A Study on Performance of Steel Monocell Expansion Joints (강재형 모노셀 신축이음장치 성능 연구)

  • Studies have been made on performance evaluation of expansion joint systems for an ordinary highway or road bridge. However little study has been made for runway connection bridges at airports. A study on performance evaluated from computer code analysis and shrinkage, extension, and compression repetition tests based on KS F 4425 is conducted to a newly developed expansion joint system which has been installed in a runway connection bridge at Incheon Airport Extension 2 Construction Site. The MIDAS computer code is used to analyze the performance before the manufacture of the mock-up of expansion joint system on the basis of design requirements. Tests based on the KS F 4425 of 2001 year-version are conducted for the mock-up. Domestic codes and standards to validate the performance of the expansion joint system in a connection bridge have been developed for a vehicle. However the expansion joint system tested in this study is installed in a runway connection bridge for an aircraft. Conservatively the heaviest one among airplanes departing and landing at Incheon Airport is assumed level-F $468.4kN/m^2$ and adopted for the tests and analyses in this study. KS F 4425 method is selected for the shrinkage, extension, and compression repetition tests. No remarkable problem was observed for the 2,500-cycle shrinkage and extension and two million-cycle repeatition load tests. The results of this study are expected to contribute to establishment of code and standard for the performance validation of an expansion joint system installed in a runway connection bridge for an aircraft by providing performance test results and computer analysis results based on finite element methods.

Application of EST-SSR Marker for Purity Test of Watermelon F1 Cultivars (EST-SSR 마커 적용을 통한 수박 F1 품종 순도 검정)

  • This study was conducted to develop a set of EST-SSR marker for the purity test of commercial F1 hybrid cultivars in the watermelon. A total of 353 EST-SSR were selected and tested on seven F1 cultivars and their 11 parental lines achieved from NH Seeds Inc., Korea. Among tested 96 primer sets, WMU0056 for 'Orange', WMU0400 for 'Heukbo', WMU0056 and WMU0400 for 'Sindong', and WMU0056 and WMU0400 for 'Serona' revealed polymorphisms between the parental lines and heterozygosity from these F1 cultivers. Of 122 primer sets tested for 'Haedong', WMU0056, WMU0400, WMU0580, WMU1211, WMU4136, and WMU448 showed polymorphisms that were appropriate for the F1 purity test. WMU0056 and WMU0400 can be useful for 'Haedong', as well. Relatively low polymorphisms between parental lines were detected for 'Kulnara'(5%) and 'Hwangpea'(2%), and therefore, all 353 primer sets were tested on these cultivars. As the result, WMU5339 and WMU7003 were found to be useful for the F1 purity test in 'Kulnara' and 'Hwangpea', respectively. Using these EST-SSR markers developed by ICuGI, hybridity of the seeds for four F1 cultivars produced from farmers was evaluated, and levels of the F1 purity higher than 97.5% was observed from all seed populations. Our results indicated that the watermelon EST-SSR marker information posted in ICuGI could be utilized for developing codomiant and locus-specific markers that are highly effective for the F1 purity test.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel on-chip test logic for TSV fault detection in 3-dimensional integrated circuits. The proposed logic called OTT realizes the input signal delay-based TSV test method introduced earlier. OTT only includes one F/F, two MUXs, and some additional logic for signal delay. Thus, it requires small silicon area suitable for TSV testing. Both pre-bond and post-bond TSV tests are able to use OTT for short or open fault as well as small delay fault detection.

  • New classes of life distributions called new better (worse) than used at age $t_0$ in Laplace transform order, NBUL- $t_0$(NWUL - $t_0$) are introduced. For the classes NBUL - $t_0$(NWUL - $t_0$), preservation under convolution, mixture, mixing and the homogeneous Poisson shock model are studied. In the sequel, we obtain a test for $H_0$ : F is exponential versus $H_1$ : F is NBUL - $t_0$ and not exponential. The critical values and the powers of this test are calculated to assess the performance of the test. It is shown that the proposed test has high efficiencies for some commonly used distributions in reliability. Sets of real data are used as examples to elucidate the use of the proposed test for practical problems.

  • This study concerns the new strength equation of concrete by ultrasonic pulse velocity test. There are not only few estimate strength equations of concrete by ultrasonic pulse velocity test, but also many problems to apply them because of time, cost, easiness, structural damage, reliability and so on.   • This study concerns the. new equation of concrete strength by schmidt hammer test. There are not only few estimate strength equations of concrete by schmidt hammer test, but also many problems to apply them because of time, cost, easiness, structural damage, reliability and so on. For this study, there performed a series of schmidt hammer test with in existing 730days' concrete structures and proposed equations as follows; $$Linear\;:\;f_{ck}=2.18R-40.54\;(r^2=77.7\%)$$ $$Quadratic\;:\;f_{ck}=0.076R^2-2.92R+40.04\;(R^2= 85.5\%)$$ here, fck : Estimated compressive strength of concrete by MPa, R : Rebound index of concrete.

