This study were to investigate the scratches and replacement cycles of eyeglasses according to personal characteristics in daily life. The subjects were 58 people who voluntarily participated in this study. The replacement cycle of eyeglasses according to the contact of eyelashes with eyeglasses, type and the number of eyeglasses wiped on a day were analyzed. The statistical analysis were performed by X2 test and Fisher's exact test. The average replacement cycle of the eyeglasses were longer females than males. The eyeglasses replacement cycle were significantly shorter when the eyelashes contacted the eyeglasses and when the eyeglasses were wiped using a tissue or clothes other than the eyeglasses towel. The coating film of the eyeglasses may be damaged by the convergence effect such as eyelashes or minor carelessness in daily life, and this study will continue to follow up on this result.
Korean eyeglasses export has continuously decreased at the annual average rate of 10% since year 2000. On the other hand, China - the number 1 competing country - is chasing after Korea while accomplishing average 20% of export increase per annum after year 2000. Considering these factors, main cause of stagnation in domestic eyeglasses industry can be seen as China's pursuit propelled by their low labor costs as well as investment on Research &Development. Other important causes are insufficient investment on R &D, decrease in competitiveness due to increase of import, deficiency of exploitative ability on own brand and own design, lack of infrastructure in eyeglasses expo, and etc.
Most of eyeglasses manufacturers in Korea consist of relatively small-sized enterprises with less than 10 employees. In terms of scale, it performs considerably poor compared to other competing nations like Italy and the People's Republic of China. As a result, domestic eyeglasses industry is facing a difficult position between high-priced products of developed countries and low-priced goods of China, South East Asia, and etc. Considering these factors, the urgent solution for revitalization of domestic eyeglasses industry could be seen as major structural changes in eyeglasses producers. In addition, it is also noted that procurement of competitiveness is an essential scheme to reinvigorate the Korean eyeglasses industry. This objective can be achieved via improvement of ability to develop new designs, exploitation of new material and technology, intensification of own innovative brand and public relations, development of new products such as functional glasses, reduction of sample producing period, provision of administrative support, and designation of special economic zone.
This study investigated the development of eyeglasses and design transition in materials and types through literature survey. The scope of this study on the basis of the 15th century, for this study survey reaches from the 15th century to modern. The result of this study were as follows. Real magnifying glasses was first mentioned by the Arab physicist al-Hazen who was famous of his treatise on optics. The oldest documents which explicitly refer to the art of making lenses for eyeglasses and magnifying glasses were the Venetian artisans of 1300. In the 15th century someone thought to remedy the unstability of glasses by securing the bridge on the forehead. But it was only in the 17th century that someone contrived to stabilize the frame by strapping it on the face by means of fine cords that reached behind the ears. Eventually in the early years of the 18th century the English optician Edward Scarlett invented the rigid earpieces which solved once and for all the problem of holding the eyeglasses firmly in place. In the 19th century, eyeglasses' fashion were monocle and pince-nez. In the 20th century, various lenses and frames were appeared. Therefore eyeglasses to correct defective sight, sun-glasses, as well as a most succesful item among modern fashion accessories.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide an empirical overview of the import patterns of the Eyeglasses and Contactlens industry. Methods: This study used an Engle-Granger cointegration technique and Johansen's multivariate cointegraion methodology test to check the stationarity of the model. This paper also applies Rolling regression to our model, indicating that Eyeglasses and Contact Lens import is endogenous to the economic variable. Results: The empirical results show how the import in Eyeglasses and Contact Lens is related to the economic variables. Conclusions: This paper shows how the import of Eyeglasses and Contactlens is influenced by economic variables, such as exchange rate and industrial product, and seasonal factors.
Purpose: In this paper, we have dealt with problems of army supply system for eyeglasses and improvement plan. Methods: We collected the latest service request of MND (Ministry of National Defence) and case of U.S. Army and analyzed the data. Results: We treated contents, construction methods and plans for efficient use of vision DB (database) for Korean Army. We suggested several alternative proposal for eyeglasses supply system which made possible quicker delivery of eyeglasses to the soldiers and increase satisfaction. Conclusions: The Korean Army must construct vision DB to service high quality vision service to the solider. It is urgent that the Korean Army set up a unit to take charge of vision management and service. And the Korean Army need to upgrade supply system for eyeglasses.

