Design Optimization of an Extruded-type Cooling Structure for Reducing the Weight of LED Streetlights (LED 가로등용 압출형 방열 구조물 경량화를 위한 최적 설계)

  • The configuration of an extruded-type cooling structure was optimized for the light-emitting diode (LED) streetlights that have recently replaced convectional metal halide streetlights for energy saving. Natural convection and radiative heat transfer over the cooling structure were simulated using a numerical model with experimental verification. An improved cooling structure type was suggested to overcome the previous performance degeneration, as confirmed by analyzing the thermal flow around the existing cooling structure. A parameter study of the cooling structure geometries was also conducted and, based on the numerical results, the configuration was optimized to reduce the weight of the cooling structure. Consequently, the mass of the cooling structure was reduced by 60%, while the thermal performance was improved by 10%.

Characteristics of Maltose Formation in Heterogeneous Enzyme Reaction System Utilizing Swollen Extrusion Starch as a Substrate (팽윤 Extrusion 전분을 기질로 한 불균일상 효소반응계에서의 Maltose 생성 반응 특성)

  • The production of maltose utilizing swollen extrusion starch seems to have many technical advantages, such as, high reaction rate and high yield, production of high purity concentrated maltose, and low energy consumption, over the conventional method utilizing liquefied starch. The characteristics of maltose formation in heterogeneous enzyme reaction system comtaining swollen extrusion starch was investigated using fungal $\alpha $-amylase. The influence of extrusion conditions on structure of extruded starch, such as, degree of gelatinization, water absorption index, and water solubility index was analyzed. The relationship between the structural features and maltose forming reaction was investigated, and the result was analyzed in terms of surface reaction of insoluble extruded swollen starch. The characteristics of maltose formation from swollen sxtrusion starch was compared using endo-type fungal $\alpha $-amylase and exo-type $\beta $anylase, and the structural trasformation of extruded starch was also observed to clarify the reaction mechanism.

Microstructure and Tensile Property of Rapidly Solidified Al-Be alloy (급속응고한 Al-Be합금의 미세조직 및 인장특성)

  • For high performance aerospace structures, the properties of highest priority are low density, high strength, and high stiffness(modulus of elasticity). Addition of beryllium decrease the density of the aluminum alloy and increase the strength and the stiffness of the alloy. However it is very difficult to produce the Al-Be alloy having useful engineering properties by conventional ingot casting, because of the extremely limited solid solubility of beryllium in aluminum. So, rapid solidification processing is necessary to obtain extended solid solubility. In this study, rapidly solidified Al-6 at% Be alloy were prepared by twin roll melt spinning process and single roll melt spinning process. Twin roll melt spun ribbons were extruded at $450^{\circ}C$ with reduction in area of 25 : 1 after vacuum hot pressing at $550^{\circ}C and 375^{\circ}C$. The microstructure of melt spun ribbon exhibited a refined cellular microstructure with dispersed Be particles. As advance velocity of liquid/solid interface increase, the morphology of Be particle vary from rod-like type to spherical type and the crystal structure of Be particle from HCP to BCC. These microstructural characteristics of rapidly solidified Al-6at.%Be alloy were described on the basis of metastable phase diagram proposed by Perepezko and Boettinger. The extruded ribbon consisted of recrystallized grains dispersed with Be particles and exhibited improved tensile property compared with that of extruded ingot.

Effects of Feeding Extruded Corn and Wheat Grain on Growth Performance and Digestibility of Amino Acids in Early-Weaned Pigs