A Comparison Study Between Evaluation Methods on the Rheological Properties of Cement Paste (시멘트 페이스트의 유동 특성에 관한 평가방법 비교연구)

  • This study investigates the influence of various blending factors on cement paste fluidity and find out the most effective evaluation method of cement paste flow, comparing flow test apparatuses such as ring flow(R-F), flow cone(F-C) and mini slump(M-S). A viscometer also measures the rheology coefficients to secure faithful numerical data. Firstly, series I examines cement paste, affected by several cement products and mineral admixture types in the range of W/B 40%, ordinary fluidity, and W/B 30%, high fluidity. In this series, the three types of cement product depended on companies, are randomly used and the mineral admixture, such as fly ash, blast furnace slag and silica fume, are incorporated in the cement paste, in response to the ratio of 10, 20, to 30%, respectively. In addition, series II studies various chemical admixture types, affecting the cement paste. This series is carried out with manufacturing companies and component types in the range of W/C 30%, high fluidity. For the manufacturing companies, randomly four products are used and for the component types, polycaboxylate, melamine, naphthalene and lignosulfonate type are chosen. Test results showed that in the fluidity test of cement paste considering various types of blending factors, R-F exhibited similar tendency with F-C and M-S. In the analysis of consistency curves measured by viscometer, the fluidity evaluation method using flow test apparatuses was significantly effective, except for the some of the low fluidity specimens. In conclusion of this study, R-F was the most convenient, faithful and effective fluidity evaluation method of cement paste.

The study on dynamic fracture toughness of friction-welded M.E.F. dual phase steel (복합조직강의 마찰용접부에 대한 동적파괴특성)

  • Both the SS41 steel and the M.E.F(martensite encapsulated islands of frrite) dual phase steel made of SS41 steel by heat treatment were welded by friction welding, and then manufactured machinemade Vnotch standard Charpy impact specimens and precracked with a fatigue system at BM(base metal), HAZ(heat affected zone) and WZ(weld interface Zone). The impact test of them was performed with an instrumented impact test machine at a number of temperatures in constant loading velocity and the dynamic fracture characteristics were studied on bases of the absorbed energy, dynamic fracture toughness and fractography from the test. The results obtained are as follows; At the room temperature, the absorbed energy is HAZ.geq.WZ.geq.BM in case of the M.E.F. dual phase steel: BM.geq.HAZ.geq.WZ in case of the SS41 steel, HAZ.geq.BM.geq.WZ at the low temperature. The absorbed energy is decreased markedly with the temperature lowering; it is highly dependent on the temperature. The dynamic fracture toughness of the M.E.F. dual phase steel is HAZ.geq.WZ.geq.BM at the room temperature; BM.geq.WZ.geq.HAZ below-60.deg. C. Therefore the reliability of friction welding is uncertain at the low temperature(below-60.deg. C). The dynamic fracture toughness of the SS41 steel; HZA.geq.WZ.geq.BM at overall temperature region. The flaw formed by rotational upsetting pressure was shown y SEM; in this region. The absorbed energy per unit area and dynamic fracture toughness were low relative to other region.

Behavior of F shape non-persistent joint under experimental and numerical uniaxial compression test

  • Experimental and discrete element approaches were used to examine the effects of F shape non-persistent joints on the failure behaviour of concrete under uniaxial compressive test. concrete specimens with dimensions of 200 cm×200 cm×50 cm were provided. Within the specimen, F shape non-persistent joint consisting three joints were provided. The large joint length was 6 cm, and the length of two small joints were 2 cm. Vertical distance between two small joints change from 1.5 cm to 4.5 cm with increment of 1.5 cm. In constant joint lengths, the angle of large joint change from 0° to 90° with increments of 30°. Totally 12 different models were tested under compression test. The axial load rate on the model was 0.05 mm/min. Concurrent with experimental tests, numerical simulation (Particle flow code in two dimension) were performed on the models containing F shape non-persistent joint. Distance between small joints and joint angles were similar to experimental one. the results indicated that the failure process was mostly governed by both of the Distance between small joints and joint angles. The axial loading rate on the model was 0.05 mm/min. The compressive strengths of the samples were related to the fracture pattern and failure mechanism of the discontinuities. Furthermore, it was shown that the compressive behaviour of discontinuities is related to the number of the induced tensile cracks which are increased by increasing the joint angle. In the first, there were only a few acoustic emission (AE) hits in the initial stage of loading, and then AE hits rapidly grow before the applied stress reached its peak. Furthermore, a large number of AE hits accompanied every stress drop. Finally, the failure pattern and failure strength are similar in both approaches i.e., the experimental testing and the numerical simulation approaches.

An Experimental Study on Manufacturing Permeable Concrete Blocks from Recycled Industrial By-Products of Oyster Shell and Blast Furnace Slag (굴패각 및 고로슬래그 산업부산물을 재활용한 콘크리트 투수블록의 제조에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • In this paper, bending strength and permeability tests were conducted on concrete permeable blocks manufactured by recycling industrial by-products of oyster shell and blast furnace slag to measure and compare bending strength and permeability coefficient, and present experimental research results. To this end, a total of 54 specimens with a size of 200x200x60mm for surface layer and base layer were manufactured, and bending strength and permeability test were carried ourt accoridng to KS F 4419. Eighteen types of mixing designs were implemented by varying the mixing and replacement rates of oyster shells and blast furnace slag. As a result of the experiment, the higher the mixing ratio of oyster shell, the lower the bending strength and the permeability coefficient. Thereafter, a total of three permeable blocks with dimensions of 200x200x60mm were manufactured and subjected to bending strength and permeability tests according to KS F 4419. As a result of the test, the bending strength satisfies the standard of KS F 4419, and the permeability coefficient is 12 times higher than the standard of KS F 4419. It seems that the proper mixing of oyster shells and blast furnace slag increases the amount of air, and further research on durability and economic feasibility of materials used to manufacture permeable blocks is required.