Purpose: In this paper, the changes in eyeglasses frames were investigated when the frames were exposed to artificial sweat. Methods: The changes in surface, hardness, and tensile strength of eyeglasses frames made of nickel silver, Monel, and titanium were tested after the exposure to the artificial sweat of pH 6.5, 6.0, and 5.0, during 1, 3, and 6 week(s), for each. Results: Corrosion pattern of eyeglasses frames made of nickel silver, Monel, and titanium was induced by artificial sweat, and the patterns were different from another frame materials. In proportion to the pH of artificial sweat and exposure time to artificial sweat, hardness of all frames made of three different material decreased, however, tensile strength of the three frames was not changed. Conclusions: The necessity of routine management for eyeglasses frames can be suggested since the changes in surface corrosion and hardness of eyeglasses frames induced by sweat were shown.
Perpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the measuring method in radius of eyeglasses lens curvature by using keratometer in noncontact method. Methods: A trial lens for vision test in diopter range from -9.00 D to -11.50 D were attached in front part of keratometer, after that we set eyeglasses lens at the place where eyeglasses lens is apart about 25 cm from front position of keratometer. We measured the radius of curvature from observation of clear mire image while the position of eyeglasses lens is changed in a small quantity. After that, we made some formulas for compensation of radius of curvature by using spherometer. Results: The radius of curvature was successfully measured by keratometer with trial lens in front part of it. The measured radius of curvature was changed to compensation value using spherometer data, and the 5 kind of linear equation to make compensation value was made. Any kind of lenses measured by using keratometer that trial lens was attached in front part of it, after that it was confirmed that the result of calculation from line equation is exact in error ratio below 3.5%. Conclusions: It was confirmed that radius of eyeglasses lens curvature can be measured by using keratometer by noncontact method, and the accuracy is higher than "lens measure".
This research was conducted to assist with domestic eyewear industry to gain better understanding of manufacturing through study relationship between purchase behaviors and selecting elements such as design, brand, price, material and nation. Domestic consumers think that the most important factor is a design when they purchase eyeglasses regardless of kinds and brands of eyeglasses, and optometrists choose the eyewear design as a primary factor when they buy eyeglasses for display and sale. As a role of eyeglasses for fashion items increases, the interest of the eyewear design will be higher. Many optometrists have plans to import and make house brand. Some of them also would like to study eyewear design.
This study aims to examine the differences in impression formation according to the accessories and hairstyles worn by men, and to investigate the relation between men's appearance and occupation inferences. The subjects were 320 female university students residing in the Seoul metropolitan area. First, wearing eyeglasses gave an impression of more intelligent image and less mild image. It was evaluated that the men wearing neckties have a high dimension of intelligence, and men wearing no necktie have a high dimension of progressiveness. Men with classic hairstyles had a high dimension of intelligence, while men with sports hairstyles had a high dimension of progressiveness, conspicuousness, and attractiveness. Second, metal rims on glasses had a high dimension of empowerment and attractiveness when a red necktie was worn, while horn-rimmed glasses with no necktie had a high dimension of conspicuousness and progressiveness. The men with sports hairstyles, with no eyeglasses had the highest dimension of progressiveness when a red necktie was worn. Third, it was evaluated that wearing a cloche hat or baseball cap had a low dimension of empowerment, while wearing a necklace had a high dimension of empowerment, conspicuousness, and progressiveness. Fourth, the men who wore a suit, eyeglasses, and a necktie with a classic hairstyle were deduced to be professionals, with high-ranking or white-collar jobs. It was found that when men wore a suit with a sports hairstyle, no eyeglasses, and no ties, they were inferred to be engaged in a service job. The baseball caps were strongly associated with technical or simple labor job.