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the extruding effects of corn and wheat on growth performance and fecal digestibility of amino acids in early-weaned pigs. Ground corn and wheat by a hammer mill (3 mm screen in diameter) were extruded at $130{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ with a moist-type extruder ($Matador^{(R)}$). Treatments were: 1) 3 mm ground corn, 2) extruded corn, 3) 3 mm ground wheat, and 4) extruded wheat. A total of 160 pigs (14 d of age and $4.3{\pm}0.74kg$ BW) were allotted with the dietary treatments for a 21-d feeding trial. All diets were mash and contained 30% corn or wheat products. For a digestibility trial, 16 pigs (14-d old and $4.2{\pm}0.32kg$ BW) were employed in individual metabolic crates. There were no differences (p>0.15) in growth performance between corn-fed and wheat-fed groups. Feeding pigs diets containing extruded corn or wheat did not affect ADG (p>0.15) and ADFI (p>0.15), but it improved feed/gain (p<0.01). Also, feeding pigs diets containing extruded corn or wheat had lower true fecal digestibilities of arginine, histidine, isoleucine, lysine and valine (p<.007) in the pigs. In conclusion, our results suggest that extruding corn and wheat had no benefit on the growth of early-weaned pigs.

Impact of root canal curvature and instrument type on the amount of extruded debris during retreatment

  • Objectives: The aim of the current study was to assess whether the amount of extruded debris differs for straight and severely curved root canals during retreatment using H-files, R-Endo, Reciproc and ProTaper Universal Retreatment (PTU-R) files. Additionally, the area of residual filling material was evaluated. Materials and Methods: Severely curved (n = 104) and straight (n = 104) root canals of maxillary molar teeth were prepared with WaveOne Primary file and obturated with gutta-percha and AH Plus sealer. Root canal filling materials were removed with one of the preparation techniques: group 1: H-file; group 2: R-Endo; group 3: Reciproc; group 4: PTU-R (n = 26). The amount of extruded material and the area of the residual filling material was measured. The data were analyzed with 2-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and 1-way ANOVA at the 0.05 significance level. Results: Except for Reciproc group (p > 0.05), PTU-R, R-Endo, and H-file systems extruded significantly more debris in severely curved canals (p < 0.05). Each file system caused more residual filling material in severely curved canals than in straight ones (p < 0.05). Conclusions: All instruments used in this study caused apical debris extrusion. Root canal curvature had an effect on extruded debris, except for Reciproc system. Clinicians should be aware that the difficult morphology of the severely curved root canals is a factor increasing the amount of extruded debris during the retreatment procedure.

Physicochemical Properties of High Yielding Non-waxy Rice Flours Extruded with Different Moisture Contents (다른 수분함량으로 압출성형한 다수확 멥쌀가루의 이화학적 특성)

  • To improve the textural properties of gluten free rice flour based products, the physicochemical and pasting properties of extruded non-waxy rice flours using extruder were investigated. The high yielding Tongil type rice variety, Hanarum was used. Hanarum rice flour was prepared by dry milling from soaked and dried rice grain. The operation conditions of twin screw extruder were 250 rpm of screw speed, $160^{\circ}C$ of barrel temperature, and 24, 27, and 30% of moisture content. Hanarum extruded rice flour (HERF) were lower in crude lipid and ash contents, but higher in crude protein than Hanarum rice flour (HRF). The color values of HERF showed significantly different (p<0.05) with different moisture contents. Water binding capacities, apparent amylose contents, and damaged starch of HERF were higher than those of HRF. Moisture contents affected water binding capacities of HERF. Solubility increased with increasing heating temperature and solubilities of HERF differed significantly (p<0.05). X-ray crystallinity was changed after extrusion cooking and that of HERF showed sharp peaks at $2{\theta}=18-20^{\circ}$. The pasting viscosities of HERF kept lower values (~ 10 RVU) constantly.

Perfonnance Evaluation of Swaged- and Extruded-type Heat Sinks Used in Inverter for Solar Power Generation (태양광 발전용 인버터 방열에 사용되는 압입형 및 압출형 히트싱크의 방열 성능 평가)

  • In this study, we evaluated the heat release performance of two extruded-type and two swaged-type heat sinks used in an inverter for solar power generation. The number of fins and heat transfer areas of the two swaged-type heat sinks, namely S-62 and S-98, are 62 and 98 and $2.8m^2$ and $5.3m^2$, respectively. Those for the two extruded-type heat sinks, namely, E-38 and E-47, are 38 and 47 and $1.8m^2$ and $1.9m^2$, respectively. The heat release fractions of S-62 and S-98 were measured as 82.7 % and 86.3 %, respectively. Those of E-38 and E47 were measured to be 79.6 % and 81.6 %, respectively. In this experiment, despite the mass flow rates of air entering the heat sinks being almost the same, the heat release fractions increased with heat transfer area. Furthermore, despite S-62's heat transfer area being 47.4 % higher than that of E-47, its heat release fraction was higher by only 1.3 %. We believe that this indicates the better heat transfer property of the extruded-type heat sink. S-98's heat release is only 4.4 % higher than that of S-62, but its heat transfer area is 89.3 % higher; this suggests that its heat transfer area need to be optimized.

