0 and xg(x) > 0 for $x{\neq}0$. By a series of time and coordinates transformations of the above system, we obtain sufficient conditions for the positive orbits of the above system starting at the points on the curve h(y) = F(x) with x > 0 to approach the origin through only the first quadrant. The method of this paper is new and the results of this paper cover some early results on this topic.

  • The control of dissolved aluminum concentration in the hot dip zinc galvanizing bath is greatly important in producing galvannealed steel sheets. The purpose of present study is to provide basic data for measurement of the aluminum concentration in site in hot dip zinc bath at the temperature of $460^{\circ}C\~500^{\circ}C$ using $CaF_2$ solid electrolyte sensor with three kinds of reference electrode. Good workability and stability of the sensor were confirmed with the $Bi+BiF_3$ reference electrode from the emf measurement. In order to measure the aluminum concentration in Zn-Al bath, the galvanic cell of fluorine ion was constructed with $CaF_2$ solid electrolyte as follows; $$(-)W|Zn-Al,\;AlF_3|CaF_2|Bi,BiF_3|W(+)$$. The emf measurement was made at the temperature of $460\pm10^{\circ}C$ in the Zn-Al bath. The following correlationship between aluminum concentration and emf was obtained by the least square regression analysis; $$E/mV=56.795log[\%Al]+1881.7\;R=0.9704$$,$$0.026wt\%{\leq}[\%Al]{\leq}0.984wt\%$$

  • To study the possibility of F.E.M application to vibration and shock response of double stage elastic mounting system with complicated damped foundation structure like common-bed or raft in ships foundation structure model which has complicated damped sandwich cross-section is analyzed first. And then vibration responses experimental results and shock response of double stage elastic mounting system with complicated damped foundation structure like common-bed or raft in ships foundation structure model which adopts the above damped structure as intermediate foundation were compared. As a result it is found that F.E.M could be effectively used in analyzing the vibration and shock response of double and multi-stage elastic mounting system with complicated damped foundation structures.

  • In the paper, it was attempted to verify how the strength around fillet area of shifted gear would be affected by variables such as number of teeth, shifted value, and diametral pitch. Thereafter, the Lewis' tooth factor of the shifted gear was computed in terms of previously mentioned variables in order to observe the characteristics of stress change related from tooth factor and tooth number with the parameter of shifted values and diametral pitches. From the results of quasi-theoretical values by Finite Element Method(F.E.M.)and experimental values through the photo-elastic tests, the followings were identified. The more the number of gear teeth increased, the more the profile of the tooth became close to that of rack, and accordingly the stresses in the fillet area decreased significantly in certain range. Furthermore, as the shifted value and pressure angle increase the stresses tend decrease. Moreover, the stresses analyzed by F.E.M. in the filled area became around 1.22 times larger than the stresses computed by Lewis' form factor, and this is supposed as on influence of the stress concentration in fillet area.