A study on the heat treatment processing of 7050 aluminum alloy (7050Al 합금의 열처리공정 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The aero-industry is union industry which includes a research development type, a knowledge accumulation type and a developed country type. The aero-industry of Korea is in semi-developed type stage but departed later than that of other country such as Taiwan, Indonesia etc. Therefore, the necessity of domestic airplane material is required. This study on 7050Al extruded alloy aims to suggest an adequate heat treatment conditions of T73, T74 and T76. The results of this study show that; 1. The optimum conditions of T7x heat treatment in extruded 7050Al alloy show this; $$T73:121^{\circ}C{\times}7hr+177^{\circ}C{\times}14hr$$. $$T74:121^{\circ}C{\times}7hr+177^{\circ}C{\times}10hr$$. $$T76:121^{\circ}C{\times}7hr+163^{\circ}C{\times}21hr$$. 2. The 2nd step aging heat treatment such as T73, T74 and T76 etc. is efective in 7050Al alloy but the variation otf microstructure and mechanical property with dispersive inclusions produced for extrusion process causes some troubles. Accordingly, in order to produce a good 7050Al alloy, a careful attention is needed in manufacturing process.

A Study on The Perceived Breast Shapes of Adult Women according to the Age (성인여성의 연령에 따른 유방형태 인식에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide for the basic data useful to the development of a quality brassiere featuring a good wearing feeling and an effect of reinstating and correcting breast shape. For this purpose, 220 adult women aged between 20 and 59 were sampled to survey their perceived and actual breast shapes. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; 1. Most adult women correctly perceive the changes of their breast shapes as they become older. However, the younger women tend to evaluate their breast as larger than their actual sizes, being more dissatisfied with their breast shapes than older women, while wanting their constitution to be more high and slim. In short, there is a little difference between their perceived and actual breast shapes. 2. The breast shape perceived most by the adult women is "droopy type I"(37.7%), followed by "conical type"(21.8%), "flat type"(16.8%), "semi-circular"(10.8%), "droopy type II"(8.6%) and "extruded type"(5.0%) in their order. The younger women tend to perceive their breasts as "flat", "conical" or "semi-circular", while the older women tend to perceive their breasts as "droopy". 3. According to the increase of age, the items of height were decreased and items of width, depth, circumference and length were increased, being obser and breast point were drooped. so volume and bottom area of breast of 40ㆍ50's women's age group were larger than 20?30's women's age group and breast point width of 40ㆍ50's women was being wider by increase of interior dimensions of breast.

Growth of Juvenile Sea Cucumber Apostichopus japonicus Fed Different Formulated Diets with Different Feed Types (Powder, Crumble and Pellet) (배합사료 조성비와 제조 형태(Powder, Crumble 및 Pellet)에 따른 해삼(Apostichopus japonicus)의 성장)

  • An experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of feeding by different feed types (powder, crumble and pellet) of two different feed formulations with simple dried (D) or extruded (E) conditions on growth and body composition of juvenile sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus. Triplicate groups of sea cucumber averaging $1.2{\pm}0.05g$ were fed each of the D1, D2, EP1 or EP2 diets for 12 weeks. Survival of sea cucumber fed D2-crumble was higher than that fed EP2-crumble diet (P<0.05). Weight gain of sea cucumber fed EP1-powder was higher than that fed EP1-crumble and EP2-crumble diets (P<0.05). These findings indicated that simple dried feed could use independently feed type for sea cucumber culture and powder type of extruded feed is also good for sea cucumber culture.
